- internetcoward, on 06/12/2008, -7/+310Little kids tend to ruin xbox live. I play tf2 all the time and all I hear is I CAN HAZ CHEESEBURGER or people using the n word or calling people *****. This usually leaves me to play with no headset or to just play on a team with friends only. I just wish there was just a button you can use to shock those kids in real life. Oh and british kids, please stop rapping over live... actually that goes to everyone.
- Zarokima, on 06/13/2008, -5/+204Yeah, I've only heard that particular phrase used once, towards the end of his prepubescent tirade of *****.
"My mom's dead, so thank you for admitting to being a necrophiliac."
"What ***** is a necrophiliac you ***** retard?"
"It's someone who has sex with dead people, which you just said you do."
"EEEEWWWWW! MOM! MOM! SOME GUY JUST SAID I HAVE SEX WITH DEAD PEOPLE!"
She got on the mic and started chewing us out for using such language around her 8-year-old. We explained what had been going on and she, as expected, believed her sweet little angel when he said we were out to get him. Some other guy had been recording the whole thing (not sure why, didn't care to ask at the time) and plugged in his mic to let Mother Dearest hear her little boy. From the sound of things he got the most savage beating of his life, and the rest of us couldn't have been happier. - Braingoo, on 06/12/2008, -4/+150Finally somebody has to stand up to the squeakers.
- WhereAmI, on 06/12/2008, -24/+14050$ a year to play with idiots.
- pitchblack16, on 06/12/2008, -4/+118i know exactly what your talking about, a 10 yr old kid saying stuff like i just f***d your mom, completely rediculous
- vondrak, on 06/13/2008, -3/+116Unless they happen to have just f****d your mom, then it's completely justified.
- Falldog, on 06/12/2008, -8/+112They're not bigots, just people who who are too lame to come up with any reasonable insult. Unfortunately it also falls from John Gabriel's Greater Internet ***** Theory. See http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/03/19/
- ExRe, on 06/13/2008, -4/+102Xbox Live team, PLEASE add the option to mute EVERYBODY except those in the friends list.
This is probably the number one reason why I hate Xbox Live. Employ more moderators for games (especially Halo 3) and just ban the kids who constantly swear, TK, etc. Maybe then we can at least get rid of some of the idiots, or, if nothing else, you'll make a load of money if they want to setup a new XBL account after they are banned each time. - l3itchplease, on 06/13/2008, -2/+99microphone + anonymity = douchebag
- Klowner, on 06/13/2008, -4/+77People I hate on xbox live
* idiot that doesn't talk, but thinks we want to hear his distorted rap playing in the background on his stereo
* Kids that spew foul language (typically not within context) because their mom isn't around
* Dudes mumbling into their cellphone, thinking we want to hear him mumble nonsense to his girlfriend
The trash talkers that are obviously just having fun don't bother me, as long as they're being over-the-top or putting some effort into coming up with words besides n****r and f**k. - popltree2, on 06/13/2008, -7/+78Adam Sessler FTW. Get him onto a real network!
- Beatlemaniac, on 06/13/2008, -10/+81Dugg for Sessler. Don't be hatin'!
PS there is no excuse for being a racist, end of. Even if no one knows who you are in real life, you're still a tool. - TrevorBelmont, on 06/13/2008, -5/+74I find it sort of funny that when you mean "*****" you say "the N word" but when you mean "*****" you say "*****". I also find it funny that I will likely be buried for not doing the same.
I'm not trying to attack you personally, Internetcoward. I just feel like we're a culture running around with it's head cut off nowadays. Vilifying words; trying to stuff them down the memory hole. I would love to see us all grow beyond our prejudices and biases of other cultures and ethnicities. I just don't think that making people afraid to say a word, even when they are just trying to clarify which word it is that they deem offensive, is the right way to encourage meaningful change. - Varz, on 06/12/2008, -3/+69I don't play consoles games online but it seems that there is no system for moderation. You should be able to elect moderators for servers who can ban people for saying BS, if everyone starts getting banned for making those sorts of comments then it'll stop pretty quick.
I know PC games don't have the problem because each server has its own set of rules and there are often moderators playing or spectating who will ban anyone who starts being an *****. You can also record demos of people being morons and send their ID to the server host and they'll usually get at least a temporary ban. - xBBx, on 06/12/2008, -3/+67I have to agree with you on the subject of wanna-be rappers. I don't understand their logic for rapping or singing online for that matter. It's not like there are any record execs looking for new talent while they're playing online. So I could only come to a conclusion they're doing it solely to annoying the F out of people. Can they really not think of any other way to annoy people online than rapping/singing? How about the ole 99 beers on the wall song. Or just talking about their stupid days. Or how everyone sucks at their school.
Ahh...I'm rambling. Basically, rappers/singers, you all suck. - sparrowkc, on 06/13/2008, -2/+60Things like that need to happen.
- dragonstar08, on 06/13/2008, -3/+49I think he speaks for every gamer, well the sane ones anyway. The other night a friend and me were playing a big team deathmatch on Halo 3 and just because my friend got on the Warthog gun first, this dude threw a damn fit cursing out every swear word you can think of just because he wanted to use it. The mic is perfect to communicate with your team, but when you get a stupid ass guy or dumb kid on your team calling everyone ***** and crying just because he sucks, it just ruins the whole experience for all the ones who get on for a good game of Halo or any other game.
- thestranger, on 06/13/2008, -5/+48Yes, they are bigots. If a person is calling someone a fag/***** or ***** as insult, then they must believe that calling someone gay or black makes them less of a person or man (hence it being an insult)...or whatever. I am sorry saying that its "just an insult" not a bigoted statement simply isn't true.
- moocow1452, on 06/13/2008, -5/+46Dugg for epic Justice!
- TheDefiant, on 06/13/2008, -0/+39If you're going to insult me over Xbox Live, please do it intelligently and creatively. At least then I'll get a kick out of it.
- allthosemoments, on 06/13/2008, -0/+32That happened to me once, it was pretty embarrassing.
- drakethegreat, on 06/13/2008, -2/+34Play TF2 on the computer, its usually not full of these people because admins simply ban them if they are around.
- josephb, on 06/13/2008, -0/+31You can do this by pressing the guide button, clicking your icon, edit profile, privacy settings, voice and text, friends only. Not very easy to find for everyone, It took me a while to figure this out. Never went back since.
- Scaryclouds, on 06/13/2008, -2/+33I remember in RTCW a guy, I believe his name was "Jews in A oven" was, surprisingly, being an *****. Well in this match TK was turned off, and of course, being the ***** this guy was, he only used a rocket launcher. In RTCW rocket launchers have a brief charge (spin up) time, I realize he was about to fire, jumped in front of him and watch him gib himself. Oh that was so sweet! He was so pissed, kept on following me around trying to shoot me, ok course TK was on so it was just annoying...
- dasdef, on 06/13/2008, -12/+42tf2 on xbox 360? ewwwwwwwwwwww.
- overkilpro, on 06/13/2008, -0/+28by looking at your comment it seems that you are right
- Snuff99, on 06/12/2008, -10/+37Other than being a cheap bastard, this is a top reason I see no point in paying for online gaming. Mainly just a cheap bastard tho'.
- TheWorm, on 06/13/2008, -0/+27I don't buy it. Usually those little ***** don't stop talking long enough for anyone else to say anything.
- TinternAbbot, on 06/13/2008, -3/+27I'm just glad that there's no talk feature for Mario Kart Wii online. I would probably be thrown off because of all the obscenities i shout playing that game.
- Yage2006, on 06/13/2008, -5/+29Very well said Adam.
/Dugg - FFXIfrohike, on 06/13/2008, -4/+28Or you can pay $180 a year to play with massively multi-idiots...
- FFXIfrohike, on 06/13/2008, -2/+24Pics or it didn't happen.
- logicalnoise, on 06/12/2008, -0/+22there is a system in place for moderatikng but no one uses it(except me I guess).
- dicknuts, on 06/13/2008, -3/+25Yes, ***** YOU G4 for ruining my TechTV. ***** you in your kiddie-pandering, money-grubbing ass...
- theaceoffire, on 06/13/2008, -7/+28Dear WaxenPith:
You are a sad underage person who thinks he/she is a gamer because you can press a button on a popular video game faster than someone else.
^_^ See, no reason to use bad language to describe what an annoying, stupid, and generally unpleasing person you are. - inactive, on 06/13/2008, -0/+21He's ***** brilliant. I love when Adam gets serious and talks intelligently about real issues. There is this crazy expectation that the people on Xbox live are *****, and it's true. Earlier today I was listening in as my brother was playing to a couple of guys talking about having sex with another person in the game after it became apparent she was a pre-teen female. Not cool people.
- debuggercll, on 06/13/2008, -15/+35If you're paying $50 to play with idiots, it's okay because you're an idiot too.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 06/13/2008, -4/+24Nice sales pitch, but I think WhereAmI was referring to the realities of that concept.
- diblasio, on 06/13/2008, -2/+22It should work just like digg. Everyone can get dugg up or down and they will partner with someone who ranks like 50 points either way (with everyone starting out at 100 and a cap set at 150 or 200). That way, if I'm pretty inoffensive I'll stay at 100 , and won't have to put up with little kids at -43. If they behave, though, they can always be modded up.
Or would that result in less matches and make things too complicated? :( - moocow1452, on 06/13/2008, -9/+28That is brilliant, play with an external mic hooked up to an iPod endlessly rickrolling anybody on the server!
- sup34dog, on 06/13/2008, -2/+20since when is an 8-year-old a toddler?
...plus, your comment blows. - jrmyjms, on 06/13/2008, -5/+23Amen Adam.
- inactive, on 06/13/2008, -2/+19Die. Just die.
- bbqsalad, on 06/13/2008, -1/+17No, He is right. You're stupid.
- Jadinlee, on 06/13/2008, -3/+19Yes, this is a real problem and the reason I've stopped playing online with my 360. I realize MS can't control everyone's behavior but at least give us the tools to filter out the scum (on a large scale, not just personal filters). Seriously, use the reputation scale to allow players to filter out people with low scores. Build the system so it isolates and cripples the play of people who do this stuff. People like you... you get full access to multiplayer. People despise you and you get blocked from public multiplayer. None, and I mean NONE of my gaming friends play on Xbox Live specifically because they find the experience disgusting. That's sad. But I guess to MS... $ is $ regardless of who it comes from.
- theaceoffire, on 06/13/2008, -5/+21Ignoring your spelling mistakes (Please use firefox, the built in spell checker rocks), I would like to point out two things.
1. $50 to play the multiplayer for a $60 game (you already own) on internet (that you already pay for) is silly, especially since you are paying for the right to host the multiplayer on your console (Which you also own).
2. PS3 gives you a browser, lets you use any hard drive to upgrade your storage, lets you use external hard drives, and gives you free multiplayer. I do not consider any of that "mediocre".
Our personal issues aside, I agree that the children on Xbox live and on PSN (and for that matter, on the PC) need to treat each other better.
If I win or lose, I will never call people offensive things. I may dance for an hour screaming "I rock", which will be very annoying, but I feel that is fine. - Zarokima, on 06/13/2008, -5/+21HE is the one who said he just ***** a dead person (my mom). He just didn't know the word for people who do that ;-)
- geodebug, on 06/13/2008, -3/+18Getting worse? Eh, I don't know. I've been playing xbox live for over five years and it comes in waves. Usually the idiot parade comes in early when a game is first released. Halo 3 right now is kind of nice because the buzz is off and the majority of the players are there to play, not just be a holes.
Xbox live has plenty of tools for reporting offensive language/names, cheating, etc. You are jumping online with a pool of 100,000 guys (mostly between 10-30). Of course a large chunk are going to be a drag - just like real life. - TheDefiant, on 06/13/2008, -15/+30NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP!
- diblasio, on 06/13/2008, -3/+18Your buddy is a loser and so are you by proxy.
