- PixelD, on 10/28/2007, -0/+39He has the HD-DVD drive, hence the split icon.
- popltree2, on 10/29/2007, -0/+26Wow. A reply to an honest question where the answerer actually provided an answer and wasn't an ass! I think this is a Digg first! Congrats, Nigmotron. We need more like you around here!
- grimeygutter, on 10/27/2007, -0/+20Slightly off topic but Microsoft has been beta testing an IPTV service through Media Center Extender for awhile now.
The first 3 seasons of Arrested Development are on there and anybody running a 360 as a media center extender should have internet tv beta as an option.
It is free so far but has 30 second or so Microsoft ads every once and awhile. - chaosdude78, on 10/27/2007, -0/+16http://www.microsoftmediaroom.com/#/games/
- fatadamblog, on 10/28/2007, -6/+20Why does the Disc drive icon look like a pokeball?
- chaosdude78, on 10/27/2007, -0/+14Major Nelson stated a few months back in his podcast that it would be in the fall update and also explained how it would work. There are companies that operate like cable companies to transmit the television, except over the internet instead of standard cable. You would have to subscribe to one of those services, just like you would comcast or time warner, and use the 360 as a set top box.
- xdeliriumx, on 10/29/2007, -0/+14Hopefully this is part of the fall update as well as the rumored XviD/DivX support.
Here is a list of things that were also rumored. Not sure if this was for before the mini-update that happened with the dashboard update earlier this fall.

- Saiing, on 10/28/2007, -0/+14>everyone can look forward to IPTV being part of the Fall update.
Why do I get the feeling that's going to be "everyone in the United States"? Downloadable movies and other content are still pretty lame in most other parts of the world. I doubt this'll be any better? - endlessoul, on 10/27/2007, -0/+13Actually, it's not a rumor.
http://www.microsoftmediaroom.com/#/games/ - kicksave, on 10/27/2007, -3/+14After looking at the pics and checking out the link I think 2 things.
1. IPTV was mentioned in the past and there was a video about it's future on the XBOX 360. So Rumor Is Probably True (Though Timing - Fall Update - May Be Off)
2. There is no way Microsoft is giving us this service for FREE with the XBOX LIVE service. There will be an additional fee we will have to pay monthly or yearly for this additional service to the XBOX LIVE experience. My Guess ... $9.99 a month. - kinseyincanada, on 10/28/2007, -3/+14Can someone explain IPTV to me? whats the differecne between it and PVR?
- Zero2aHero, on 10/28/2007, -0/+10To add onto what nigmo said... you would still have to subscribe to an IPTV service (I believe AT&T will be one of them), and then you would use your Xbox 360 as your cable box. So your 360 will act as a cable box and a DVR, and it has all of the standard xbox live functionality built into the box while you are watching tv.
- DarkCovers, on 10/27/2007, -0/+8I agree, Microsoft should be more like other companies and give everything away for free and make zero profit from it.
- grimeygutter, on 10/27/2007, -0/+5Sorry if I got anybodys hopes up but I had no idea it was regional beta.
- estvir, on 10/27/2007, -1/+6Like Apple, did you see the latest reports? They made like no money and obviously don't care about it, they're just doing it for the good of mankind, God bless Steve Jobs, and only care for your freedom, etc.
I mean, have you seen how open their products are?! - trunkster, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5Is there 1680 x 1050 support?
- popltree2, on 10/27/2007, -0/+5IPTV can POTENTIALLY be a replacement to cable. It is a matter of licensing the content from the networks, I believe. As for payment, there will undoubtedly be a fee unless it comes as part of the XBox Live subscription. Or they may introduce different tiers of XBox Live based around channels. No telling at this point really.
- estvir, on 10/27/2007, -0/+4It's a shame it's not available in Australia as who doesn't love free things and Arrested Development?
- estvir, on 10/27/2007, -1/+5They're not exactly trying to keep any secret, MediaRoom, etc, have been known publicly for awhile..
- LimeParrot, on 10/27/2007, -0/+4Yep. I got $10 Australia gets ripped off again!
- inactive, on 10/27/2007, -4/+8Microsoft fails at keeping secrets.
- chugger1992, on 10/27/2007, -0/+3INTERNET Protocol
- estvir, on 10/27/2007, -0/+3If I was you I'd lock my doors and windows tonight.
:| - Izacus, on 10/28/2007, -1/+4Sigh... US gets IPTV and we can't even download some of the damn demos. Gah.
- fraggle35, on 10/27/2007, -0/+3If it's anything like IPTV in the UK it will be an on demand service, you pay to rent the show for 24hrs and then it deletes itself. Must have at least 2meg Broadband.
- FutureGuy, on 10/27/2007, -1/+4Well that IPTV is coming to XBox is not a rumor
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0GijX9SSjU
if its coming this fall, ohh well lets see. - grimeygutter, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2The other night I watched a long Gomez concert in pretty decent quality but after trying to navigate back and watch a few music videos but they would never start to stream. The movie trailers I watched later were of higher quality than most things I've seen yet on the service. When things worked properly it would start to stream within 5-7 seconds tops.
Its kinda hit or miss sometimes and any type of file sharing while trying to use it gives me constant interruption(expected with my connection speed though) - TomHellier, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2Don't you understand DarkCovers, because they Bill Gates is the richest man on the earth, and windows is the most popular (but least defended OS), everything must be given away for free because Bill Gates is the worst man on the face of the earth, despite his massive humanitarian and philanthropic deeds.
Can't people just shut up about how all Microsoft want is your money, and start realising that all companies want your money. {Linux doesn't count.} - surilamin, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2God I miss Arrested Development. How could they cancel the show!!!!!
- jrbrewin, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2on snap! i thought sony was gonna do iptv first?
wakka wakka! :D - xdeliriumx, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2You are absolutely correct. It was very slow for me. Anyone else have the problem?
- TehEnergy, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2This would make sense. I mean, look at the Microsoft Mediaroom logo on the banner (link below). It seems to have an Xbox 360 controller at the bottom. Maybe this is real.
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/3569/mstvhomebann ... - mrfreeziexp, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2Just a question, am I going to have to pay for IPTV service? Is it an alternative to cable?
- Sornos, on 10/27/2007, -1/+3Remove hard drive, problem solved. Besides the "3 Ring Fairy" isn't as common as you think it is. It's like Ron Paul supporters, if you believe that the loudest group is the most numerous group, Ron Paul will be POTUS. But we all know that's not going to happen.
- estvir, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2I'll see your wager and raise you $500, that's AUD by the way.
- Quicksilver4648, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2Please be true! I want IPTV NOW!
- nape, on 10/27/2007, -1/+2anyone know when this update is expected to happen?!?!
- xXdredgXx, on 10/28/2007, -3/+4who watches cable television? all i need is internet and pirate bay. I save so much money not having to pay a cable bill
- popltree2, on 10/27/2007, -0/+1Oh yeah, well I work for NASA. Why should you believe me? Because I say I do, even without providing any kind of evidence to support it.
Save the Microsoft bashing for the Apple section. And if you are going to come at us with the "I work for Microsoft" bit, at least give us a reason to believe you. - marnaq, on 10/27/2007, -0/+1Make me think of that Jimmy Kimmel sketch.
"Manage your #ยค%& settings."
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Qc6w4SzIUN0 - endlessoul, on 10/27/2007, -0/+1For text messages, as far as I know, the Chatpad automatically pulls up your texts, like achievements, without having to use the guide. (Have never used one, I'm pretty sure this is what happens)
Voice messages? I would have to agree on having to pull up the guide for it. - inactive, on 10/27/2007, -0/+1Yes!) IPTV + Windows Media Center, usuful thing
- DjOverEZ, on 10/27/2007, -0/+1I wish they'd add the ability to instantly hear a voice message or see text a message by pressing guide button when message notification is on screen. This would eliminate having to go into the guide menu while in the middle of a game.
- BedPost, on 10/27/2007, -2/+3Ah, damnit, just read the comment that explained my question. Bury this.
- CollapseControl, on 10/27/2007, -0/+1That is all well and good, but I want to see what the full "Fall Update" will have.
- Christbait, on 10/27/2007, -0/+1Whatever happened to the free flash-style games that were supposed to be coming out for the fall update, where you didn't have to download them, you just played them from the dashboard? Anyone know if that's still happening?
- Christbait, on 10/27/2007, -1/+2Exactly, there are a lot of RRODs but it's not many compared to how popular the 360 is and seeing as 12 Million people own one, it's essentially a minority.
- rtgordon, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1WooHoo! I confirmed with my ISP CenturyTel (provider for smaller areas) and they said that they will support this.
Me: "will you guys be supporting Microsoft IPTV? Please Please Please say yes... (referenced digg/youtube links)"
support@centurytel.net: "Yes."
I am going to see if I can get any information about availability date and cost now. - Error601, on 10/28/2007, -0/+1Uh, dumbass. It's internet protocol with a small i. That references to interconnected networks and not the public Internet. Or did you think no one had networks before the Internet?
