- djSyndrome, on 10/11/2007, -5/+88"All the more reason to buy both versions..."
Because I'm going to play through the exact same 150+ hour game twice just because one system has extra content? Glad you have that kind of time and money on your hands. - PolicePeople, on 10/11/2007, -12/+90This is NOT news. Moore has said it would be 360 exclusive ever since E3 last year. The video game press has the memory of a goldfish.
- pathy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+33Is it just me, or are most of the comments on this article so far ***** stupid?
- HyperJack, on 10/11/2007, -5/+36Ohh . . .damn!
Fanboys will be out in storm now.
Just when i thought things were getting quiet and people were beginning to play on their consoles rather than argue about which one is better.
Oh well. Got my hopes up too early. - crashingechelon, on 10/11/2007, -3/+33@ rileyper
The Download content is 360 exclusive. The PS3 won't have it available on the Playstation Store to download. - McTendo, on 10/11/2007, -10/+34Why the hell would you play both versions? It's not like Pokemon or something where two version are released with different content. It's not two different cities or anything. You find the better one and buy that. If 360 gets more content then why in the world would you buy the PS3 version? (assuming you own both consoles)
I don't even own either system but the PS3 still doesn't have rumble yet, right? So what, then? What do you get out of the PS3 version that the 360 doesn't have to balance out the loss of extra content and rumble? - madoc12349, on 10/11/2007, -27/+47@McTendo
It's got Blu-Ray! It's the future! - chris9902, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20both on the PS3 and 360 I should add ;)
- acdcfanbill, on 10/11/2007, -4/+21I'm a PC gamer and I'm still pissed they sold out to PS2 and I had to wait to get GTA games... This is old hat to me.
- chris9902, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18you can't "patch" DX10 on the 360. do you even understand what it is?
- battlefield1985, on 10/11/2007, -24/+39That downloadable content is the extra Gameplay that could only fit on a BluRay Disc, Remember the article about Rockstar saying that the DVD-Rom wasn't big enough...I'm just sayin. (Hides under flame blanket)
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+17Do you want to back up those mindless figures and speculation with a source or are you one of those jackasses that spools out nonsense in an attempt to impress people?
- chris9902, on 10/11/2007, -6/+20It doesn't say "downloadable content" it says they confirmed "episodic content" is exclusive.
You'll have to download it but it does say "episodic content" meaning the PS3 won't get it on the disk. - adamnikyo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16@ Ajajadude & TechCF

Say it with me; "E-X-C-L-U-S-I-V-E". - tapo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15@norman619:
Xbox 360 can't be 'patched' because DirectX needs those new, fancy, Direct3D 10 calls to be implemented in hardware, calls the 360's GPU doesn't support. The PS3 doesn't even use DirectX, it's OpenGL 2.0 based, so what the hell would it patch?
But all consoles are ridiculously powerful at launch, and then become dwarfed by the PC after a few years. Console gamers (myself included) really don't care, as the $400 console is much cheaper than building your own DX10 capable machine, and offers local, 4 player multiplayer.
The games are also different. I like FPS games on a console because of the rumble, and they're also much better at racing, platformers, and rhythm games (Guitar Hero, DDR) because they're not using a keyboard and mouse. PC has its advantages too, mostly the better aiming in FPS games, and it's better for MMOs and RTS games. - coheedcollapse, on 10/11/2007, -6/+19Considering the fact that this will probably hit 1000 diggs and last week's pretty big news that Sony is launching an official PS3 blog (much like the Major Nelson thing) was buried immediately after it hit the front page shows the mentality of a lot of these commentors. It's pretty much driven by the same biased, misinformed, crowd-hype crap that fueled the hate for the gamecube on digg last console war.
- truspector, on 10/11/2007, -6/+17@thatsmyaibo
Oh really, can you show me where they said that. - donnyburnside, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15My viewpoint exactly. I wish these fanboys would just give it a rest for once and either play their games or just stfu about them.
- jedioniram, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10I dunno, I have no problems with the downloadable content, nor do I feel ripped off of a good multiplayer experience if I don't buy it. Besides, I forget if it was Lost Planet or Gears of War that had map packs up that will be free in a few months, so if you don't want to buy it, just hold off and get them later. I'm sure there will still be people playing (...or not, I mean, that is when Halo 3 shows up).
- E1M1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7GTA started life as a Playstation exclusive? PC gamers would like to have a little word with you there...
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Forget space - the main issue in a completely free roaming game like GTA is getting the data off the disc and into RAM as fast as the player is exploring. You'll probably find that there is a LOT of 'filler' data in games like this simply to push content that is related in game together physically.
- tapo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6You know that Team Fortress 2 and COD4 are coming to consoles...right?
- skinrock, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7For everyone saying "ooh, take that PS3" or "DLC can make or break a game", how many of you actually actively download extra content, enjoy it fully, and think "I definitely would not have bought this game if it wasn't for this little extra content".
Remember when the horse armor came out for Oblivion, everyone was ripping Bethesda apart for having such crappy DLC...and now before we even see what "extra content" Rockstar has in store for the 360, everyone assumes it's going to be mind blowing and will be a major factor in the 360 version outselling the PS3.
I think it's safe to say you can still enjoy the next GTA whether or not you get some extra character skins, vehicles, music or some extra missions. There was no "extra content" for the previous 3 installments on PS2, and it was one of the most popular series ever to hit the system. - K111, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Logic, programming deadlines, their own press releases, reality, etc
- acid0426, on 10/11/2007, -12/+17360 is the most complete package as of now. You have good gameplay with great online play, and the marketplace is done as wel as it could be.
- Abno, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4The 360 does not have a DX10 capable card in it but it still might be capable of some of the DX10 effects.

The relevant text:
"During Take-Two’s quarter-two financial report this past week, the company mentioned that the episodic content will appear on the 360 in early 2008. Although they failed to mention the PS3 whatsoever, some still denounced that the content would eventually show up on Sony’s console. Now, Take-Two has shot down all such remarks in their proclamation of its exclusivity.
“The Grand Theft Auto IV episodic content is exclusive to Xbox 360.”
The Take-Two representative’s statement can’t get any more clear than that."
I have never enjoyed GTA, but this seems like a big deal for 360 owners. Yes, people will pay to play more GTA IV on the 360. This is the biggest 3rd party franchise of the last 10 years. This makes the 360 version the definitive one, unless Rockstar magically announces something for the PS3 version... which it doesn't appear they're going to do. - rcomegys, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6The man has a point. Who said that the DLC is extra chapters in the story, or new vehicles? It could very well be haircuts and tattos, or judging by Microsoft's current Marketplace setup, nothing more than some gamerpics and themes.
- norman619, on 10/11/2007, -9/+13I find it amazing that they feel they have to make it exclusive to the 360 as if peopel will rush out and buy a 360 just for the downloadable content. I love the GTA sreis of games but I find it much more fun playing it on a PC. Sux that I will have to wait at least a year after it's released to consoles to get my hands on it for my PC. But from the looks of it the wait will be well worth it.

except...both of those are coming out on x360 and ps3 as well. - spatulacity, on 10/11/2007, -5/+9I have a multiple DVD PC game in my hand right now, and being it's a fairly well-known franchise (Everquest 2) I'm surprised that you wouldn't be aware of it.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4@bereavement + Norman
Sony is already allowing game companies to implement keyboard/mouse controls in their games and it's been confirmed that UT2007 will be allowing traditional PC gaming controls as an option. I'm sure plenty of FPS games coming out on the PS3 will give the player the freedom to choose between gamepad and Mouse/Keyboard combo. - demonotaku, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Please provide sources for this.
- Bodhesatva, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Mrberns, that has not been announced. As of right now, all downloadable episodic content is specific and exclusive to the 360. I repeat: Rockstar has now repeatedly confirmed that this content is exclusive to the 360.
If you have information that says otherwise, please post it. "I just have a hunch" does not count as valid evidence. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Actually formulathree maybe you should do your research. Bethesda stated in many interviews that they had to duplicate data on the blu-ray discs in order to counteract the slower read times.
http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2007/01/ps3_oblivion_seeing_double_to.php
http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/17/ps3s-blu-ray-drive-speed-could-be-reason-for-oblivion-delay/
"According to comments made by Bethesda's Todd Howard in the latest issue of EGM, the development team is using extra space on the Blu-ray disc to duplicate crucial data and improve load times. "Drive speed matters more to me [than capacity], and Blu-ray is slower," Howard told EGM." - CarzorStelatis, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Yes Blu-Ray has a higher capacity BUT Bethesda said, when making the PS3 version of Oblivion, that they could only use a third or a half (I can't remember which) of the actual capacity. This was because the Blu-Ray format had (they said) a slower access time than DVD, so to load the content in a reasonable time they had to store each piece of content in multiple places on the disc.
I don't see why GTA IV would be any different. Once you start doing that, a 25Gb Bluray disc (I don't think the PS3 uses dual-layer ones, correct me if I'm wrong) suddenly isn't all that much bigger than a DVD9.
Besides that, each console has its advantages and disadvantages. The PS3 has a more powerful processor, but the Xbox 360 has a slightly more powerful graphics chip and is easier to program for. The PS3 has a larger hard drive, but all configurations (not just the 'premium' version) of the Xbox 360 can accept flash drives. Trying to say that one console is 'better' than another is simply impossible. It inevitably involves subjective judgments - such as '360 is better because graphics are the most important' or 'PS3 is better because Blu-Ray makes it more futureproof'. Just pick a console that has the sort of games you want to play, and go play them.
If you remember the infamous 'horse armor' pack for Oblivion, I don't think PS3 users are missing anything anyway. - staticneuron, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"The speed of your drive is always going to be a bottleneck in terms of streaming data off of the disk [Blu-ray Disc is faster than HD-DVD] and the addition of the Hard Disk Drive, matters a lot to us when doing things like Oblivion. We've got a huge world in which we're trying to allow you to gallop from one end to the other on horseback, and we're constantly trying to loads cells in so you never hit a hitch or a pop-up, so this functionality matters most to us."

Your comment would make alot of sense if every PS3 did not ship with a hard drive. It is BS that they need to replicate data (padding) 2 or 3 times in addition to storing data on the hard drive. - Binto, on 10/11/2007, -6/+8It's pretty cool that the 360 gets downloadable content for the game. I hear stuff is gonna be on the cheap, too. I hear that you can buy a new pair of shoes for 1000 points. That's a good deal.
...right? - doshindude, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5haha, ps3 got pwned.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I think you need to research what "Exclusive Content" means.
If Ps3 got the same content as the 360, it would not be exclusive would it? - coheedcollapse, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3@norman619
Nope, it's been confirmed for a bit that UT3 supports keyboard/mouse:
"For those of you hardcore PC purists, mouse and keyboard controls will be available in the PS3 version through the USB ports on the front of the machine."

- taxman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Sorry to burst your bubble, but R* did say that LA noire will come to both the 360 and the PS3 right after they announced this.
- CReyes4182, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4My gears of war lags a lot. Hell I don't think I ever played a lag free gow game. I hardly call that great online.. its ok.
- norman619, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6WHAT?! *my best liljohn impression* :-)
Please tell me you aren't that stupid... Where does it say they will charge Live customers $100 for the GTA downloadable content? I smell either extreme stupiduty, blatant lies, or 100% anti MS/360 induced delusions. It could be all 3. - ninjakoala, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Grand Theft Auto actually started out as an Amiga game, but wasn't completed on the platform. It was later moved to PC and Playstation...
It's such a flirt. - samdu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3154462
- ramshaw, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Very much doubt this to be true , they may get exclusive DLC to each platform but the PS3 version will also have DLC. Don't believe everything you read, remember when Perrin Kaplan said the Wii would be region free? We all know how that turned out.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Bethesda admitted it was due to being unfamiliar with Sony's online store, not technical details
