- SonicBoyster, on 02/17/2009, -1/+5Backlog is back, baby! I can't wait to suffer through this game with all of its participants.
- Po0py, on 02/18/2009, -0/+3They forgot to change the input setting on their mics and ended up recording by their macbook's built in mic instead of the shiny new mics everyone donated money for.
- jinxedbohemian, on 02/19/2009, -1/+4NNNEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRDDDDD RAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEE
- DBeta, on 02/18/2009, -0/+3Sound quality was horrible, but the discussion was good. I'm glad to see that I haven't completely lost some of my favorite podcasts, even if they are having a bit of a reboot.
- TotalHalibut, on 02/18/2009, -1/+4Good lord the sound quality on that sucked. Seriously guys, if you want some tips on how to properly produce your podcast drop us a line. We've done a ton of tutorials and vent seminars on the issue. Turning on a mic, pointing it at a room of people and talking for 30 minutes does not a podcaster make, certainly not the 'best podcasters around'.
- DBeta, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3Yes, this episode's audio sucked, but as already mentioned, there was a mistake and the wrong audio source was recorded. This is a show that is supposed to be organic, you can't just re-record it. I imagine they ran it through some filters and cleaned it up the best they could. Sure, it would have been great if they would have made a little section at the front explaining the poor audio quality, but whatever. It wasn't that bad. We're not "whiteknighting" as you call it, but trying to explain to you that you are a ***** moron who seems to think that a podcast should be perfect on it's third episode.
Leo Laporte has release more than one episode of TWiT with worse audio quality. These things happen. Producers are human. ***** off if you don't like it. - Namco, on 02/18/2009, -0/+3I love the show, but do have one criticism. It's got to be the worst audio quality of any podcast I've ever heard, consistently. I haven't heard the recent episode, but please tell Nick to get closer to that goddam mic.
- doctechnical, on 02/18/2009, -0/+2I had a Call of C'thulhu character that lasted almost six weeks.
Really! - fmello, on 02/18/2009, -0/+2I want to see a backlog episode of Crimson Skies for the Xbox. I read that Smith & Tinker got the rights from Microsoft 2 years ago. Hopefully, they have been working on a sequel for the 360.
- unhap, on 02/18/2009, -0/+2the bury curse is over!
- iconmaster, on 02/18/2009, -0/+2Love Rebel FM, but I gotta agree that the sound quality was atrocious on this one. Not sure I'm going to be able to listen to the whole thing...
- Po0py, on 02/18/2009, -1/+2Cool. I'm skipping this one but hoping Eternal Darkness is next months backlog.
- abrasion, on 02/19/2009, -0/+1Man I can't do this backlog because Call of Cthulu scares the ***** out of me :(
- JudgeMonkey, on 02/19/2009, -0/+1Eh, well better for me I guess. I'm going to check my local game stores and if they have it for 13 bucks because someone didn't want to splurge, I'm gonna grab one.
- DanielNielsen, on 02/19/2009, -0/+1For the people bitching about the sound quality, on the 7th episode of Rebel FM they do apologies for messing up the quality.
- TotalHalibut, on 02/18/2009, -1/+2Don't give a *****. You don't need major funding, you need talent, and you can't buy that. Frigging white-knights, seriously, they'll be apologists for anything. Get their ***** out of your ***** mouth and be objective for once you miserable little dickweasel. ***** grown-ups know how to deal with criticism, children cry about it.
- elitistmusician, on 02/18/2009, -0/+1They didn't switch inputs to their individual mics. Entire show recorded with built-in iSight mic on a MacBook.
- attractivetb, on 02/18/2009, -0/+1I don't love the backlog segments, but I will digg out of support for these guys.
- inactive, on 02/19/2009, -0/+1Was it the d20 version?
Because I have a hard time believing that. - raddevon, on 02/18/2009, -1/+2Has anyone found any deals on this game? I think Gamespot's used price is $13 if you can find it which seems a little high for a last-gen game. (I'm cheap. I know.) The $30 from Direct2Drive is out of the question. There are a couple going for $5 + $5 shipping currently on eBay, but I'm sure they will end up going for more than that. I'd like to find a store I can waltz into and grab the game for about $5.
- Loornadune, on 02/19/2009, -0/+1It sucks headfirst went bankrupt, that game was so good =\
- JudgeMonkey, on 02/19/2009, -0/+1Ah, so it's an intro and bed music that makes a podcast good? Or production quality, or exactly how you speak? It's no different than any other medium for expression. There is crappy art, crappy photography (5 minutes on deviant art will show you lots of both.) crappy "shows", such as stuff on youtube, and well, here we have, like anything else, a medium where there is crappy audio programming.
The good will rise to the top... such as TWiT and diggnation, and the crap will sink, but anything worth listening to has it's audience, regardless as to if you like it or not. I was sorta with you at the beginning. If someone is going to do this all the time, they should make the effort to create a proper flow and sound decent at least, but everyone should have a chance to try whatever they are able to any regard.
Note that the previous post is not directed at this exact podcast, as I have not yet listened, but as a general towards the podcast elitist attitude that is so prevalent in the medium. - TotalHalibut, on 02/18/2009, -1/+2Look, regardless of your dickery, let me be frank here. These guys used to do good shows. They get laid off and their come-back is to produce something like this? No way. There's no excuse for that. They already had the equipment in hand, yet they released this? A show with no intro, no bed-music, no structure, on an internal lap-top mic? Not even an apology at the start for the sound quality?
What does that say to your listeners? It says you don't give a *****. If they want to kill their chances of actually succeeding independently, that's a sure-fire way to do it. I'm sure the inevitable response from fanbois/apologists is going to be along the lines of 'well I'd like to see you do better'. Well, I kinda do, every week, and have for the last 4 years. My concern is that the medium advances for the betterment of this particular new art-form we've got going on here. This ain't helping matters, not one bit. - Namco, on 02/18/2009, -1/+1Awesome! How did this make the front page? I don't care, digging it anyway!
- twignificant, on 02/18/2009, -1/+1Excellent. I was listening to it when I pulled up Digg and saw the post. Dugg for kismet.
- abrasion, on 02/19/2009, -1/+1What's this *****, do you even know who they are? Obviously they didn't have time or money to use the proper equipment, they know exactly what they are doing.
Also, I listened to the ep, the audio isn't THAT bad. - TotalHalibut, on 02/18/2009, -2/+2Just a podcast, see that's the entire problem with this whole thing. Some amateurs sit down in front of a crappy mic, pull a couple of hours of stream of consciousness bullcrap with no regard to mic technique, show structure, post-production or even proper enunciation and release the steaming pile of garbage onto the internet. But it's ok, because it's 'just a podcast'. What is a podcast exactly? Merely a form of delivering content. It is not excused of it's obligation to not suck just because it's a 'podcast'. Does TWIT slack off because it's 'just a podcast'? Does Diggnation? Do you see Leo Laporte making excuses for poor sound quality and bad show structure because he's just 'doing a podcast?'.
No, bollocks they do, because they realize that producing good media is important, and the signal/noise ratio when it comes to online content right now frigging sucks and needs vast improvement. Being an apologist for bad content is worse than creating it in the first place.
Yeah, I take it seriously because online broadcasting's been a semi-pro hobby of mine for the past 11 years, and I'd like to see it evolve past a bunch of guys in-front of a laptop mic ***** in a stumbling, disorganised mess about a video-game. 'Listenable, ain't good enough', especially when the submitter has the balls to claim they're some of the 'best podcasters around'. Not even close, we piss all over these guys and we're not the 'best podcasters around' either. - TotalHalibut, on 02/18/2009, -3/+2And they decided not to rerecord the show.... why?
- NuclearFriend, on 02/18/2009, -2/+1It's listenable so.. jeez. It's just a podcast, seem to be taking it a bit seriously.
- CrimsonFate, on 02/18/2009, -2/+1Listen you ***** douchebag. They're doing it independently. Most if not all of these guys were just laid off from professionally doing it from a mainstream gaming network. They're doing it out of love and don't have major funding. They will improve over time, but until then, go suck the coconut creme off a monkey's big red *****.
- TotalHalibut, on 02/19/2009, -2/+1Yes, I know who they are. Yes, they have the time and money to use proper equipment, they were donated good quality mics, and they all got fired, so they have all the time in the world. You can do a decent podcast on a $50 USB microphone. So no, they evidently don't know what they're doing otherwise they wouldn't have released something recorded on an internal laptop mic. That's not just a newbie mistake, that's plain silliness.
Yes, I know more about podcasting than you do, and they used to as well, I used to listen to the 1up show and it did not suck anywhere near this badly. And don't give me the 'oh they had a studio back then' *****. We manage 10 shows a week out of our host's homes, with different setups, all funded by listener donations and none of them sound even close to that bad. White-knighting them only makes it worse. The audio sucks, this is reality. They'd have had better luck with a ***** dictaphone. The sooner you realize that it's ok to criticize people you like, the more grown-up a world we'll live in. - GohanGVO, on 02/17/2009, -8/+6*downloads immediately*
- anteyekon4myst, on 02/18/2009, -3/+1Why dont they just make a cool HP Lovecraft game and not just steal his cool terminology.
- harrypowers, on 02/17/2009, -7/+1Third.

What is Digg?
