- inactive, on 10/31/2007, -4/+48I'M NOT READY!!
- Nicksname1, on 11/03/2007, -7/+27Your an idiot. Halo 3's popularity is exactly why it gets this huge competition. No body is going to be able to organize an event and get proper sponsorship for something that would draw a crowd and competitors 1/10 the size of what a Halo 3 competition would draw. I admit Unreal is awesome but not nearly as big of a community. But your 2nd point is good whoever wins this better ask for the money immediately.
- chris9902, on 10/31/2007, -2/+12no, plenty of other CS 1.6 players want to watch it.
And while I agree CS is a very good game I don't think it should be used as a model. It's just not very exciting. - nico623, on 10/30/2007, -1/+10Now we all have an excuse for quitting or jobs, moving back into our parents basement, and playing video games months on end.
Hooray :D ! - Frostman3D, on 10/31/2007, -1/+10As often as I have my ass beat down by those bastards that snipe from the hip in mid jump, no... I'm just not ready.
- DiggzDE, on 11/02/2007, -0/+8How can I ever finish the fight if they keep having competitions?!
- gimlik, on 10/31/2007, -0/+7I don't think my wife would understand if I quit my job and told her it was to train for a Halo competition...
- dolemite5005, on 11/03/2007, -0/+7Costs $500 to register! Thanks but no thanks.
- nopointinnames, on 10/30/2007, -0/+6Each person pays to get in and sponsorship deals would be my best guess. And the way Microsoft promotes, I'm sure they might have thrown in a nice bribe to make Halo the 1 million dollar game.
- gglynn07, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5So...is there a prize for the most times killed in a round...Cause if so, I'll win that one hands down;)
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -1/+6I wish MLG.pro would get on the Halo 3 ball and start their own tournaments. If the MLG pros aren't in this tourney, then I don't think I'm ready for it...
- thesheqq, on 10/31/2007, -0/+4Wow, now instead of just taking up most my time it will take up all my time. Anybody have any idea how many people are expected?
- awok, on 10/30/2007, -1/+5As an avid Quake 3 player I am obligated to respond.
Games like CS 1.6 (which all the pro's from back in the day still play), and Quake 3 CPMA are great games in their own right, and not so much CS but Quake 3, they are games for gamers.. if you know what I mean. They are just not spectator friendly to anymore than a specific niche of players.
Games like Halo 3 have done amazing things for E-Gaming and sponsors will pile in money like they are now so some lucky kid can win a prize fund of $250'000 cash.
And just to make it clear, it takes as much skill to be good, and I mean really good at Halo 3 using a joypad as it does playing CS with a mouse+kb.
Just different.. - diggless, on 10/31/2007, -0/+3perhaps if the article would load that would be possible.
- LaueOfficer, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3So..... expect hell on this server at Noon, Central.
- gibsonic, on 10/31/2007, -2/+5our country is doomed.
- jnv123, on 11/02/2007, -1/+4MLG pros will likely attend and win this tournament. Some pros I've talked to don't like attending some of the other tournaments though, Nistic told me he still hasn't gotten paid from a tournament last year.
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -1/+4Yeah, cause there is any difference from Halo 2 to Halo 3, graphics aside..
- dvide, on 10/31/2007, -0/+3The prize breakdown is given in the article. $250,000 for first place. But even 64th place gets $2,500. The CPL also held a $1mil painkiller 1v1 tournament. The top two players Vo0 and Fatal1ty both won around $250,000 by the end of the year.
- falkonv7l, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3its still early, I would rather make a typo on digg than here at work.
- scabbers, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2Exactly!
- xvertigox, on 10/30/2007, -3/+5Wow, Halo 3? What the hell is Angel thinking?
- sup34dog, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2you expect to rank?
- DiggzDE, on 11/02/2007, -0/+2The cash prize distribution for the $1,000,000 “Halo 3? Xbox 360 competition is:
$250,000.00 - 1
$170,000.00 - 2
$100,000.00 - 3
$75,000.00 - 4
$50,000.00 - 5
$40,000.00 - 6
$30,000.00 - 7
$25,000.00 - 8
$15,000.00 - 9 thru 12
$10,000.00 - 13 thru 16
$5,000.00 - 17 thru 32
$2,500.00 - 33 thru 64 - XtremeBain, on 10/30/2007, -1/+2First prize is $250,000. The CPL still owes gamers prize money dating back a few years though.
- CollapseControl, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1I never said it takes no skill and would be a walk in the park, but anyone can do good given the right situation (spawn)
- jun2san, on 10/30/2007, -1/+2It sucks that the top halo teams are contracted with MLG which means they can only play in MLG tournaments. I hope that MLG will allow them to at least play in this one tournament and take CPL's money.
- Wohmfg, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1Woooohh, hang on a sec. The MLG Halo 2 season is over, Final Boss won the last national championship. Final Boss lost LAST YEAR to Carbon in the national championship. Everyone knows that MLG will pick up Halo 3 for the 08 season, and yes they will be practising, the only reason they won't turn up to other tournaments is because some of them have MLG-only contracts.
- orithidon, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1I'm going.
- SkyRider119, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1If your not ready come get warmed up at TXGamers event in the DFW area also .. http://www.txgamers.net
- BlackJackJester, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1and yet people get paid hundreds of millions to play other games with arbitrary rules in hundred million dollar stadiums all around the world. Yea, Texas is so stupid for having any sort of competition. Die in a fire.
- austin63, on 10/30/2007, -2/+3Wouldnt that just make it the largest prize, not the largest competition?
- BlackJackJester, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1not the ones who can pay the $275-$400+ entry fee they have to hock up
- wilsonthecat, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1Ready for daily Halo 3 spam (advertising) on digg?
- CollapseControl, on 10/31/2007, -1/+2What kind of tourney is it? Free-for-all? 4v4? 1on1? I can't read the article.
If it is a FFA or 1on1 it is pretty pointless. The whole fun of Halo is playing team based games. Anyone can win or do good at a FFA given luck with spawns. - ghosttown80, on 10/30/2007, -2/+3Gammers, huh?
- CPLPress, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1The online registration was launched today. See press release at: http://www.thecpl.com/?p=1873
- gglynn07, on 10/30/2007, -1/+2So you're saying there's a chance!!!!
- Exhaust, on 11/02/2007, -1/+1Nobody can beat the WIZARD!! He knows where all the warp whistles are!
- wiggimt, on 10/31/2007, -1/+1Ok, I lied, I guess it's not teams like last year...but CPL's site is down to confirm
- inactive, on 11/02/2007, -1/+1continuing to play 1.6 with games like UT3 and TF2 on the market is only hurting the gaming community.
Besides, 1.6 isnt being "pushed aside," they are having a a $50,000 tournament for that as well. This is because they realize that it does have the largest competitive gaming audience and they have to appeal to them as well as newer gamers. - wiggimt, on 10/31/2007, -1/+1Over the years, participants and BYOC'ers have always paid 80-100 dollars for their spot. 475 (or 275 for early-birds) for a 4-person team isn't bad.
- jnv123, on 10/30/2007, -1/+1MLG actually pays http://www.mlgpro.com/?q=node/165034&page=9&query= ...
- ByteGuerilla, on 10/30/2007, -1/+1Ah *****. I can't believe you've done this.
- killdashnine, on 10/31/2007, -1/+1It's good to see opportunities, but it's a little troubling. Despite the CPL enabling it, they're deferring to some "new e-sports management company" instead. This "X Factor" company doesn't seem to have an official web page and it's unclear where such money is coming from.
Check their original Google-cached website:

It seems that most of the money is coming from admission, which for gamers is more than a bit steep. - jnv123, on 10/30/2007, -0/+0Some of them can, the million dollar contracts might interfere, but they probably have something in there about being allowed to take another leagues money.
- DiggzDE, on 10/30/2007, -1/+1Yes, I have a chance!
- AlexDenne, on 10/31/2007, -1/+1wrong, very wrong, play Lone wolves at level 45 and then tell me it doesn't require skill mate.
- jnv123, on 10/30/2007, -1/+1It doesn't matter if your right, presentation matters. Your the one who looks like an idiot here, even if you have an opinion which is shared by many top players.
- Seifey, on 10/31/2007, -1/+1Cool.

What is Digg?
