Pretty Sure This Violates the Warranty
kotaku.com — A watercooled Xbox 360. As casemods go, this one looks like someone locked the A-Team in a barn, Murdoch and B.A. improvised with some aquarium tank hose and an aerator, and the gang saved the day. I love it when a plan comes together.

- jggube, on 04/07/2008, -14/+7That water-cooler looks like it's just for show, what kind of hardware mod can you do to require a water cooling unit on your console? I know that old models run really hot (and the more current ones still do - I've owned an older model and a newer model, long story.), but you don't need a $200-300 unit to fix that issue.
- theaceoffire, on 04/07/2008, -8/+6I would pay $200 to never fear RRoD again.
- mattyice11, on 04/07/2008, -5/+8That doesn't make any sense. You can get a free replacement for 3 years and getting it fixed after that is something like $80.
- mywhitenoise, on 04/07/2008, -5/+18I don't know how people deal with shipping back a 360, and waiting weeks for it to come back. After the second time I would have given up, sold the 360 and used the money either to upgrade my computer, or buy a PS3.
- bamafun, on 04/07/2008, -2/+9I can't stand to send stuff back in either, I'd rather pay to have it fixed locally or just get a new one ...... besides that no telling what they will send you back.
- Falldog, on 04/07/2008, -3/+5Because there are plenty of other things to occupy my free time outside of my 360.
- Exact0, on 04/07/2008, -0/+4I got mine back 6 days after sending. My friend got his back in 7 days. I'll agree a console shouldn't brick so quickly....but in my area at least (CT, far away from the factory) the customer service was easy to deal with and I got it back quickly.
My case might be rare though. Just sharing my experience. - Books, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1Ya, if you're a return customer (aka your 360 has broke down more than twice I'd say), they usually just ship out the console without making repairs. I sent mine Wednesday, got it back Thursday. I was quite impressed...but it is my 5th Xbox or something, I don't know - I lost count.
- paradigmx, on 04/08/2008, -1/+0Because the PS3 sucks, my computer has already been upgraded within the past month and I want to play GTA4 when it comes out.
If my 360 rrod'd on my today, I would ship it to MS within 6 hrs.
Besides, nowadays, snail mail isn't nearly as slow as it was 10 years ago, If I can send a letter to the other side of the country in 24-48hrs, then i'd expect a 360 to make it back to me in about a week
- Ajajadude, on 04/07/2008, -0/+1But then you're more than likely going to go several weeks without your expensive console. To some people, the lack of hassle is worth the extra cash.
- mywhitenoise, on 04/07/2008, -5/+18I don't know how people deal with shipping back a 360, and waiting weeks for it to come back. After the second time I would have given up, sold the 360 and used the money either to upgrade my computer, or buy a PS3.
- kingfoot, on 04/07/2008, -1/+2then buy a ps3?
- mattyice11, on 04/07/2008, -5/+8That doesn't make any sense. You can get a free replacement for 3 years and getting it fixed after that is something like $80.
- davidrools, on 04/07/2008, -0/+8It doesn't need to be hardware modded, the xbox 360 from the factory is not adequately cooled. Watercooling will help the normal hardware run more reliably and quietly if they watercooling system is set up correctly...but looking at the pictures (http://www.onansdisciples.com/modules.php?name=For ... it doesn't look like a high quality job. I mean honestly if he expects those crooked screws and twisty ties to hold the waterblocks down he must be kidding himself.
- BruceBogtrotter, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1He didn't pay 200-300 dollars. He said in the forum post that he spent no money. Which is why it's so ghetto.

- YME1280, on 04/07/2008, -9/+2Bill Gates probably just busted a load in his brand new pair of 14k gold underwear...
- mywhitenoise, on 04/07/2008, -1/+13I don't think Bill Gates really gives a ***** about 360. First off, he's retired, Second, his main focus was Windows.
- MarkOfTheDead, on 04/07/2008, -1/+3Third, 14k gold underwear? That's not even real. If I can't find it on Google it doesn't exist.

- smacksaw, on 04/07/2008, -1/+2I think it would be easier to rig up one of those little drink fridges like you see in college dorm rooms. You could just put the 360 in it and put an exhaust hose from the 360 to the exchanger in the fridge. Might burn it out, but you never know.
- LRoy12, on 04/07/2008, -0/+2moisture would kill it.
- smacksaw, on 04/07/2008, -0/+1A fridge is a dehumidifier. Think about putting A/C on in your car when you window is fogged up. Your defroster works better with the A/C on.
- giloron, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1I think the problem comes if you ever open it up. Have to wait a while or the condensation would kill it.

- nightmare1228, on 04/07/2008, -1/+28Who needs a warranty if you have a water cooled 360? It's not like it would ever overheat. Plus the blue light mod kicks ass.

- ATLien74, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1Won't do you any good when your disc drive fails.
- Falldog, on 04/07/2008, -20/+1Water cooling on a 360 is just as retarded as doing it on a PC. Superior airflow > water cooling
- wattersm, on 04/07/2008, -0/+8Actually, no, it's not. Water one of the most efficient heat carriers you can get and you can run pumps a lot quieter than a bunch of fans.
- nomadxx7, on 04/07/2008, -6/+1But water is not good for electronics. To each there own
- BlueSkyfish, on 04/07/2008, -0/+8The water never actually touches the electronics. The heat is transferred through a piece of aluminum or copper.
- nomadxx7, on 04/07/2008, -6/+1But water is not good for electronics. To each there own
- milkmage, on 04/07/2008, -1/+6yeah. that's why there are so many air cooled combustion engines. heat transfers better to denser material. water is more dense than air - therefore you are an idiot.
- Falldog, on 04/07/2008, -1/+5Which is why the industry uses water cooling in all their high availability servers.
- inajeep, on 04/08/2008, -1/+1IBM Z series mainframes use liquid cooling. Your wrong. Admit it.

This is the perfect example.- KingGorilla, on 04/08/2008, -0/+4why? because it looks ugly? is that it? Well screw you! This xbox 360 is going to the prom and is going to win prom queen! Regardless of what the cheerleaders think!
- Yonson, on 04/07/2008, -1/+12It's been done. And far better than this.
People have completely enclosed a functional system within the original case.- ExRe, on 04/07/2008, -4/+2I think the first water cooled 360 pics were released within a week or so of the initial 360 release...

- dasvoldus, on 04/07/2008, -0/+2Is the heat sink held down with twist ties (bread ties)?
- koft, on 04/07/2008, -0/+2It's a cool mod. Sucks that people feel the need to do this though. A properly designed machine obviously wouldn't need this kind of attention. I have an xbox 360 I bought probably 2 years ago, never had a freezing problem. Maybe I'm lucky. Maybe I've had good performance from it because I keep it on top of the surface with nothing blocking the vents.

This water-cooling ***** was cool in 2002, get over it.- homercles337, on 04/07/2008, -1/+1Get over it? If you cant over clock the water cooling "mod" is stupid. It does NOTHING. Are you saying that water cooling was cool in 2002 and its not now? OR that you have no clue what water cooling is meant for and as such relegate it to a bygone era?
- homercles337, on 04/07/2008, -3/+2Im pretty sure you cant even get into the BIOS to over clock an xbox. Watercooling without over clocking is just stupid when air cooling is sufficient. Stupid kids.

- CaviMike, on 04/07/2008, -0/+1I think I'd risk voiding my chance of having to replace my console 7 times in one year and I'm pretty sure every else here would too.
- greatdevourer, on 04/07/2008, -0/+1So old it hurts... The silent passive one with the radiator tanks was more impressive
- DigitAl56K, on 04/07/2008, -1/+1Quote from the forum of the guy who did this:
"I might not be able to post for a while, I beleive im getting my report card on monday. And i didn't do to well."

- heystoopid, on 04/07/2008, -0/+1So when is M$ going to release their official version of a water cooled competition Xbox ?
- loktoris, on 04/08/2008, -1/+2ROFL, you shouldn't have to do this to a gaming console just to keep it from suckploding on you. Whatever happened to the days of the original Nintendo when all you had to do was blow into the game cartridge to make it work again...
- redbootrobinson, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2you forgot the up and down jiggle on the loading tray after loading the game.
- KelTeck, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1Or blowing like a retard on a NES cartridge, but at least they didn't melt down every 12-18 months
