- Xezial, on 07/14/2008, -41/+212I don't like it... Can we keep the one we have now if we want to?
- keithnoir, on 07/14/2008, -6/+163looks like the 360 dashboard had sex with Itunes and raised there baby like a wii....
- geeshock, on 07/14/2008, -1/+145Copying the game to the hard drive is the obvious winner here, our prayers have been answered and my ears thanken ye.
- Nath5000, on 07/14/2008, -23/+137Who else thinks this looks ugly? From what they've shown so far I think it looks tacky, unoriginal, and messes with what already worked well. First of all, I don't want a cartoon character avatar. Second, it looks like a complete rip off of a Nintendo Mii on a backdrop that looks like the PS3 XrossMediaBar mixed together with an AppleTV. Why are they replacing something that was already great when they could have just improved on the original interface?
- TheHal, on 07/14/2008, -27/+121I can't believe how many people dislike this idea. Forget what they look like... honestly. Look at the functionality!!
- dturnbull, on 07/14/2008, -44/+123Seems pretty cool. I was never a big fan of the current dashboard.
- MillionsLivio, on 07/14/2008, -11/+81I called Xbox about the avatars and they confirmed that you will still be able to use gamerpics over the avatars, thankfully.
- billjimbob, on 07/14/2008, -0/+62I may be alone here, but I'm really looking foward to the "primetime" thing that has you playing games like 1vs100 online with other people.... interactive gameshows sound fun. The prizes are just icing on the cake, even if you're odds are one in a million.
- rpeterclark, on 07/14/2008, -3/+63Apparently you can in some manner, FTA: "For everyone who loves the blades interface, it’s not going away; they are now built directly in to the new Xbox guide."
- estvir, on 07/14/2008, -0/+53Here's an image of what the in-game "Blades" look like:

Looks good, can't wait for the update. - samadam, on 07/14/2008, -2/+52yay finally 1680x1050!
- LimeParrot, on 07/14/2008, -5/+53I'm not a big fan of the avatars, but holy crap... what awesome new features! Here's a question though. If you can use the web to select something to download from the marketplace, so you can watch it "when you get home from work", does that mean the xbox can turn on by itself and start downloading? I doubt it...
- gmprunner, on 07/14/2008, -8/+54Wow, you're a jerk.
- mohsenxp, on 07/14/2008, -0/+41"Welcome to the new xbox experience!"
*awkward silence*......*forced applause*.
haha that was brilliant. - Frazzlet, on 07/14/2008, -1/+41I'm all for new functionality, but how it is presented is also important.
- dturnbull, on 07/14/2008, -6/+44Computing as we know it?
- jjb123, on 07/14/2008, -0/+33Thank god for group chats finally!
- truspector, on 07/14/2008, -2/+34Are you serious? You're really saying this right after Sony releases "Trophies" and "In game XMB"? I'm going to laugh my ass off when MS implements Home BEFORE Sony.
- FutureGuy, on 07/14/2008, -7/+38No you can't but its not all that bad, and I am pretty sure I will like it once I get used to it. Below is a vid of it in action.

The current blade design doesn't scale well, one can only add so many blades.
The XBLP (P for party) and Primetime are pretty nice concepts thought not entirely original (Primetime might be) it seems pretty well executed. - cesclaveria, on 07/14/2008, -2/+31I'm pretty sure no one is going to miss you.
- MillionsLivio, on 07/14/2008, -0/+28They revolutionized online console gaming? While I'm not ecstatic about the changes, how many things has Sony copied from Xbox Live for PSN? It's not "ripping off", that's just how the industry competes and evolves.
- Apeezee, on 07/14/2008, -2/+29I really don't like the fact that they are cartoon'ing up the 360. BUT, on the other hand, it sounds like it has a carefully-shrouded type of clan support. Such that you can have parties that start in the dashboard and travel through games and other activities. Hopefully there are more features like this, including having separate friends list, category-like. :)
- MillionsLivio, on 07/15/2008, -2/+26I was actually calling about my repair (I got the red rings again) and figured I would ask while I was talking to the guy. Don't need to be a jackass about it.
- hepj, on 07/14/2008, -4/+26I actually like this new interface much better. It cleans up the mess that was the dashboard. They had started to add too many blades to the interface at it was cutting down on usable space.
Here they seem to have gone back to a simple, uncluttered design that reminds me more of the Zune interface than anything else. I'm happy that Microsoft is taking the time to reorganize the aging blade interface. - dalectrics, on 07/14/2008, -1/+2216:10 FTW
- billjimbob, on 07/14/2008, -34/+52You actually called Microsoft about it....? Seriously, you care that much about using a gamerpic instead of an avatar? No wonder customer service people are *****, they have to deal with people like you. Besides, you really think the person you talked to knew what he was talking about?
- BobsYourUncle, on 07/14/2008, -3/+21I won't use any of the new features until the HDD price comes down. ~$230CDN for 120GB is too ridiculous to even consider.
- ByteGuerilla, on 07/15/2008, -1/+18I'd rather someone like MillionsLivio called up just asking for information than someone like billjimbob called up to be a jerk and pass his holy judgement upon people based on their usage of customer service.
Customer service does not exist entirely to process people's Red Ring of Death returns. - MillionsLivio, on 07/14/2008, -3/+20I called Xbox about the avatars and they confirmed that you will still be able to use gamerpics over the avatars, thankfully.
- sugarazor, on 07/14/2008, -2/+19Heaven?
- Krumm, on 07/14/2008, -0/+16It stops the 'click, click' "The disc is dirty, so I've lost all your progress from the last save", so I'm more than happy!
I can start playing rentals again... - Frazzlet, on 07/14/2008, -0/+16Microsoft owns the rights to the halo brand.
- ProfChaosOmega, on 07/15/2008, -4/+20I agree. I personally think the new design is far less appealing aesthetically. As for these "avatars"...I hate them on the wii, I hate them even more on the 360. If it's possible, Im going to avoid the dashboard update all together.
- inactive, on 07/14/2008, -0/+16Personally I'm extremely pumped about this: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/events/e32008/ ...
Being able to stream the Netflix watch instantly movies and see them on my TV (rather than getting that Media Center hack to work which never did for me) is awesome! - Typhoon2009, on 07/14/2008, -4/+19why did i sell my 360?
- Voide, on 07/15/2008, -1/+15Your medications waiting for you in the cabinet, whenever you feel like taking it.
- samadam, on 07/14/2008, -0/+13Wait, that makes a huge amount of sense to me! It's just like on a PC, except with better control. I am not sure which part of that you are not getting. Faster loading? No disk noise? Yes please.
- mrn111, on 07/14/2008, -6/+18I agree but I hope it doesn't turn into vista, more form than function.
- ExRe, on 07/14/2008, -0/+12Why don't you destroy your 360 now?
1 less dumbass kid on Live is a good thing. - Darkwave, on 07/14/2008, -1/+12"LIVE Parties, (group chats, eight frickin' people in one chat!), has been added, something many gamers have been desiring."
Oh good make the easedrop perk more useless than it already is in CoD4 ;) The only people that use it wont now. - Raptor007, on 07/15/2008, -0/+11I'll copy a few of my favorites to my Elite's 120GB drive, which has been sadly underutilized until now.
- ByteGuerilla, on 07/15/2008, -10/+21Agreed, it's pretty *****. As a software engineer I'd be pretty ashamed of myself if this is what me and my team came up with as a replacement for the blades system. The blades system was marvellous. It got slow on old systems that needed a service/clean but I imagine this one will do that to. The blades system had a good interface metaphor, was efficient, and clean. The problem was that it was a pain to navigate through huge lists of games, but a simple redesign of those specific screens would have done that.
I'm going to be pretty damn disappointed if I *have* to use this interface. I would rather have the option, because I'm rarely going through these huge lists of games, and the shoulder buttons skipping many list entries at a time made it much easier. I don't want this Mii *****, I want my blades back.
I'm seriously considering just removing my 360's connection to the internet when this update goes out. I would rather ***** it all than use this. - thecosmicpope, on 07/14/2008, -11/+22Personally I hate the current Xbox software. It seems complex and it was designed by a man who couldn't stop playing with his photoshop filters. I like clean lines and smooth interfaces, so I quite like the menu system that appears in that screenshot.
But do I really need a Mii? The Mii is great for the Wii since it is a completely different gaming experience. The Miis appear in lots of games and it adds to the cute fun nature of the Wii. What is the Microsoft version of this Mii going to add, other than an annoying talking avatar on your screen? - jcap, on 07/15/2008, -2/+13Until I saw the video of it in action, I thought they had simply just redone the current one. Now I can see that they're adding several new things to it for social networking. Still, I'm not a big fan of it, and frankly, they probably could have come up with something a lot more creative than adding what they dubbed as "Flip 3D" in Vista to their dashboard.
I'd love to see a dashboard overhaul, and I thought the Media Center one would be brilliant for the 360 if they used it. I threw together a quick concept of one just an hour ago:
Concept art: http://jcap.h2vista.net/files/personal/newdash1.jp ...
It is simple, clean, and convenient. Instead of having to scroll all the way to the bottom of a blade to start a game, you press up and A, and the game starts. The backgrounds would also be fully customizable, either changing as you switch sections, or you would be able to choose your own color or background. - Kinsbane, on 07/14/2008, -0/+11Now everyone knows why there was no Spring update. :)
- markthegoth, on 07/14/2008, -0/+11I was a bit gutted about buying my pro a fortnight ago and now they are coming down in price, but as I play it on my monitor 1680x1050 support is FAN BLOODY TASTIC !!!!!
- itsripitsrip, on 07/15/2008, -0/+11i wanna look like samuel l jackson, *****.
- estvir, on 07/14/2008, -2/+13If you don't like it, don't use it.
It's just one of those things that not everyone will like and use and I don't get why people feel compelled to need to justify a reason to use every new feature.
Not everything is for you, for example, they added the ability to copy games to the HDD yet that may not matter to some people -- good for them, let's all move on. - davidrools, on 07/14/2008, -1/+12yeah, copying one game at a time to your 13GB-free drive. I guess it's time to mod/upgrade.
- AngeloM3, on 07/15/2008, -1/+11Reagan smash!......................Reagan sleepy
