- wageslaven, on 10/11/2007, -9/+63Isnt it disgusting that somepeople will bend *ANY* postive about Microsoft into a method to attack it. Microsoft is giving away a game. Has _any_ other firm given a game away yet?
- viewdrix, on 10/11/2007, -1/+25Remember when EGM stated that, rumor was, Xbox Live Arcade would soon host revamped Xbox 1 titles, starting with a possibly free version of Halo 1, with online play?
Those were the good days. The good, innocent, naive days. - Sairgem, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19Funny how people STILL whine like spoiled brats when something is given to them for free.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+24That is why if you want to leave the US but still get things like this, move to Canada.
But seriously, I feel for you. I know how it is when you can't do something cool because of an artificial restriction. - heinousjay, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16Since it's available to Silver users, you're dead wrong.
- kraniac, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14I will NOT be too busy playing Halo 3 to download that. I love side-scrolling shooters and it seems like they don't make them like they used to anymore. I hope it's good... I'm very excited. Weird for me to say it, but kudos to MS for this promotion. I may not like their OS, but their console really seems to get it right sometimes.
- salmonmoose, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15"Your point is moot. It is free, so create a live account with U.S. set as the country and download the game. An annoyance, but a minor one."
The latest update restricts playing of restricted content from foreign IPs. So, that's a fake live account and a proxy server whilst you play :P - DutchManhave, on 10/11/2007, -13/+26Its too bad I'll be too busy playing Halo 3 to download that.
- baldr, on 10/11/2007, -12/+22Your point is moot. It is free, so create a live account with U.S. set as the country and download the game. An annoyance, but a minor one.
- odseraphim, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9"Microsoft said the game would be free to download for all Live Silver and Gold users for a limited time"
I'm pretty sure Silver is free? - Systematic1, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Another free arcade game? Cool. I'll download it for sure.
This kind of offsets the no longer free movie/TV promo items. Free disturbia.. shooter.. battlestar galactica stuff is all fine and cool. But the new ATHF, kickin it old skool, and heroes premium content.. eek. I mean, I'm not going to be like one of those morons who goes "LOL UR PAYEING TOO ADVERTIES!", but it was nice when all of the promo stuff was free. - nattybohman, on 10/11/2007, -5/+13I'm tired of people complaining about things costing more in other countries.
If you don't like it, stop voting in tax happy government representatives.
Maybe you won't have to pay 21% VAT if you shake up your establishment a bit.
(VAT is like a sales tax, but hidden so the populace can't complain as much) - rboyce, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Does anyone remember the scrolling space fighter shooter DOS game Tyrian? I'd love to see a re-release of that classic.

Nintendo gave away Wii Sports, for FREE??
You honestly think that turbo charged GameCube of a Wii is worth $249?
It's built into the price buddy. Everyone knows it was supposed to cost under $200. - Willeth, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6@dust: So I'm supposed to accept it simply because 'it happens'? If I don't find it reasonable I'm perfectly entitled to complain about it. And I can't see why higher prices in different territories is at all reasonable. The only reasoning there seems to be is that there is a precedent for it, and they can get away with charging more.
But that's not the issue. The issue is that this game appears to be available only in North America, and not at all anywhere else, and to top it off they've implemented the region restrictions. It's telling one person that they can have something for absolutely nothing, and lauding the benefits of it right in front of another person's face, while you're expressly denying that person from ever getting the thing you're currently waxing lyrical about. - citrusfizz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4@formulathree
I'm sorry i don't normally post on xbox/ps3 related articles but i would way rather pay 50 bucks a year for XBL then use ps3s free alternative. same reason i would rather pay to use windows then install linux for free. its just better and worth it.
and i use Linux at home and at work. I also have used the ps3 quite a bit so this is no MS fanboyism. - baldr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3@salmonmoose
The latest update makes it so that only video marketplace purchases are restricted by IP. - mr804, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2yes, same as other arcade games.
- djrbx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/a/aegiswingxboxlivearcade/default.htm
I was actually looking forward to playing this game. I was looking at xbox.com to see any new games for XBLA and came accross this just to find out that it's not even offered yet. - ZekeSulastin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Sounds like someone got their ass handed to them by R-Type one too many times. It's alright - we won't belittle you if you go back to your little FPS world ...

While it was originally spotted on the Entertainment Software Rating Board earlier this year, Microsoft kept mum on its Xbox Live Arcade game Aegis Wing until today, when it dropped a couple of smart bombs about the side-scrolling shooter.
First of all, Microsoft said the game would be free to download for all Live Silver and Gold users for a limited time. Second, it's going to be released this Wednesday at 2 a.m. Pacific time. Finally, the game is the product of a trio of students, conceived during a summer internship with Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade division and developed in conjunction with Carbonated Games (makers of Uno for Live Arcade).
Aegis Wing is a cooperative shooter where four players can take on an alien menace in experimental starships online or offline. During battle, players can join their ships together, letting one handle the piloting while the others fire away with superweapons accessible by attaching ships.
Aegis Wing is rated E for Everyone. Check back soon for more coverage of Microsoft's side-scroller.
If you want more, http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archive/2007/05/14/545143.aspx has a more detailed write-up and a few screenies.
This Wednesday, team up with up to three of your friends and prepare yourselves for intense side-scrolling, sci-fi shooting action in “Aegis Wing.” Originally conceived by three Microsoft Corp. interns over the course of a summer, “Aegis Wing” will be available for free to all Xbox LIVE® Silver and Gold members in North America for a limited time. “Aegis Wing” will be available for download on Xbox LIVE Arcade for Xbox 360™ beginning Wednesday, May 16, at 2 a.m. PDT.
“Aegis Wing” is a 2-D side-scrolling space shooter that combines epic space combat with fantastic visuals, and is set to a rich symphonic soundtrack. It is set in the year 2105, when humanity must flee a dying Earth for the distant world Europa. But this new home is soon threatened by a powerful alien race, the Araxia. With stolen Araxian technology, the Europa fleet develops an experimental star fighter and assigns four ace pilots to test it. The Aegis Wing is born, and it becomes your mission to wield this new technology as humanity’s last hope for survival.
Up to four players can play together either locally or over Xbox LIVE to defeat waves of nefarious Araxian ships and bosses, and can even combine spacecraft in two-, three- or four-ship formations to access powerful Super Weapons.
“Aegis Wing” was originally conceived by three students – Scott Brodie, Danny Dyer and Matt Monson – during a summer internship at Xbox LIVE Arcade. The students worked in tandem with Carbonated Games – the creators of fan-favorite, UNO® – to bring the game to the Xbox LIVE Arcade community. The full version of “Aegis Wing” is being released on Xbox LIVE Arcade free of charge and will be available for a limited time.
Game Features
Game features include the following:
* Amazing environmental art
* Full symphonic soundtrack
* Up to four-player simultaneous cooperative multiplayer gameplay, either locally on the same Xbox 360 console or over Xbox LIVE*
* Ability to attach your ship to your wingmen’s spacecraft to gain the “turret” ability and increase the firepower of the Super Weapons
* Four Super Weapons: the Hades Beam (wreaks total destruction), the Gorgon Burst (wipes out incoming fire and disables enemy spacecraft with an electromagnetic pulse), the Arcus Missile (a heat-seeking missile) and the Lambda Shield (deflects incoming fire back at enemies)
* Six epic missions and several memorable boss encounters to fight through
Where Can I Get It?
You can download “Aegis Wing” beginning Wednesday, May 16, at 2 a.m. PDT on Xbox LIVE Arcade. “Aegis Wing” will be available for download in North America only. “Aegis Wing” is rated E for Everyone, with Mild Fantasy Violence. More information is available at http://www.xbox.com/games/livearcade. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Apple charges far more for iPods in other countries too. What is your point?
Willeth...pretty mcuh EVERY online sotre has differnet pricing for differnet countries. In this case, the one price happens to be free. In other cases, it may be the difference between $100 and $150.
So why do you choose to only complain when Microsoft does it, and not Apple, or Amazon, or whatever? - DrumInfected, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Games not that bad for a bunch of interns and for the amount of time they put into it. Plus it's free! No complaints. The games much better if you play with more than one person, because you can attach to each other.
More free games MS! - akf2000, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1All game sites are blocked at work, can anyone post a summary please.
- brandf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Scott Brodie is from Michigan State University. He was the presedent of the MSU game dev student group called Spartasoft.
- RaGa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Any achievement points in this game?
- Willeth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Summary: free shmup.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Removal of tax from the UK subscription price makes it US$65. We get LESS than US subscribers who pay $49.99.
No political party stands for the amendment of Value Added Tax so short of setting up my own party I can't do anything about it.
I don't see why you are all burying me - I pay money for Xbox Live just like you do but I am being shut out just because of where I live? - NoHandle, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Now hold on!
They said free? And its from Microsoft?

- YouRookies, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1PS3 killer, watch out.
- Willeth, on 10/11/2007, -11/+6You guys are acting as if it's unreasonable to complain about this. It's like having a superstore with two entrances, but only the people who came in through the larger door are allowed to have carrier bags.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2I am complaining because this is Microsoft's IP and there are NO restrictions from a third party which would stop it from offering it for free to other countries.
It's simply annoying that they constantly belittle subscribers in other countries by not providing the same level of service when we are actually paying more if you compare prices directly. It's $80 for an Xbox Live Gold card where I live (Microsoft's pricing). - iRoy, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1lol

- formulathree, on 10/11/2007, -11/+1Funny how the PSN gives you stuff for free and charges no annual fees while Xbox Live charges a $50-$60 annual fee and gives you *****.
- blobzorz, on 10/11/2007, -12/+2So its free, and unlocks will be micro transactions =p
- formulathree, on 10/11/2007, -15/+1
Free - for a limited time. Can't these people just give away something free forever? - DiggerT, on 10/11/2007, -22/+1its not free, you still have to pay the xbox live subscription fee.
- Azimuth1, on 10/11/2007, -37/+13"Has _any_ other firm given a game away yet?"
Yes, Nintendo gave out Wii Sports with Wiis. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -43/+18It is disgusting that Microsoft is giving this content to North Americans for free and no one else. Do they realise that customers in other countries pay more money for a lesser service?
