- inactive, on 07/19/2009, -72/+143How come $150 dollars comes out of my paycheck to feed families that have 6 children (ever heard of protection), mothers that have kids get grants to go to school, they get money to feed those kids and themselves.
Here I am the single man with no kid going to school. I have to pay for everything!!! I get denied for grants, no food stamps...NOTHING. I shell out a percentage to feed other irresponsible *****!!! This is the one thing that is unfair to me in this country.
You irresponsibly have 6 kids = YOU GET EVERYTHING FOR FREE
You a re responsible = you pay for everything yourself - decay, on 07/19/2009, -12/+81What exactly did he say? All I'm reading is he told parents to not allow your kids to rot in front of the television as many kids do.
Why does digg insist on taking away features? Why can't I undigg. - sugarazor, on 07/19/2009, -10/+76Yeah, and those folks on food stamps are really living the high life.
- ColonelSlanders, on 07/19/2009, -9/+61lmao, i love microsoft. their response was hilarious.
meh, i don't care much for what obama has to say on video games anyways. - Urrelles, on 07/19/2009, -1/+44Shame on your for Digging before reading.
- SpeedyG, on 07/19/2009, -7/+46Jail is more expensive than welfare.
STFU. It's good for society to throw a bone to people who hit hard times or are generally less fortunate, even if it means pathetic douchebags get a piece. - Super6, on 07/19/2009, -1/+38They should replied with:
"We agree with President Obama's stance on the Xbox wholeheartedly, it's time to put away your Xboxes and buy an Xbox 360, it's been, what, 3 years now? It's time to upgrade, you don't make your kids do math with an abacus, do you?" - Mtown, on 07/19/2009, -0/+35He should have told parents to end their children's monthly WoW subscriptions.
- Zarokima, on 07/19/2009, -1/+36Why do people insist on signing their comments when their name is right there with it?
-Summer Glau - FurtThePirate, on 07/19/2009, -0/+33ok now how do I unbury articles that I accidentally buried.
- sugarazor, on 07/19/2009, -6/+37FTA: "President Obama hasn't exactly been known for his positive stance on kids playing tons of video games (even though he owns a Wii and ran campaign ads on Xbox Live, ahem)."
And? He's never said he kids shouldn't play video games, he's said things along the line of parking a kid in front of a console isn't effective parenting. It's funny, if he would've said "don't let the TV be a babysitter," everyone would say "right on!" but when he says "turn off the Xbox," suddenly this is some grave offense? - Mtown, on 07/19/2009, -14/+45I hope you are joking if you think people with 6 or more children live some sort of fantasy dream life. Do you know how annoying it has to be to RAISE 6 or more children?!
Also, you are terribly narrow minded. Even IF the parents are irresponsible, so what? You think the children should suffer for the parent's bad decisions? Since there is no way a normal family with more than 6 kids will be able to pay for medical/college bills/loans, instead of having the rest of society help them out we should just say, "screw 'em"? I'm GLAD you don't have any kids. You'd make a terrible parent. - visionaryIX, on 07/19/2009, -1/+28These comments suck.
Oh youtube. What have you done to us? - HCviolence, on 07/19/2009, -7/+34"as well as other crazy ideas -- like "reading to your children" and "helping them with their homework." What-ever, President Obama."
I have to say that if you let your kids fester in front of the TV they'll end up writing lazy blogs like this one. - gizmo12688, on 07/19/2009, -0/+26So they can shove remotes up their ass?
- HimThatSpeaks, on 07/19/2009, -7/+32Your passion blinds you. I am sure $150 a month does not come out of your paycheck every month to feed people with six children. But if it helps you feel like a good little victim/martyr and solidify your political views as an oppressed white male then go ahead and keep feeling that way. I hear that is a strong trend these days.
- cliffzdude, on 07/19/2009, -2/+26Obama didn't really make a statement about video games per se, really he as talking about parents irresponsibly using video games to keep their kids sedated.
I can relate: My kids are very happy when we let them watch DVDs in the back seat on trips, for a long trip we think that's ok. But for day to day driving, the DVD player is never turned on. A little boredom prods little minds along, and we've noticed they're actually very inquisitive about the world around them when they're not staring at the video screens like Zombies on Xanax. They ask questions about cars, buildings, animals, just about everything they see. I personally think that helps their little minds develop more than yet another Wallace and Gromit DVD... - inactive, on 07/19/2009, -3/+26If I was a high paid lawyer making 250 grand a year I STILL wouldn't choose to have 6 kids, that is utter selfishness and actually shows more either a fanatical devotion to religion or a bizarre fetish to procreate for some sexual and mental gratification.
- sugarazor, on 07/19/2009, -5/+26"They are, compared to the poor in many other nations."
Yeah and compared to them, the sixteen year old kid working at McDonald's is a billionaire. Your point? These people are lucky because they're not yet so poor that they have to eat dirt? That they live in a nation with resources that can help some of the impoverished?
Of course, that's if you ignore the fact that many parts of this country have been so devastated by poverty that it resembles a third world nation. - rabidjester, on 07/20/2009, -1/+21He's right, christ. Calm down people, he's not saying video games are evil or anything - he's saying get your kids off the damn couch. Am I the only one noticing how fat kids our these days?
- Presbyterian, on 07/19/2009, -8/+28"Do you know how annoying it has to be to RAISE 6 or more children?!"
Do you know how stupid it is to HAVE 6 or more children?. - sugarazor, on 07/19/2009, -1/+18Oh please... the stories in 99.99% of video games are worse than even a below average book. I love video games and I love when they have a story, but let's get real, we're not exactly talking Shakespeare. Hell, half the time we're not even talking Dean Koontz.
- richiewrt, on 07/19/2009, -3/+20Back in the day when i turned 16 I got a job as a bagger at a grocery store. I hated watching people come in buying all their food with food stamps and on top of that getting steak and wine and beer and then go outside and get into a nice car, meanwhile my family was driving around in older cars and trying to work for an honest living. All of our social programs need reform from welfare to food stamps. People need to learn to work for a living, not just spit out babies and wait on their government check.
- briLo, on 07/19/2009, -14/+31I'm sorry that your family will struggle with the piss poor decisions you made, however I don't see how your family is my responsibility!!!
I have made semi-sane decisions in my life, saved my income, paid my bills and yet my taxes go to pieces of ***** like you who insist on impregnating your filthy cum dumpster whore of a girlfriend 5 or 6 times when you know you're $8/hour job can't even support the two of you. - richiewrt, on 07/19/2009, -3/+19it is not societies responsibility to take care of someone's kids because they couldn't keep their legs shut. Single people way over pay their share of the taxes.
- raptorlightning, on 07/19/2009, -7/+23English is a great language, please learn to use it.
I did bump you once I finally understood what you were trying to say though. =) - kingp, on 07/19/2009, -1/+15I buried you because your comment has NOTHING to do with the article.
- ahughes, on 07/20/2009, -0/+13The fact that Obama uses "XBox" as a euphemism for video-gaming is a big win for Microsoft IMO.
- inactive, on 07/19/2009, -2/+15I think he mostly meant that video games and TV shouldnt be a replacement for good parenting, and i kinda agree.
- skektek, on 07/19/2009, -2/+15You don't have to live here. If you don't like being a member of a society you can always leave and move to a deserted island, or a vacant cave, but hurry, they are going fast!
- phauna, on 07/19/2009, -0/+12No u.
-My name is in the top left corner of this comment - inactive, on 07/19/2009, -3/+14@richie, society has a bias against singles without children.
I know single mothers who have 3 kids and have a home, albeit it may be rented but they are provided by the government and subsidized. But if you are an average single man or woman in your 20s, the odds are you are still living at home with your parents because it is difficult to afford car insurance, a decent apartment or home, bills, groceries and everything else on a single salary. You almost HAVE to get married or co-habitate with someone to split the bills. - ColonelSlanders, on 07/19/2009, -11/+22um, dude, libertarians are just as crooked as republicans and dems are. it always makes me laugh when people go saying that all politicians are crooked and then automatically think that the minority parties are heaven-sent.
- inigomntoya, on 07/19/2009, -3/+14Exactly. I like to read the comments first. Then I know what the popular opinion is before I do something stupid...
- Cannonballkid, on 07/19/2009, -2/+13books rot your brains?
- geodebug, on 07/20/2009, -2/+12Waaaah, taxes.
There are places in the world where nobody pays taxes. I guess you could move there and live the dream. - rpgmakr, on 07/20/2009, -1/+11"lmao, i love microsoft."
Digg has come a long way. - jgubbe, on 07/20/2009, -1/+11or how fat the chicks are.
- the8thbit, on 07/19/2009, -0/+9Bloodwine: That's because most of those nations DON'T HAVE QUALITY SOCIAL WELFARE.
Nitrodist88: By contrast, yes. The middle class in the US is in the top 2% or so world wealth bracket. - sugarazor, on 07/19/2009, -2/+11Yeah, that's exactly what he said... except not, at all, even slightly. No wonder why he's encouraging parents to read to their kids.
- iEATcatFOOD, on 07/19/2009, -4/+13Why?
- CoreyTamas, on 07/19/2009, -1/+10Trying to make the Xbox sound like a tool for bringing families together is a bold card for Microsoft to play. I applaud their audacity.
- TalahRama, on 07/19/2009, -4/+13Insisting on responsible decision-making would make him a terrible parent?
If he doesn't want to pay, he's a heartless bastard who wants to punish the children for the irresponsibility of the parents. If the government pays to help those six children, they're rewarding irresponsible behavior. Honestly, it seems like the government limiting the number of children a family can have is the best solution to this. If only it could ever happen. - robertonuno85, on 07/20/2009, -1/+9I worked at a grocery store and I can certainly vouch for people buying unnecessary ***** with food stamps.
They can't buy liquor with the EBT card, but they certainly do buy a lot of liquor with cash that THEY COULD be using to buy food for their families!
Oh, and lets not even go into the nice 30k+ car waiting out back...
One time, during the Superbowl, someone was buying all kinds of chips, salsa, soda, beer, etc. He handed me an EBT card and said food stamps. I refused to serve him and told him to either go into another check stand or leave. He threatened to call the police but I very calmly said that I can't stand scum like you who take advantage of MY MONEY and simply pointed to the "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" sign.
The whole welfare system needs a complete overhaul. - Maynza, on 07/20/2009, -1/+9Why does $150 come out of your paycheck?
Because you drive on American roads, rely on the local fire, police, ambulances, and provide for the local schools so that hopefully in the future we have less selfish piece of ***** like you and more educated youngsters who know the importance of providing for the good of the community rather than just themselves. - TVarmy, on 07/19/2009, -1/+9Er, couldn't you have put this rant in any of the other active Obama-related stories, that likely have more to do with his tax plans/stance on welfare? What does this have to do with video games?
- Bloodwine, on 07/19/2009, -17/+25They are, compared to the poor in many other nations.
- rabidjester, on 07/20/2009, -0/+8are* :/
- publiclurker, on 07/19/2009, -9/+16Libertarian huh, the party of "who cares who I screw over as long as I can continue to act like a self absorbed 10 year old".
