- inactive, on 04/14/2009, -33/+117The Xbox brings Windows quality to game consoles.
- sigmaman2, on 04/14/2009, -4/+74I think Microsoft leads all other companies in having the phrase "...of Death" associated with their products.
- stackolee, on 04/14/2009, -4/+55Or...MS could've spent another two months on QA testing, not rushed the 360 to market, and avoided the situation altogether.
- staulkor, on 04/14/2009, -15/+63It sucks that the 360 has all these hardware issues, but you gotta give it to Microsoft for owning up to the problems and extending the warranty. The could have been bastards and said though luck.
- frasermoo, on 04/14/2009, -4/+41"perhaps it has more to do with hiccups caused by spurred interest in turning on the console after a long period of dormancy."
right.. so I shouldn't play my console in case it overheats, but I should'nt leave it off for fear of E74. - spocksbrain, on 04/14/2009, -2/+36The next step would be to extend the three year warranty for the overheating problem that results in sound, but no video. It's a fairly common problem, caused by the GPU overheating, but doesn't result in an error message, just a total loss of video.

Gates: "How can we make people buy more Xboxs than PS3s?"
Lackies: "Lets make it so cheap they need to buy 3!" - ChinezePanda, on 04/14/2009, -26/+56What the hell... seriously.
Let me break it down....
360... Since 4 months after launch... 3 FAILURES.
PS3... Bought 1 month after launch... Runs without a hitch.
Microsoft has 2 fatal errors in this console... and yet still promote it as the best thing since sliced bread.
Do us a favor.. when your engineers know what the hell they are doing... then brag. Till then.. You have a console that is purely being backed by user and corporate generated hype.
Still love it though... just.. COME ON! - theaceoffire, on 04/14/2009, -6/+34I won't deny that the 360 needed this stuff fixed before they released, but I kind of lost my sympathy for the users...
I mean, if you are on your 6th or 7th console, and this stuff keeps happening, I would change console or beef up my PC. There is no point in putting up with that kind of failure rate.
My Xbox is solid like a rock, and never gave me a single issue... If the 360 had been the same way, I would have kept it. - jtscira, on 04/14/2009, -4/+32POS my 5th one broke last week out of warranty and I disassembled it and tried to fix it myself. Now they release this info.
Just my luck.
And to all you idiots saying you take better care of their console's FO cause this thing sits on a table by itself in free air. And I rarely change out the COD 5 disc. - Wilddigi, on 04/14/2009, -8/+36A billion dollar company and they can't make their products work
- GameEngineer, on 04/14/2009, -7/+32RRoD
E74
Disc scratching
Are the main hardware problems the piece of ***** 360 has. Then there are the less common hardware failures that have no name. And then like all DVD drives you have dirty lenses, head alignment problems, and finally dead lasers.
No wonder the system is dead in every region except the US and the UK where there are Microsoft fanboys pathetic enough to keep buying 4,5,6 or more of this turd of a console. - jacksons98, on 04/14/2009, -2/+27The difference is they fixed the DRE error on PS2, their still is no fix to the 360. Even when you send it back to MS the one you get back from Microsoft is just currently working, there is no fix.
- Solkre, on 04/14/2009, -4/+29How about a 3 year warranty for any problems?
- Solkre, on 04/14/2009, -1/+24Is it charity to stand by your product?
- Spire3660, on 04/14/2009, -3/+25And then thye would have been slapped with a HUGE class action lawsuit that most likely would win easily. Especially in light of the 360's team members basically telling everyone that the yield numbers were very very low. MS knew they had a problem and went ahead anyways. They most likely would have been found culpable and the damages would have been in the billions, no exaggeration
- CedEx, on 04/14/2009, -3/+25More like Windows ME.
- inactive, on 04/14/2009, -3/+21To be fair, both of you are just recounting your own personal experiences.
- snobrder218, on 04/14/2009, -2/+19@vawksel: Your response just proves you're a fanboy. "Because it's inferior in every way". Wow, grow up. So therefore, the 360s ability to play HD movies (none of that netfilx bs) is superior to the PS....oh wait...it CAN'T. It's ability to store more than 9GB per game? Once again, 360 still uses DVDs.
At least on the PS3, not every prepubescent boy has a headset, therefore I dont have some little ***** screaming at me because he sucks at a game.
@collapsecontrol: What the ***** is so amazing about XBL?! NOTHING.
Both have online, custom made usernames, both have frineds lists, both have text and voice chat, both some type of store/marketplace where you can buy/rent games/movies, I can connect to friends in-game on my PS3 just as easy on the 360. I never understood the hub-bub for 360s online.
Big whoop I can cross-game voice chat and invites. Heavens forbid I pick up my cell and call someone, or they send me a message "hey, want to play some COD?".
XBL has a few features that are nice, but the services are exactly the same. I can connect and play games online with friends and strangers whenever I want. - hordak, on 04/14/2009, -6/+22> it's yet another black eye for Microsoft's hardware.
Is it really? I doubt it. It's more of a black eye for 360 owners. Sadly, people keep buying the console regardless of the failure rate. Some people have even sent in their consoles 2-3 times, but they never learn their lesson... or maybe they don't care. Personally, I have not bought a 360 because of its unreliability. - BattleScars, on 04/14/2009, -3/+19How many problems does this thing have?
- thatsmyaibo, on 04/14/2009, -4/+19I'm on my 3rd. My brother is on his 4th. His 3rd had the problem right out of the box.
Not 1 problem with my PS3. - jacksons98, on 04/14/2009, -2/+17"The could have been bastards and said tough luck."
- I think you forgot they tried that at first and it's taken them 3 years to add this to their warranty, not exactly owing up. Infact they flat out lied about the problems earlier on. - Warriorofworlds, on 04/14/2009, -3/+17Its about time! I've heard of the Red Ring but haven't actually gotten one (not the "of Death" one anyway). I feel Microsoft should have been doing this all along since it IS their fault.
- tgc1, on 04/14/2009, -1/+15Just goes to show you, when a company gets too big, it ends up retarded.
- inactive, on 04/14/2009, -3/+17To be fair, ChinezePanda's experience is statistically closest to reality.
- gametavern, on 04/14/2009, -4/+18Strangely I just got my console back from RROD repair, updated to the new Xbox Experience, and instantly it E-68ed. Something is up.
- Jeffler, on 04/14/2009, -6/+20How about the dead DVD-ROM drives? Stupid 1 year warranty on them, they're a quite widespread problem and cost $120 to get repaired out of warranty.
- molecaat, on 04/14/2009, -6/+19my xbox lasted a year when i got the red ring of death. took it back to Game and they gave me an xbox elite and £5 on a giftcard. if you ask me, the red ring of death was the best thing to happen to my xbox.
- Ajajadude, on 04/14/2009, -4/+17Here's an idea: if they keep breaking on you, don't keep buying them. I don't care how much I love the games on any console, I'm not going to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to replace faulty hardware.
- CATSCEO2, on 04/14/2009, -4/+16Red Arc Of Death?
- Akairenn, on 04/14/2009, -3/+15This much market share? You mean a marketshare that's nothing compared to say, the Wii?
Or hell, the DS for that matter.
You can talk numbers all you want, because you're being slaughtered just like Sony. The only difference is, at least you don't need to send your PS3 back to Microsoft every other month. ;) - HelplessSEAL, on 04/15/2009, -1/+13I respect you opinion collapse, and will take it as that. However, I find it without much merit if you don't actually point out anything in particular with XBL that "far outshines" PSN. I've experienced both very thoroughly, they're pretty much they same aside from some very minor features that hardly make a difference. I barely favor the 360 because of GoW and Halo series, but I find the PS3's selection of games more enticing than ever...Try to be objective instead of religiously devoted to one opinion!
- Mship, on 04/14/2009, -2/+13Dam, man i feel for you. my box broke down last week and i was just about to fix it myself. sorry to hear about your luck.
- benologist, on 04/14/2009, -1/+12You'd think that but more often than not corporations turn a blind eye to their own mistakes and nobody gets punished but the consumers.
HP's my favorite ***** for doing this. In 2007 they sold a ***** of laptops that have problems with the way the nVidia chip is soldered onto the board. They issued a recall for just *two* models despite their own forums having thousands of people complaining about the exact same symptoms and Google showing 100s of thousands of people complaining. Their official stance is that every single person with the same problem across so many models is just an isolated incident, no warranty no repair.
It's always a nice change when a corporation *decides* to take responsibility. - feelmypimphand, on 04/14/2009, -2/+13Hard for me to 'give them credit' for owning up to the issue they have been brushing off until they were PROVEN it was a problem.
This is how M$ handles all of their problems when it comes to a consumer problem. - JigoroKano, on 04/14/2009, -2/+12And normally that would be pretty badass.
- theaceoffire, on 04/14/2009, -7/+17That's just harsh man...
- LupeFiasco, on 04/14/2009, -1/+11360 Fanboys = the Rihanna of the gaming world, Chris Brown= Microsoft.
- xcheats, on 04/14/2009, -8/+17Not to say that there isn't problems with the hardware, but I've had one of the first Xbox 360s that ever came out. Got it the Christmas of the year it was released and haven't had any RROD issues or anything else. Once in a while it won't read a disc for no reason, but that isn't too often. I would say if you are on console 4 or 5 you need to look at where you are putting this console. If you are stuffing your 360 in an entertainment center with no airflow and the door shut with a bunch of other components and getting problems you can't blame that on Microsoft. I've seen articles that say the RROD is inevitable, but I am still running strong.
My two cents. - tgc1, on 04/14/2009, -2/+11That doesn't say much for buying an xbox does it?
- kash55, on 04/14/2009, -3/+12Wonderful software, horrible hardware.....no disappointing.
It loud, it hot, it randomly doesn't work, it gets fatal errors, damn some one on the XBOX team really needs to get fired. - abrasion, on 04/15/2009, -3/+12LOL what a post!
HURRR!! The Xbox is an Xbox killer, it commits suicide with an E74 or RROD !! LOL HURR
$$$ UCKIT DUDE LOL$$$
My god. - inactive, on 04/14/2009, -1/+9Exchange it and get a console that ISNT a piece of *****.
- ryan69969, on 04/14/2009, -2/+10This line tingled my BS meter:
"Microsoft also claims it has made the necessary changes to decrease the likelihood of the error"
At the risk of wading into the XBOX v. PS3 fanboy nonsense, I did buy a 60GB launch PS3, and it really is about the coolest piece of technology I have ever owned. Once every month or two I blow the dust out of it, but I have never had any problems with it. - hordak, on 04/14/2009, -2/+10True, but chances are MUCH greater that the 360 hardware will fail.
- evilcaptain, on 04/14/2009, -1/+9oh great!
I've had to bin two of these microsoft abortions due to e74
They knew all about it long ago and have just assessed the size of the potential class-action lawsuit and decided this route would be cheaper :( - jacksons98, on 04/14/2009, -3/+11@r0g3r
Disagree.... if you want older games X360, if you want the best new games and the best upcoming games PS3. As far as online goes PS3 is better now too, you have support for bigger games, bigger maps, better matchmaking, less lag, more features like HOME, internet browser, remote play, etc.. and it's all free. - inactive, on 04/14/2009, -1/+9Hello Microsft , my xbox borked it says E74 or something
I'm sorry sir thats not under warranty can I..* hang up phone*
Ring again
Hey Microsoft you'll never guess what, my xbox got red ring again
