- hadiz, on 07/13/2008, -3/+48I see they're still gouging people for larger hard drives. An extra $50 for an extra 40GB? $1.25 per GB? Even by 2.5" drive standards that's steep.
- mywhitenoise, on 07/13/2008, -0/+41$280 Arcade
$300 20GB
$350 60GB
$450 120GB - coltrane68, on 07/14/2008, -0/+39How can the Arcade cost only $20 less than the 20GB model? I have had a 20GB 360 for years, and it is wholly sufficient. It seems like the Arcade would, at this point, be a brutally stupid purchase.
- inactive, on 07/14/2008, -1/+24A great way to entertain and heat a small home!
- smackafiyah, on 07/14/2008, -0/+22All the other 360 models (premium, arcade) made after August 2007 have HDMI ports now
- benman587, on 07/14/2008, -2/+24Why are people complaining about this? You're either getting more HD space for the same price, or 20GB for less money.
- sup3rc0w, on 07/14/2008, -0/+20wtf
- Sfenton, on 07/13/2008, -14/+34Looking to get a new Xbox 360 for my media center. Couldn't have come at a better time.
- TastyLamp, on 07/14/2008, -1/+17I don't get why the Arcade is US$299 in the United States, but US$337 (as of 14th July) in Australia. They must be using the special Microsoft-brand exchange rates.
- porplem, on 07/13/2008, -1/+16With the 20GB hard drive there's really only 13GB available to the user. That can fill up fast if you become demo happy, with 1GB demos not uncommon. An HD movie will run you about 4GB for the time you're given to watch it, but you still need that 4GB available. Figure in at least 2GB for game saves and arcade games over the time you have the console.
For no price increase, the extra storage is nice. More so than with the 20GB you'll be able to download freely without worrying about storage. If the hard drive is getting full, is it a big deal to go in and delete some demos and videos? No, not really. But it couldn't hurt to keep some of that stuff, either. Makes sense with Microsoft pushing all the downloadable content the 360 offers. - AntBing, on 07/14/2008, -4/+18Save your money, wait for the Xbox 720. You know it can't be more than a year away.
- awtripp, on 07/14/2008, -0/+12You kept the Ironman demo on your 360 long enough for it to matter? That game was like shaving with broken glass.
- Elranzer, on 07/14/2008, -1/+12The Elite meant something back when it was the only model with HDMI. Now, it's just for the black colored shell and bundled 120GB HDD. Honestly, they should be bundling the WiFi adapter by now.
- username9000, on 07/14/2008, -0/+11because this is more of a clearance. once the 20 giggers are out of market, they are not being replenished. the arcade was put to market so countries other than the US could get the system at a somewhat affordable price. I don't think it was ever big in the U.S.
- stellarceltic, on 07/14/2008, -0/+11Touche. I had no idea. Thanks.
- bunit03057, on 07/14/2008, -0/+10Yea it's sad when my old modded Xbox has a 300 GB HD. That would cost around $700 according to Microsoft.
- Sage920, on 07/14/2008, -0/+10Whooooosh
- SolituSneiku, on 07/14/2008, -3/+13don't take me as a fanboy but I have both 360 Pro and PS3 40 GB, and it was a lot easier to use the PS3 since it already has WiFi, not saying the 360 is bad choice for media center, but I would go with a PS3.
- mattyice11, on 07/14/2008, -2/+12The elite is a sucker machine and it always has been. As long as you don't keep year-old demos or download the pseudo-HD movies from the marketplace I can't see anyone running out of drive space. Stream any media you want to watch and you'll be fine. I've used 4 GBs of space and that's with 20+ arcade games, plenty of game saves and some DLC.
- theaceoffire, on 07/14/2008, -1/+11"20 GB is enough for anybody!"
- altgeeky1, on 07/14/2008, -1/+11I know I'll get modded down for this, but here's my point: you can't upgrade the 360 hard drive with ANY off the shelf drive. So why is making these drives so damn small? I can see driving the market for selling upgrades, but 20 or 40GB is crazy small.
Because of some game exclusivity, I've been waiting for a XB360 price drop (and the ability to swap in my own HD).
(Yes, I know you're 'supposed' to access media via a UPnP media share, but some of us don't want to keep a server 'on' all the time. I shut my MythTV off for upgrades, and my electric bill went down by $10. Offtopic, but anyways, that's all) - SwedishNinja, on 07/14/2008, -0/+10HEY, what MY Xbox 360 wants to do behind closed doors with other consenting male Xboxes is ITS business, okay? Do you think it's EASY to own a homosexual Xbox? Playing through Mass Effect was HARD when it kept zooming the camera in on Shepard's ass, but you know what? I lived with it, because I respect his decision. I don't think he's any less of a console for his lifestyle choice!
- watzkot, on 07/14/2008, -2/+11Do you know what they call fanboys that use; cuz, u and kno...? 12yr olds on the internet that have to look 360 degrees to make sure their parents are not looking when they spill nonsense.
- godzillaWax, on 07/14/2008, -3/+12Having multiple SKUs is a tremendous pain in the ass. How do you expect a parent to buy a 360 for a kid when there are 15 versions in the store? No wonder the Wii sells so damn well.
- kingp, on 07/14/2008, -5/+13bbbut the Red Ring of Death!
- SwedishNinja, on 07/14/2008, -0/+8Well, it's proprietary, so Microsoft can charge whatever the hell it wants and people will still buy it.
- inactive, on 07/14/2008, -13/+21If you hate playing actual games.
- tendonut, on 07/14/2008, -0/+7@punkcat
Definitely not. GRID was a 800MB download or something, and Ironman was 1.2GB. Realistically, the average demo on XBL is around 700-800MB, but many top 1GB easy. - Elranzer, on 07/14/2008, -1/+8Now: Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata, all those XBL Arcade games
Coming Soon: Cry On, Alan Wake, Fable 2, Viva Pinata 2, Banjo-Threeie, Tales of Vesperia, Star Ocean 4
And these are all 360-exclusive, non-FPS games. - orion846, on 07/14/2008, -0/+7i've had 20gb for years and never noticed a space issue. i still have 4gb today, and that 16 is mostly taken up with demos and crap i can easily remove. i don't know wtf i'm ever going to do w/the 80gb on my ps3, seems like serious overkill
- username9000, on 07/13/2008, -4/+11Amazon has the Elite for $400.00. $50.00 price drop.
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/13/sku-too-xbox-360 ... - WhereAmI, on 07/14/2008, -10/+16And there's ads!
For a paid service! - Cossa, on 07/14/2008, -0/+6My Intellivision has better graphics than your Atari 2600! I don't care if all the good games are on your console.
- Azerael, on 07/14/2008, -6/+12You forgot about Halo 3, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Forza, Project Gotham...
- CarnivalOfDust, on 07/13/2008, -15/+21Aargh! All these SKUs are making it really hard to choose which one to buy!
Do I go with the 20GB and hope for an eventual cheaper 120GB HDD, or wait until the 60GB Premium comes out, or do I just splash out on an Elite?
Do I get a Falcon now or wait for the more reliable 65/65nm combo chipset?!
Do I hold on and see if there is a Bluray version in the works, as rumored?!
Indecisiveness is not a good quality these days when you're choosing a new games console... Want to balance a cheap console with a futureproof console. But great news though! - andywu92, on 07/14/2008, -6/+12yea, because there definitely AREN'T ads in anything else we pay for
- DaDiggydiggyDOC, on 07/14/2008, -1/+7I'm already a 360 owner so this doesn't really affect me, but I think it's a bit sad that the price doesn't stay at $299 WITH the 60gig. The arcade should really be priced at $179 not $279 too IMO. That's the biggest reason that the Wii is able to sell so well...price, not games..(wake up MS)
- RiverBelow, on 07/14/2008, -3/+9fable
- theaceoffire, on 07/14/2008, -0/+6The arcade was ALWAYS the worse decision.
Going from no memory cards (xbox) to that? Madness. - DeltaOne, on 07/14/2008, -1/+7We're not actually calling this a price drop, right? Sony did the same thing months ago with the PS3, and they got HAMMERED when they called it a price drop. These console manufacturers trying to adopt Apple's "upgrade instead of discount" model is a bit irritating. I realize they want to try and extend the life cycle of these things, but all these changing skus are just too damn confusing to most people. If they want to expand their install base, upgrading the hard drive isn't going to get it done. We need ACTUAL price drops for that to happen.
- jtbndy, on 07/14/2008, -0/+6No console is future proof.
- theaceoffire, on 07/14/2008, -0/+6There shouldn't be, but they are greedy bastards.
- cawpin, on 07/14/2008, -3/+8Yeah, because MS if so far behind Sony's POS Home.
- chrisvc86, on 07/14/2008, -0/+5Pain in the ass if you have anything other than basic cable, and are streaming HD movies (audio has to be demuxed to 2.0 channels on HD sources). It is pretty nice when everything's working, though.
The netflix extender is pretty bad ass too, if you have an account. Just wish their selection was better. - mywhitenoise, on 07/13/2008, -10/+15I think 20GB is fine for 360. You don't have to do 4GB installs for games, plenty of space for saves, DLC, arcade games, and some media. You can't permanently keep the movies that are in the store, right? So those don't hold up any space.
- justice7, on 07/14/2008, -2/+7"What the ***** an xbox?" -Ozzy
- P373Y, on 07/14/2008, -0/+5why wouldnt they. its like saying why would sony let microsoft in on dvds. just retarded. its now a standard.
- trdrstv, on 07/14/2008, -0/+5apparently the $300 for the 20 gig are only "While supplies last" and they are phasing out that model.
- sUGArDawg, on 07/13/2008, -5/+9Well which one is it? $349 or $249? You submitted 2 stories from the same link with differing headlines
