- homietheclown, on 11/12/2009, -44/+710Good for Microsoft. You may own the console so good for you if you want to mod it. You do not own the network though, and MS has the right to ban your ass for pirating games and playing them on Microsoft's network.
- MAGZine, on 11/12/2009, -19/+525If you connected your hacked Xbox to XBL, you're ASKING to be banned from XBL.
- DocTerror, on 11/12/2009, -24/+452Right now there are 1 million players screaming and cursing at their X-Box's and we can no longer hear them.
Isn't that great! - gvoakes, on 11/12/2009, -35/+423So THAT'S why I've been running out of 12 year-olds to scream at?
- inajeep, on 11/11/2009, -30/+370I thought that Live has been less douchey.
- MrMischief20, on 11/12/2009, -12/+280Good, now ban the ***** 9 year olds next.
- TrainByte, on 11/11/2009, -11/+250Wow, that's a lot more than I expected.
- darcyp, on 11/12/2009, -5/+240Microsoft doesn't sue you for thousands, they just take away your multiplayer.
- iamsmooth, on 11/12/2009, -15/+213I don't get it. Digg users seem to be all for TPB, but they're against pirating Xbox games?
- sathias, on 11/12/2009, -2/+122Usually it's 10% of the people who make 90% of the noise.
- inactive, on 11/12/2009, -9/+119No...it is far less likely the the 12 yera olds are the ones modding their XBox and pirating games.
- travsb, on 11/12/2009, -1/+107at least in MW2 they streamlined the mute system... it now takes 2 seconds to mute an entire room of screaming retarded children
- Valdek, on 11/12/2009, -3/+100As far as I've read (from xbox-scene), the 1 million statistic is just quoted from a random "insider" who talked to a friend at a call center. I'm not denying that it's possible that 1 million were banned, but it seems odd that everyone is reporting that number with no actual evidence. Especially since the original "source" said 600,000 were already banned and they were aiming for 1 million.
There have been several ban waves before, but this one does seem to be the biggest. - AmazingSteve, on 11/12/2009, -4/+99MS isn't stopping anyone from modding their 360. You paid for it, do what ever the ***** you like to it. Just don't expect MS to let you play on their network with it for very long which reduces your multiplayer options to ZERO. Hurray! What fun! Rumor over at Xbox.com is that another huge wave is due before Christmas. If they've found a way to detect the stealth modded consoles, it'll be ***** carnage right in the middle of the high season for gaming. Sweet.
- Juntistik, on 11/12/2009, -1/+91Sadly the techie modders are usually the mature gamers.
- homietheclown, on 11/12/2009, -5/+84Ok I will correct myself then. Mod your console all you want, just don't expect to not be noticed when you sign on to Xbox Live with a modded console. It will bite you in the ass eventually.
- Demalaxy, on 11/12/2009, -10/+87"Players who find their Gamertags banned from Xbox Live have wound up in that situation due to violations of the Xbox Live Terms of Use," Major Nelson wrote. "The Xbox Live team monitors players for not just cheating, but also for things like threats, racism, profanity, and just being an all around poor sport and ruining the game for others.
"When a Gamertag comes up as violating our policies for online behavior, the person who owns that Gamertag is punished by being banned from the service. ---."
Ok, now I know they're talking out their ass, if they banned everyone who was profane, racist, anti-semetic, threatening, and people who ruin that game for the others, then they'd have to ban like 90% of the X-Box Live community on a daily basis. - cookingboy, on 11/12/2009, -4/+79I didn't realize XBL costs 100 grand a month.....
- Ogremindes, on 11/12/2009, -2/+74It's more along the lines of: If you're in Microsoft's house, you follow their rules.
- pikelet, on 11/12/2009, -2/+71Possibly it's a different group of people commenting. I personally take the same approach to both situations. I'll download music and movies to my computer...but if my ISP disconnects me because I went against their ToS, I will not throw a bitchfit. I may not agree with their ToS (because I am a cheapskate), but they have a right to enforce it. I don't have a right to demand that my illegal actions be tolerated and coddled; it is a risk that I take. It's like the guy who goes to the cops when someone steals his weed.
That said, I don't pirate Xbox games. However, if I did, I would not be entitled to think I can go play them on Xbox Live and whine when I get banned. MS doesn't make money off hardware sales, they make money off games and accessories. If you are downloading your Xbox games, you are depriving the company of revenue and not rewarding them for making something you love. Your $80 Live sub does not offset the 10 $120 games you pirated. (Local currency. Replace those numbers with the relevant ones for you). - MAGZine, on 11/12/2009, -7/+72Yes, you are.
wtf do you think will happen? - capthowdy1027, on 11/12/2009, -7/+72I got banned. I knew it was going to happen eventually. I didn't think I was cool and under the radar and that MS would never catch me. I knew it'd happen one of these days. Everybody on here acts like saints when it comes to this *****. I'm sure you all download music, movies, software... whatever. It's really no different.
I never really played on XBL very much anyway, so this is no big loss for me. I would rather have 75 that I paid the price of 1 retail for game. I am not affraid to admit it. - pikelet, on 11/12/2009, -8/+70@Iceman21
I'm a late-teenage (19, I guess that counts!) girl and I play Halo 3 online regularly. With my mic on. I have a pretty high voice and am unmistakably female. I have a ***** pink and purple spartan, for *****'s sake. Yet, I rarely ever get any lewd comments. Nothing more than the average Xbox Live 'suck my dick (*****, fag, Jew, etc)'. Certainly nothing related to my gender.
Now, where do I see gender related comments coming up? When a girl logs on with a gamertag like 'HottieGamerGirl', gets on her mic and goes 'Tee hee, I'm a girl! Isn't that so awesome? I'm not like those other bitches, I'll play Halo and go make you a sandwich too! Tee hee! Headshot! FROM A GIRL! But I'm basically just a guy with ***** because I'm not a vapid preppy chick~'
Attention whores. - Shawkab, on 11/12/2009, -12/+70Flash = Free
100+ burned games = Free
10 Retail games = $60 each.. $500 at the least.
New Console after getting banned = $200.
= Pirates win - AmazingSteve, on 11/12/2009, -1/+58Why digg him down? I'd imagine you'd kick me out of YOUR house if I walked in, called you a ***** and ***** on your coffee table.
- phpirate, on 11/12/2009, -4/+5612 year olds get their parents to buy them everything, they don't have any need to mod their xbox.
Nice try though. - v3rtex7740, on 11/12/2009, -1/+51People who must be even dumber than your friends.
- LuckyEMS, on 11/12/2009, -1/+50everyone says ***** The RIAA and the second you mention that you got banned they say "you deserved it" its the same on every site that has a gaming section that is moderately popular
- ShadowXOR, on 11/12/2009, -0/+46They're tough to beat in that department.
- Taru89, on 11/12/2009, -4/+49Hitler isn't too happy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfkDxF2kn1I - DarkShroud, on 11/12/2009, -3/+48Most pirates know that they're doing is illegal and don't whine about when busted. It's the small minority of self entitled that piss and moan because they were caught most likly because of their own stupidity & punished. The rest of us don't care to hear it from those kinds of people.
- gcnaddict, on 11/12/2009, -5/+50*****. No one actually does that.
(edit: my logic behind this is simple. If anyone did do that, they could go ahead and claim a good chunk of cash in small claims once Microsoft dropped the banhammer, and I haven't heard a single case where this was even attempted) - theavenger3, on 11/12/2009, -9/+53Where are the pirates who always defend TPB and others and scream "***** the RIAA!"
Is piracy fine with music, movies, and tv shows, but not ok with videogames? - marshdabeachy, on 11/12/2009, -0/+44^ banned
- daliminator, on 11/12/2009, -4/+47You're spelling needs work.
- akwok, on 11/12/2009, -7/+47But you didn't pay for the game. ZING!
- v3rtex7740, on 11/12/2009, -6/+45homietheclown, you're half right. Some people may have tried to play pirated games online, but I assure you, the vast majority we're banned for simply having the modded xbox, even without playing any pirated games.
- Chunken, on 11/12/2009, -0/+38MS bans your console not your Live account. So you can buy a new console and still have your achievements and all that.
- SpazAttack5000, on 11/12/2009, -6/+44Oh well, it`s not like you were purchasing the games for their console anyway.
- Shoebox639, on 11/12/2009, -1/+38Actually sounds like Microsoft wins, 1 million people x $200 for new xbox is a lot of ***** revenue.
- ChocNut, on 11/12/2009, -1/+37A mate of mine was banned a year ago even though he hadn't hacked his machine. We tried everything to get him bck on and prove that he hadn't tampered with his console (he even works in the game industry so had no interest in pirating).
Microsoft didnt budge. - flyinfoofighter, on 11/12/2009, -8/+44These bans are the just the tip of the iceberg and used more as a deterrent than anything else.
- aheinzm, on 11/12/2009, -0/+34isn't that kind of the point of enforcing any rule, to deter future violation of said rule?
- s0nicfreak, on 11/12/2009, -0/+33You would then have a 360 that you couldn't use online?
- Anub1s, on 11/12/2009, -1/+33"You pay to play" has a whole new meaning. That's the risk you run when you pirate, at least these guys aren't paying $25k for a copyright infringment.
- veryfishy, on 11/12/2009, -0/+32How do I digg you up more than once ;)
- noahgelman, on 11/12/2009, -18/+49Why FU? They broke the terms and conditions by modifying their systems when they knew they shouldn't and they got banned exactly like how Microsoft said they would.
- opticwind, on 11/12/2009, -5/+35You mean fix it, like for free, which is what they do for all red rings?
- anagoge, on 11/12/2009, -5/+35THAT'S OVER 9000!
- BooBooBaron, on 11/12/2009, -4/+33Now if only we could ban the racist
