- diggrim, on 10/13/2007, -5/+68good job Microsoft...I don't like many of your business practices but (motives aside) you're doing a good thing
- DSEZ, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32This is awesome, I got a couple buddies in Iraq that I sent a xbox 360 back in june. He told me he is trying to order a copy of amazon and have me send it to him. :D
- Aleman360, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29Awesome, those guys deserve anything they can get to relieve all that stress and boredom. Kudos to Microsoft.
- diizy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+31**SONY FANBOY ALERT: CODE RED CODE RED**
- illpoint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22it is 08, that was a typo
- displacedtexan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27MS often gets no love from the Digg community (sometimes rightly so...)
Good to see them doing good stuff and people noticing... - chess10, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21I don't think a company doing something as awesome as this deserves any trashing from anyone right now. Good job Microsoft!
- Aharoni, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Yours truly,
Sony Defense Force - thotpoizn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Do you really think that soldiers should go 24x7 until their tours are over or they just ***** die of exhaustion? The USO is not a place soldiers go when they are ON duty, numbnuts. Or don't you think they ever deserve any off-time?
- frostyfrog, on 10/17/2007, -3/+19People often forget how much Microsoft gives away, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has given away billions ( yes BILLIONS ) to various charities. Criticize MS' business practices all you like, but at it's heart, there are some very generous people there.
- Funnyman22, on 10/12/2007, -2/+181. Duh it's for publicity... but sometimes publicity can help others in need
2. If you want to dub the next-gen console that's sold the most units so far and has the most games available the "Crap Box", then an Xbox obviously abused you when you were little.
3. do you form cohesive thoughts in your head before speaking? - cyrix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Ok even if we assume it's a publicity stunt, it is still a nice little "perk" so to speak for our troops who have to be over there. If I were over there I'd be damn happy to get something like this.
- weezerjoker2, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20It never ceases to amaze me how easily some Diggers can turn a heartwarming story into something so negative through the comment section.
- MakinBacon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14No matter the motives... this is a nice gesture from Microsoft. I'm not their biggest fan but I'll be the first to admit when a company does something good. More companies should do the same.
- Kyvv42, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18Whatever their intentions may be (i.e marketing, publicity) its still a good thing. *tips hat*
- tingrin87, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13RTFA
"...copies of Halo 3 and Madden NFL 08...." - Jibberwalk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13That is one of the most dimwitted and smarmy things I've read in a long time. It's called morale...
- pathrw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Glad to see the troops getting some love, no matter who from. They deserve it.
- xtc46, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13MS does this kind of stuff a lot. I work for a medium sized non-profit and they gave us 500k worth of software to help out in building up our client and staff networks.
- dmightx, on 09/21/2008, -1/+13Oh yeah damn I forgot they aren't human. They need not recreational time. /sarcasm
- Funnyman22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12yes delta, i'm sure they're playing ALL DAY. I'm sure they have nothing better to do over there than play XBox and eat grapes fed to them by beautiful women.
- ncc74656m, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Monarch, you're on notice!
That said, they should make a way for those XBOXs to accept floating Live accounts, and also give cameras and mics, so that soldiers can feel more in touch with family and friends back home. - Ayakashi_Oni, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11w00t! Rock on Bill, ya done good.
- MegaJimmy8, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11As a FOSS advocate I rarely get the chance to praise MS, but today: Good job Microsoft! There, I said it.
- toxicityj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9for all you idiots trying to belittle what MS is doing here with RoD jokes, Iraq doesn't matter statements, etc. please shut up. We all support (or should) our troops regardless of the reason they're there. And MS is doing a great thing by sending over the 360's
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Technically speaking, EVERY company does thiongs like this "for publicity". However, Microsoft also does these kinds of things without any fanfare FAR more often than most companies do.
Seriously...you are not going to look intelligent if you suggest that Microsoft (or Bill Gates) is not charitable. - flog4file, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I hope other companies follow suit, our service men and women deserve all the support we can give them.
- Funnyman22, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Yeah that's freakin' horrible! These guys are going to come back to America and think "Man, the only company that did anything good for me while I was deployed was Microsoft, so why not - I'll pick up an Xbox." Man, that's gonna scar these guys for life!
- natenovs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Is pukufek being offensive? yes. Report it.
- Aedilus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Trained soldiers against us civilians. I know I would have no chance against them!
- HOOKSTER1231, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Obviously you never finished the game, so shut the hell up. I wont spoil anything for anyone but you are wrong.
- HOOKSTER1231, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7There is broadband there, how the civilians can obtain it and how wide spread it is i am not sure but there is bradband there, and you cna bet your ass our military has somthing faster than .56k connection.
- ShogunWarPig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5curing cancer?
- carlj133, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Damn!!, I look like an idiot now.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5actually the article says madden 08... the guy who posted it in digg got it wrong
- TheTaoOfBill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Supporting the troops != supporting the war.
- pcpimpster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i just did
- Mistuke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5well.. maybe because they tend to shoot back...
- iChainsaw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5way to go microsoft...now all our soldiers are going to think that hopping up and down in air and running around in circles dodges bullets....
- ciaran036, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4sounds like too bad better arrogant than retarded.
- bagelpirate, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5im joining the army
- FredFredrickson, on 10/17/2007, -3/+7You should send your PS3 instead... at least then it would have some sort of use.
- kogeki, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I am against this war but the soldiers are not at fault for what our government is making them do. This is money well spent. Anything that can help soldiers pass time and ENJOY that time has my support. Can you imagine what it is like for them to be over there, seeing these terrible things everyday and then being left alone with their thoughts because they have nothing to do? Playing video games is a great escape from the harsh realities of war, I would assume. I know I would lose it very quickly over there myself.
- gerbintosh, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Ummm, just for the people who haven't been to Iraq or Aghanistan but there wasn't unrestricted access to the Internet. It is heavily filtered. Proxy rules out the ying yang, so there is 0% chance of playing Xbox live. Good on MS though. Troops could always lan up the xboxes. We did that in the rec tent while I was there.
- DvidY, on 10/13/2007, -1/+5thats great that they can have something to do on there down time and kind of zone out.
- Wiini, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Oh okay Monarch... but if Apple were sending around iTunes you'd be giddy as a school girl.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11Why dont they send 360's to Iraqi children?
Oh wait, because Iraqi children dont have ***** electricity. How about they send them the ***** generator components the Haliburton contractors forgot. - Sethbacca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You're a crackpot if you seriously believe that by supporting the troops you have to support the war. They're over there because whether they believe in the war or not, they signed up for military duty and are following orders. If you would fault them for doing their duty by not providing them material comforts to keep them happy while they are over there, then you're a douchebag, plain and simple.
