- cledford, on 05/14/2008, -28/+127If it ain't broke don't fix it... oh, wait.
- joltjake, on 05/14/2008, -12/+64Why would they need to come out with new 360s? They are perfect as they are, I especially like how the light in the front randomly changes from green to red. It's a cool touch that neither Sony or Nintendo can match.
- inactive, on 05/14/2008, -7/+53Inaccurate. You totally ***** up the title
- sargentcrackers, on 05/14/2008, -2/+28I thought he meant they would stop production of 360s. Then I read the story.
- deezp1, on 05/14/2008, -13/+31why would they let rumors fly like this, even if it was true, spreading rumors like this could slow console sales.
- jjustice, on 05/14/2008, -0/+17OK, let's get this straight. The Digg title (probably erroneously) implied that the topic was (1) whether any new 360 units would be manufactured. The article itself implied that the topic was (2) whether a slimmer 360 would be created. The quote from the MS guy person, if taken out of context (or if engadget put it in the wrong context), could be construed to refer to (3) whether a post-360 console would be created.
Unless endgadget messed up, the whole thing is really about #2. Feel free to post about 1 and 3, but that's not what the article seems to be about. - inactive, on 05/14/2008, -3/+21And the new PS3 will have rootkits pre-installed. Har har har.
- DaDrake, on 05/14/2008, -7/+25The 360 is proving to be very successful .... while Microsoft lately hasn't handle itself THAT well (although, other parts of its business are still raking in money) .... they have handle the 360 well.
- Jeffler, on 05/14/2008, -2/+18When it turns red, you've beat the system! Its just like winning every game at once.
- wikwam, on 05/14/2008, -2/+16the only reason they're saying that is so that the rumors won't effect sales of the current 360s.
- trogdor282, on 05/14/2008, -2/+14Having an axis or point of support that is not centrally placed.
- dukeochutney, on 05/14/2008, -9/+20my 360 just crapped out the rrod from heat and i bought in jan 2008. so no they havent been.
- Skahara, on 05/14/2008, -2/+12What the ***** are you, a Microsoft Bot? You said the same ***** over and over.
- ahhell, on 05/14/2008, -4/+14Wow, those were quite a stretch.
Fail. - yournamehere, on 05/14/2008, -0/+10Call me crazy but I've been using them both.. it's why i bought them.
- InfinitySnatch, on 05/14/2008, -1/+10That's retarded. The 360 hasn't even been out for 3 years.
- StarWarsFever, on 05/14/2008, -5/+13I don't need a new console, just give me an external BLU-RAY player to replace my HD/DVD coaster!!!!!
- rlray216, on 05/14/2008, -1/+8I'm on my third one, and it hasn't broke down yet, so maybe it is fixed. I hope so.
- bigbadgoat, on 05/14/2008, -6/+14That's why their gaming division is in debt billions, then?
Ohh yeah, they hanfle it real well. - rsek, on 05/14/2008, -1/+8cool, because I just bought a new one
- richporter, on 05/14/2008, -4/+11They already did that. Supposedly anyway. I purchased the "fixed" version of the 360 late last year after my original got the red-rings. Haven't had an issue so far!
- ChinezePanda, on 05/14/2008, -3/+9You have to turn the console on first. What you just said makes absolutely no sense and violates the very laws of Thermal Physics.
- tomz17, on 05/14/2008, -0/+6Actually, the gameboy line has backwards compatibility!
- TheMidnight, on 05/14/2008, -0/+6The title's misleading. It sounded like they were ceasing production of all XBox 360s in 2009. I had to read the description to figure out it actually meant "Microsoft Says No New XBox Platforms in 2009."
- ChinezePanda, on 05/14/2008, -3/+9Downloadable content is NOT a selling point to me. Why would I want to pay more than I originally paid for? The content would either have to be really good... or well.. really good.. And since NOONE KNOWS what the hell we are getting on the 360 side... I dont give two ***** about rockstars content on the 360.
And to think that the ps3 is NOT GETTING its own content.. is downright ignorant.
If thats the case then.. Ill just rent the game from gamefly and experience it. If its that big of a deal.. And frankly.. I doubt it will be entire new cities... I mean.. Hackensack New Jersey and Newark are NOT EXCITING places.... I live in the city... I know exciting.
Then again.. we just dont know - yingjai, on 05/14/2008, -1/+5in a thunderstorm
- inactive, on 05/14/2008, -1/+5Microsoft is one of the few companies willing to lose billions to gain a stranglehold monopoly in any market. They were really hoping to kill Sony this time around...early R&D hardware put them on the failboat. Although they are having decent success as a relative newcomer..but at the end of the day, it's obvious they are still a software company and Sony is still a hardware company.
- FredFredrickson, on 05/14/2008, -0/+4I'd be awfully shocked if they didn't create a new 360 with a Blue Ray player inside. Other than that, I doubt we'll see any major hardware improvements until they put out Xbox 3.
- SSCrow, on 05/14/2008, -3/+8I'm sort of getting this subtle hint that you hate the 360.
- etx313, on 05/14/2008, -3/+9The same thing we did with the good ol' "Disc Read Error." on the PS2. We'll go outside, maybe fly a kite.
- bullhead2007, on 05/14/2008, -5/+10The 360 has been on 65nm since 2007. I'm sure they're working on a 45nm model but they will deny it until they officially announce it and market it.
I have a 65nm Xbox360 and it's quiet and little to no heat comes out the back. - Pastian, on 05/14/2008, -2/+5All he did was copy/paste it. Complain on the article, if you don't like it.
- richporter, on 05/14/2008, -3/+8I'm a Sony fan boy, always have been, and I'm still not happy that I spent so much money on the PS3 when the 360 delivers so much more for less.
- davidrools, on 05/14/2008, -2/+5E Profit!
- ChinezePanda, on 05/14/2008, -16/+23American engineering at its finest.
You got a defective console with no redesign in sight.
Meanwhile there is another console already with 65nm processors and working on pumping at the 45nm line when readily available.. and is whisper quiet.
Havent turned my box on in 4 weeks.. GTA4 runs swimingly on my black behemoth. - ChinezePanda, on 05/14/2008, -2/+5Check again my friend. The black box is outselling my little white friend on all continents.. excluding the united states.. where they saturated the market.
- inactive, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3Disregard this, I read your comment wrong.
- FredFredrickson, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3I wouldn't be surprised, but I still doubt they'll be putting out the next Xbox any time soon. Sony has given the PS3 10 years - that's plenty of time to make up something better, and beat them to the punch by a matter of years.
- logandurand, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3Christmas comes every year ...
- ChinezePanda, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3I am at work.. on Digg... Then going down to St Marks and getting trashed. Care to join me?
- inactive, on 05/14/2008, -4/+7successful at failing???
OK, joking aside, the 360 is doing well but the hardware fiasco doesn't make MS look all rosy.
It's still an R&D piece of crap rushed to market. The business model is pretty sound as far as selling media. - robthom, on 05/14/2008, -0/+3well played.
- krische, on 05/14/2008, -7/+10uh, the PS3 is doing better in overall sales. The only place the 360 is really beating the PS3 is in America. Everywhere else, the PS3 is selling faster.
- joltjake, on 05/14/2008, -3/+6No need to get personal. I was merely pointing out that the Xbox 360 has overheating problems as it is, and the technology is not currently available to do a complete redesign like they did with the PS2. Also, as I recall, the PS2's original model had no problems with overheating. But from one digger to another, don't be such a douche.
- Acglaphotis, on 05/14/2008, -0/+4You are paying 50$ a month for xbox live?
- KMartSheriff, on 05/14/2008, -2/+4"we can tell you that we have no plans to release a new console in 2009"
So we'll see one in 2008? - reaper527, on 05/14/2008, -0/+2the title is a bit misleading. while there is no slim 360 on the way, there will be new xbox 360's coming to market. in the fall, we will see the jasper motherboard, which will feature a 65nm gpu (in addition the 65nm cpu that falcon already has). who knows what revisions the valhalla motherboard revision will bring next year.
- paulsmith288, on 05/15/2008, -1/+3it isn't good that the 360 RRoD - but the 3 year warrenty is a positive move. If your an M$ hater - it costs them a lot of money. If your an xbot your arse is covered for 3 yrs.
- maley, on 05/14/2008, -3/+5Of course they'll say no. They have broken boxes on shelves and they want them to SELL. If they say there is a new 360 model coming out that isn't a broken piece of trash nobody will buy the ones on the shelves now, that's why everyone always denies new models and price drops.
- Barackalypse, on 05/14/2008, -5/+7I think he means that you'll only be able to purchase refurbished Xbox 360 units until they deplete their vast supply of repaired red ring of death Xbox 360's. When they run out of those, sometime in 2010, they'll start making new ones again. *
