- PooChunk, on 12/30/2007, -5/+154 days of inconsistent service now. This is ridiculous. XBOX Live is 13 cents a day. 13 x 4 = 52 cents per user. What is 52 cents times 8 million XBOX Live users. $4,160,000 is how much money Microsoft has now made from a community of people who are paying for a service that is not being provided to the lengths of which was promised. Thatz over $4 million dollars that Microsoft gladly puts in their pocket and offers no compensation. Just goes to show how the little guy gets thinner and the big guy gets fatter. What a festive time of year.
- bdsams, on 12/30/2007, -2/+10They need to do something...many of us have the next few days off of work and expect to be able to play on our paid for service!
- Ajajadude, on 12/30/2007, -3/+6Only real fanboys would think there's absolutely no problem with something like this happening to a service that is being paid for. Like the article said, Blizzard compensated their users for downtime, why can't Microsoft? If your internet goes down for extended periods of time, you (can) get compensated. Same with any other fee based service.
- 311chaos, on 12/31/2007, -0/+3I still cannot recover my account. 3 days and counting... The best part is that Major Nelson is making a big deal about users NOT using the account recovery feature when you are at a friends house (I want to use my Halo character and get achievementsif possible). To me that is like Google asking me to only use my gmail account on my home PC and telling me that I cant use it else where.
- amrush4th, on 12/31/2007, -2/+4Its just online play, it's not like you pay for....o wait.
- inactive, on 12/31/2007, -1/+3When you pay for a 12 month XBL Gold card, for example, you are paying for 12 months and not 361 days. You don't need to check the ToS to know this.
- dansmeek, on 12/30/2007, -3/+4you know for a paid service ( i haven't used XBL in a while so correct me if i'm wrong ) i relaly think xbox should have dedicated servers.
in this case with the server outage.... i would think the correct thing to do would be to give a month free of service to all members who are actively paying for a gold membership. as said above, its only 52 cents and 1 month would be 10x that amount -- but a service shouldn't suffer these types of problems.
part of me thinks that MS is willing to deal with these server problems rather than spending money on upgrading and adding more online servers. they probably assume a lot of people get these for xmas, use the online service a whole lot at first, and then slowly use it less and less.
so they just keep the amount of servers up at a bare minimum to cater to the average traffic rate -- rather than the maximum traffic rate. which is all fine and dandy if the service is for free. - zomgitsjeff, on 12/30/2007, -5/+6XBL ruining my whole Christmas break I was going to relax play some halo with a few buddies and maybe score a few more game achievements. I hope this gets fixed ASAP
- dansmeek, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1actually, i was referring to how games like halo will use a normal xbox360 player's console to 'host' the game rather than a dedicated server.
i believe for a paid service high profile games should have dedicated servers. - freehunter, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1I'm sure they do use dedicated servers, I can't imagine them sharing it with any of their other services, save for the Live login, which I assume is a shared server between all Windows Live services. And no company will really upgrade their servers, which is costly and can produce even more downtime, when the issue is just a temporary loss of service.
- CountryTime, on 12/31/2007, -4/+4maybe microsoft just doesn't care?
- doshindude, on 12/31/2007, -1/+1maybe YOU should go outside.
- SDyer, on 12/31/2007, -4/+4Alright, so Microsoft made 4 million in those 4 days..... and you propose a month of free service. At a cost of over 30 million dollars. Greedy bastard.
- LLamaStar, on 12/31/2007, -7/+6You should go outside. There's lots to do in the world.
- jeff94, on 12/31/2007, -2/+1Dude, this is digg.
- antoniuk, on 12/31/2007, -6/+4You all sound like a bunch of MMO addicts. Servers are down, find alternative ways to feel superior like kick a squirrel in it's nuts or yell at an old lady while she is crossing the street. Or my favorite, post anonymously on a social network site about your non egistant angst ;)
- inactive, on 12/30/2007, -8/+4Live goes down with every major game release. It hasn't only been 4 days....
- Azimuth1, on 12/30/2007, -10/+2Do you seriously expect a system as large and complex as Xbox Live to never run into any sort of technical problem?
"$4,160,000 is how much money Microsoft has now made from a community of people who are paying for a service that is not being provided to the lengths of which was promised."
Please link to the part of the Xbox Live ToS that promises 100% uptime. - toxicityj, on 12/31/2007, -10/+1I'll sum up all the comments that'll be posted:
"I want compensation because I missed 4 days out of 365 days"
"I want compensation because I have nothing better to do than play video games online"
"We don't need compensation because its only 4 days out of 365"
"I haven't experienced any of this. So therefore, Its not happening"
"Ron Paul would compensate! RonPaul2008.com" - EvanVolm, on 12/30/2007, -16/+4Oh Christ get a grip. You pay $50 for an entire year of gaming. 4 days without it and everyone goes ape *****.
