- Nickbc87, on 10/11/2007, -1/+42I'm gonna have a nerdgasm every 15 minutes I play this game!
- MosaicM, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17While I like PC's better for gaming, your seriously misinformed about consoles. They stopped being just for children a long time ago.
- Arbus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17Yes, only dumb people would want to be able to have more control over their character. The highly intelligent gamer is easily overwhelmed when confronted with the ability to aim and take cover. It is an existential nightmare - one must decide whether to fire upon the enemy, upon ones friends, or into the sky in defiance of a cruel God.
Don't worry, all the in game dialogue is written by Noam Chomsky, and then encoded using a Vigenère cipher which you must decipher in real-time while you play.
All the music is by Björk. It takes a supreme intelligence to truly understand her genius. - ohmyblazes, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16Ditto. I just wish the game would get a damn relase date!
- PackerX, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18I cannot take the opinion of a news site that spells it "Neverwinter Knights" seriously. Further reading shows several grammatical errors.
That being said, this game will be the end of me. - spatulacity, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Normally I'd agree with you, but here I wouldn't worry about it. KOTOR didn't feel dumbed down, and Bioware is the only developer that has never let me down.
Mass Effect has a shooter mechanic because they feel that will represent the combat of their era the best, so I'll trust them in this. - wilf_brim, on 10/11/2007, -7/+14I used to agree with you. About six years ago. Lets face facts, shall we?
Cost of a decent HDTV ~ $1000
Cost of XBox 360 $400
You can play just about every genere of game (save MMOs and RTS) on the console, and it will look every bit as good as your computer. And it will work all the time. Let's compare to
Cost of a decent gaming set up $2000+, and will need graphics upgrades every 18 months, at 300-500 per.
Cost of monitor 400-800, depending
Now, the very sad fact of the matter is that STILL it is a crapshoot if any given game will play on your system. Maybe it will work. Maybe the sound card driver, video card drivers, or the fact that the gaming gods just happen to hate you will cause the thing to crash to desktop, freeze, stutter, or just ***** up generally.
Sorry. Yes, the Wii is a toy. However, the 360 and (even though it pains me to say it) the PS3 are very formidable systems that will probably give a better gaming experience at a much lower cost. - Deano3041, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6well i plan on buying my elite in a few weeks...and boy does this fall/winter look to be heaven for gamers....the great games of this generation will be here this fall.......and this article makes me wanna go reserve mass effect...
- ray42, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8Dammit, so it's REALLY coming out in September then eh?
- vcleniuk, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7WoW or Mass Effect?
Hmmmm...
(Cancelling WoW payments :) - swiecki, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6i loved the novel that came out a few weeks ago which was set in the game's world, and I'm am so happy Bioware finally ditched the constraints of Lucas's star wars world.
- MatttK, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Don't count on it with the only *direct* competitor (Wii is awesome but can't have quite the same games) costs a couple hundred more.
- ElliotShoe, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Why is that a "Damnit!" shouldn't it be a "F*CK YEAH!"
- Schmidtopolis, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5"I'm am so happy Bioware finally ditched the constraints of Lucas's star wars world."
Finally? They made one... ONE Star Wars game, back in, what, 2003. Obsidian made KotOR 2. Afterwards, Bioware made Jade Empire, which was an original IP for them.
Oh, and Bioware has not stated that this game will be released in September (so you can't push back what hasn't been set), that is all speculation. Evidently there will be an announcement from Bioware at E3 about something, but what that something is, is still unknown. - MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -0/+3It WAS supposed to be out first quarter 07, then summer 07, now September looks pretty solid. Whatever, as long as they're working out the kinks I can be patient. However, it's going to be released just a few weeks before Halo3.. I don't know if that's smart... will it have enough time to reach it's sales peak?
- ByteGuerilla, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3A true funkmachine would not need to have his handle tell us he is such. You are an imposter, and your views on consoles are outdated.
- malcolmreynolds, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I was considering getting an Xbox 360 for Halo 3 and now I'm pretty sure I'm getting one for this as well. It's been a long time coming, (my getting a 360) and now I'm pretty pumped.
- slicknick, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Hmm..Not to pick on this particular post, but this is perhaps the 6th digg article I've seen in the past 10 days with a spelling error in the headline. You'd think people would be more careful; yet, I suppose sometimes excitement overwhelms hand coordination :)
- Jowitz, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5I don't know about the $2000 price tag for a decent gaming computer. That's if you want graphics way above normal. I have a $1000 computer (about 8-10 months old) that runs newer games at normal or above-normal settings. My monitor is good enough for games (yes, not as good as a higher end monitor or HDTV) and it was only $200.
- stappawho, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@wilf_brim
After playing Command $ Conquer on the 360, I have to say there is hope for MMO's on consoles. It was surprisingly easy to control after a little practice. Would still be a heck of a lot better if I could plug in a mouse and keyboard though. - IceDjinn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Actually the article states "As the creators of beloved classics like Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire"
You sir should learn to read properly... - strictnein, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I hope you get a shovel in the back of your head. Way to f@ck over the developers you support. Get a job.
- zander106, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Complete agree with ceej23 here. There's no new info here. Might as well have linked to Wikipedia for all the information that was in the article.
Once again, the digg community demonstrates how easy it is for their site to be co-opted into boosting the hits on a heretofore unknown news site. So many diggers seem to think that digging an article is simply expressing their positive opinion of the news topic, and they never even bother reading the article or going to the link provided. Really makes for some high-quality stuff making it to the front page.
And I'm sure my comment will be dugg down into invisibility in 3....2....1.... - rwallen, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Pinball FX and that Minigolf game are fantastic.
- YourSexyMama, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Wiff where are you getting these numbers? AlienWare? You my friend don't know anything about building a PC if you think these numbers are realistic...
I built a top of the line PC 2 years ago (for less than a $1000) and it still considered a decent machine by todays standards... - berb, on 10/11/2007, -6/+4This game looks excellent! Hopefully this will be the game on the 360 I've been waiting for to make my purchase worthwhile. Oblivion, GoW, and Viva Pinata have lasted a little while, but I've spent 10x the time playing Wii games and I've had the 360 for much longer. Another Bioware RPG could change that in a flash :)
- Jowitz, on 10/11/2007, -7/+4I agree that PC's are better for gaming, but nothing would make me happier than the news that this game (a console game) is coming out on PC. Consoles are great, I'd just rather spend my money on a PC.
- ceej23, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1While I can't wait for Mass Appeal, this article is just a rehash of existing info. So what! Go to the Bioware site or Gamespot and read the same stuff dated 3 months ago.
Buried. - homer4199, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3@wilf Brim
Cost of a good gaming computer x amount more powerfull then a 360: 700 - 800 bucks
Cost of a nice LCD: 200 bucks
Amount of things you can do on a computer? infinite
Plus Keyboard & Mouse > controller - homer4199, on 10/11/2007, -8/+3I'd feel the same way but its not enough to make me buy a 360. Sure do hope it comes out for PC.
- Soothsayer1, on 10/11/2007, -5/+0Can't wait till it comes to Usenet.
Gotta get some more Verbatims.. - Cain141, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2I'm pretty sure it comes out in september... (Unless they push it back)
- MosaicM, on 10/11/2007, -10/+2I sure hope microsoft will lower the price of the 360 soon. I want to play this sooo bad but I don't have a 360 yet. And $400 is mighty pricey.
- pfdogs, on 10/11/2007, -14/+1LOL
- modifiedbears, on 10/11/2007, -14/+1This is spam and doesn't offer anything new.
- Izacus, on 10/11/2007, -16/+1"For Mass Effect, you now chose between different emotional tones (mean or kind, for example) instead of the variety of written dialogue choices. "
Hmm... so how will I know, what will my char actually say when I choose one of those choices?
"For Mass Effect, BioWare has seamlessly blended their traditional turn based combat mechanics with real time third person shooter action producing an experience that should appeal to fans of both tactical shooters and RPGs alike."
URG? Why did I get a REALLY bad feeling about this... is BioWare also starting to throw out dumbed down games for general public? - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -35/+6Consoles are for n00bs and children. PC gaming is where it's at.
