- EvilCan, on 02/26/2008, -2/+69Confusing description....comments are enabled on Major Nelson's blog. They just take a few minutes to get posted.
- totorototoro, on 12/30/2007, -13/+78Why was Engadget the only major tech blog to cover this story? (They were on the original flakiness back during Christmas, and have been tracking it since). Xbox360Fanboy, Joystiq, and Kotaku didn't say ***** about it.
I mean, wtf? You have a blog called Xbox360Fanboy, and you don't even keep track of XboxLive status? - zweben, on 12/30/2007, -2/+47"Server is too busy."
That update seems a little sparse on the details. - computerdude103, on 12/30/2007, -2/+41Hopefully they actually get to the root of the prolem this time (and add about a thousand more servers)
- hellbent187, on 12/30/2007, -2/+40"While the service was never completely offline, problems like this are not acceptable." Thank you. My dashboard was doing some wacky stuff.
- ScionX, on 12/30/2007, -10/+47Yea, XBL is horrible because it's down a few days out of about 5 yrs....
/sarcasm - samadam, on 12/30/2007, -6/+41"can't do anything"?
Uh, you could hang out with your friends. Go to a movie. Play some football in the yard. Drink.
If the availability of xbox live governs your enjoyment you may have bigger problems do deal with. - rellik12, on 12/30/2007, -9/+43Quite frankly this is poor form. I pay £40 a year for a service that used to be included in the purchase price of my (PC) games. Fine, as long as it works. To have such a poor service during the ONE time of year I'm at home is just awful. My subscription was up in November - I renewed and two days later got the RROD - I only received it back just before Christmas only for the service to turn to crap.
Thanks Microsoft. - sinizuh, on 12/30/2007, -3/+35Exactly. Since Xbox live is offline, I got a bunch of friends together, got drunk, played football in the yard and filmed it to watch it later. But it got uncomfortable seeing us roll around on top of each other, so we all rushed to the 360 to play some halo 3. LIKE REAL MEN!
- chaosdude78, on 12/30/2007, -9/+34It appears that Xbox Live servers aren't the only flaky ones connected to Microsoft.
- Dethblow, on 12/30/2007, -3/+27Major Nelson is just Microsoft's pawn. Yes, XBox Live is having some problems. Should PAYING subscribers be compensated? Hell, YES. If my cable was down for days, I would get a credit to my account. If I couldn't use my cellphone for days, I would also be compensated. And to you Live users that aren't having any problems, you are lucky, because everyone on my friends list is.
- loitus, on 12/30/2007, -2/+20http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/12/30/xbox-live- ...
Odd, they did report it. Hmm. - Dylson, on 12/30/2007, -4/+22Mirror?
- schoate09, on 12/30/2007, -5/+23And what does Playstation Home do to solve this? Nothing. You sound like a Sony fanboy who actually doesn't own a 360, and is jumping at every excuse to justify the purchase of his $600 folding machine.
PSH does nothing to solve this. It's nothing more than a second-lifeish way to organize the online interface. (Who prefers that over 360's nice menu system, I'll never know.). Home has nothing to do with uptime, and I've seen PSN go down plenty of times, with the whole sign in 20169 or whatever it is error. Stop citing Home as the be all end all of online gaming, especially in a 360 thread, where you know the only purpose is to sound like a ***** tool. Home does NOTHING to solve downtime problems, and it's feasable that Sony may see unforseen errors when they launch the service public. - justjoehere, on 12/30/2007, -7/+24His site won't load. I'm guessing by the comments that he is hosted by the same servers as Live.
- ScionX, on 12/30/2007, -1/+17"no thanks,i'll live life not attached to a pc or console"
Says the guy who's watching his thread for responses. - fugazi, on 12/30/2007, -2/+16And engadget...?
- whahaa, on 12/30/2007, -1/+15you've got a room full of people that consider reading digg comments over your shoulder 'outstanding entertainment'?
lol - nerdtalker, on 12/30/2007, -1/+14I find it incredibly ironic that right now the entire majornelson site resolves to: "Server is too busy"
Apparently capacity problems come in pairs now. - dumky, on 12/30/2007, -0/+13Here's what I got from Bloglines' feed cache:
Xbox LIVE Status
Sun, Dec 30 2007 5:10 AM by Major Nelson
You may have noticed that the LIVE service has been having a few issues over the past few days. This includes things like signing in, matchmaking and account recovery. Not everyone has had problems, but I know some of you have and I wanted to give you and update. While the service was never completely offline, problems like this are not acceptable. The entire LIVE team has been working day and night to ensure that you can have a great LIVE experience. While we’re not done yet, I wanted to let you know that things are getting better each hour and that no one on the team is going anywhere until the job is done. Thanks for your patience. - Forum, on 12/30/2007, -2/+15That man has a serious Twitter addiction.
- CarzorStelatis, on 12/30/2007, -3/+16People who aren't already Digg members can't leave comments when Digg's login and registration system isn't working, does that mean that Digg "doesn't allow comments"?
- VPurpmalkV, on 12/30/2007, -2/+14Just as an addition to my comment. 3 years of Xbox = 1095 days. We'll estimate that live has been down for maybe a full 14 days since then. so that's 1081 days of up time, which is 1.009% downtime. I'd say that's an acceptable amount of downtime for a service that only costs $50 a year.
- LanceUppercut, on 12/30/2007, -0/+12What?... It looks like one of youtube's stereotypical commenters found their way to digg.
- sum33t, on 12/30/2007, -0/+11Please play in traffic
- epj3, on 12/30/2007, -22/+33I've been sick of this stuff. I have VERY little time to play my xbox between working insane hours and then classes on top of it. Every damn time I actually have time to play, it's down! I can't justify $50 for something that never works when I'm around!!! A few friends and I are considering going BACK to PC gaming...
- jamminman, on 12/30/2007, -0/+11Welcome to the internet, learn how to flame.
- schoate09, on 12/30/2007, -5/+15Xbox360Fanboy has been slacking lately. They update the fewest of all Joystiq's fanboy sites.
- sesstreets, on 12/30/2007, -3/+13Wasn't he talking about how not having enough server power can bring a service to its knees? You'd think he'd listen to his own advice.
- JudgeMonkey, on 12/30/2007, -1/+11Someone needs to get Sony started on home.
- wilf_brim, on 12/30/2007, -4/+13Why are people trying to bury this comment? This is right on the money. He is paying $50 a year for a service. That isn't cheap. He should be able to access it when he wants. Look: if you were to go back to PC gaming, you and 20 friends could get together and rent a server or two for gaming for that kind of money.
- inactive, on 12/30/2007, -0/+9No, thats actually about right.
- VPurpmalkV, on 12/30/2007, -0/+9So it's not just 1 person who has nothing to do but argue on the Internet. It's a room full of people, watching 1 person that likes to argue on the Internet. I'll rely on the age old fall back. Winning an Argument on the Internet is like winning the Special Olympics. You may have won, but you're still retarded.
- sesstreets, on 12/30/2007, -3/+11Shut up sheep.
- Lkr721993, on 12/30/2007, -0/+8He says Live is up, but CoD4 nor Halo 3 will work...hmm
- Hoogs, on 12/30/2007, -0/+8"You may have noticed that the LIVE service has been having a few issues over the past few days. This includes things like signing in, matchmaking and account recovery. - GamerVer05, on 12/30/2007, -4/+12And PSN provides a cohesive service on which you play games buy games, movies, music and all that stuff or are you blinded by fanboyism?
- mik3pass, on 12/30/2007, -0/+8£40?! That's $79.84 USD!
We only pay $50.00, and the service is still *****... but to pay TWICE as much for it?
That's ridiculous! - SpongeBad, on 12/30/2007, -0/+8"microsoft will compensate" Funniest thing I've read on DIGG all day!
- inactive, on 12/30/2007, -3/+11I never had any problems, but I'll take that free week as Engadget suggested =)
- luchid, on 12/30/2007, -2/+10Thank god I'm not your employer...
- luchid, on 12/30/2007, -0/+8Then why do you feel compelled to go to Digg, browse the gaming section, open up a story and comment about it?
- litheon, on 12/31/2007, -0/+8Just to elaborate a bit, we've had anonymous comments disabled on the site for about a week now due to the influx of lame comments along the lines of "OMG LIEVS BORKED FIX NOW PLZ KTHX". Generally anonymous comments are enabled until we start attracting the kind of comments that add absolutley no constructive value. Anybody can register for a gamertag online by signing into Xbox.com with a Windows Live ID that doesn't have an associated gamertag, and subsequently create an account using http://www.majornelson.com/CreateUser.aspx.
- inactive, on 12/30/2007, -0/+7Hurry up.
- Flinty, on 12/30/2007, -0/+7Wha? There is no update.
- boombye, on 12/30/2007, -0/+7Go watch the game instead of crying and bitching about having friends with you, nobody cares that you need to feel validated. Stop announcing ***** like it's your first time being around people during a Football game, you should put the laptop away too you dork, save that ***** for after the game or when you go home. If you're socially interacting, leave the laptop at home nerd. Seriously who the ***** wants to sit next to you saying "hey dude look at this response I got from this dude talking ***** online".. Think about that for a while, you're making yourself look sorry in front of your friends, well unless they're just as sorry as you.
- inactive, on 12/30/2007, -0/+7why, why would he?
- whahaa, on 12/30/2007, -1/+8lmao
thanks for that, dugg - stark23x, on 12/30/2007, -2/+9But if you don't already have a Live account, the outage doesn't affect you so why would you be complaining?
- luchid, on 12/30/2007, -1/+7Uhm... I dunno? Maybe people who paid for it and are not getting the service they paid for? As much as I like Xbox Live, I have to admit this is a pretty serious *****, considering there's tons of people with a few days off wanting to enjoy the service.
