- ELCad, on 01/16/2008, -4/+30That guy from I Dream of Jeanie? I don't remember him being in the Goldeneye movie.
- verbose, on 01/16/2008, -0/+14Duh, it's a typo. He meant top ass.
;-) - Planets, on 01/16/2008, -2/+15Took me a while to figure out what "topass" was...
- reddevil3, on 01/16/2008, -2/+15Goldeneye (the great and very popular N64 game) was supposed to be released (upgraded version) on Xbox Live. It was quite far into production but MS had to work with Nintendo on some licensing issues due to it being a previous Nintendo game or something. But Nintendo apparently screwed up and didn't want an old game of theirs to appear on a competitor's console. So...the game had to be scrapped, and people were furious.
- spammishking, on 01/16/2008, -1/+11"We don't comment on rumours and speculation," a Microsoft spokesperson shockingly declared this morning.
shockingly??? - StultusJuventus, on 01/16/2008, -0/+10Could someone reply and explain what these Goldeneye emails would be about?
- j4200, on 01/16/2008, -0/+8They were a 2nd party Nintendo developer, meaning they were working in tandem with people from Nintendo. They were Nintendo's dream team and consulted with them endlessly. Nintendo is the publisher of course, but they also owned 49% of Rare and acquired the James Bond license to begin with. (Not the license to kill, could you imagine if Nintendo acquired that?!) You might also noticed that I mentioned they did it partnered with Rare.
Bottom line is Nintendo has rights to it and if MS doesn't want to play then tough. MS can learn to eat what they dish out. - j4200, on 01/16/2008, -1/+8Sources I've been listening to have been saying Nintendo refused a lump sum licence agreement. MS refused to pay a percentage of sales on top of a lump sum. So then Nintendo signed off on a NO decision.
Regardless of the fact that this information could not be accurate, Nintendo isn't a bad guy here. Partnered with Rare, they made a wildly great game on their console (probably the only reason the N64 ship kept sailing), and they have full rights to demand the compensation that they think is fair from Microsoft. Microsoft has been known to be a bully when dealing with negotiations more often than not, yet Nintendo has seen cooperation with many different competitors over and over in it's lifetime. My guess is that Microsoft just doesn't know how to play this game. - Butros, on 01/16/2008, -0/+6You're right, a corporation has no business communicating with its customers!
- j4200, on 01/16/2008, -0/+3Name one of those online petitions that have worked. One.
- jfowler27, on 01/16/2008, -0/+3We could... but I don't feel like putting my pants on today.
- masterc, on 01/16/2008, -2/+5"I will be sure topass" Hehe - top ass...
/4th grade humor - LemonDefragger, on 01/16/2008, -3/+6Couldn't we support some other cause with this fervor? Like something that matters?
- j4200, on 01/16/2008, -0/+3Since goldeneye and perfect dark, Rare is a completely different company. You saw what a mess PDZ was didn't you? And Conquer live and reloaded? Yeah that was no good. If you ask me, Rare doesn't have it in them to do the same magic a third time. They aren't the pioneers they once were. Ahh I still remember the first time I shot a guy's crotch and saw him drop to his knees.
- jfowler27, on 01/16/2008, -0/+2Yeah, ***** a corporation for demanding money! Yeah! (However, I would love to see this on Live.)
- mediaphile, on 01/16/2008, -2/+4Rare created the game, Nintendo was just the publisher.
- Jonmad17, on 01/16/2008, -2/+4Help us Major, and we will forever be thankful.
- vinnyvenus, on 01/16/2008, -0/+2Jericho
- j4200, on 01/16/2008, -0/+2Because clicking the digg button gets things done. It's real support.
- j4200, on 01/16/2008, -0/+2Touche
- TimTheSloth, on 01/16/2008, -2/+3sounds more like Harry Potter.
- WhereAmI, on 01/16/2008, -1/+2Conkers Bad Fur Day made it. They don't want a popular N64 game on a competitors console.
- brownspank, on 01/16/2008, -0/+1Wow, 4 levels down and the discussion's still grown up. Diggs to all of you.
- markwilcox, on 01/16/2008, -0/+1GoldenEye would own on the 360, the Wii, not so much.
- freehunter, on 01/16/2008, -1/+2I've been saying for quite some time now, I would pay full price for a remake of Perfect Dark on the 360, with 360 controls. It's better than most of the crap they're putting out today, and those two were amazing games. You don't have to be a sucker to appreciate a classic on a system that has a modern control scheme and is easy to find in stores or your living room (and you don't have to be a sucker to use grammar and spelling, either.)
- j4200, on 01/16/2008, -0/+1Are you saying Major Nelson is vulnerable to headshots without any effort?
- DarkNemesis618, on 01/16/2008, -0/+1I guess its a step in the right direction
- tdous, on 01/16/2008, -0/+1Well it's Eurogamer and while, to be totally honest, I've never read their site but if the rest of their content is as bad as what comes out of the prick who writes, hosts and produces their video podcast, I'm not missing much. Feel free to let me know otherwise.
- Magee1205, on 01/16/2008, -2/+2This could be one of the best xbox live arcade games to date. Make it happen M$.
- goodgame, on 01/16/2008, -3/+3I was looking forward to goldeneye.
- L337Masta, on 01/16/2008, -0/+0Well I hope that this goes through. It would be great to see other great classics like the old Perfect Dark brought back in an updated form.
- j4200, on 01/16/2008, -2/+2Thats a problem here too. Branding. Goldeneye is ingrained in people's mind's as a piece of Nintendo history. They may be afraid that the ignorant twads on live will begin to do the MS chant singing praise of their Goldeneye accomplishments. You know, as if MS had anything to do with it.
- bjbisinger, on 01/16/2008, -0/+0Doesn't hurt to try
- mjpanzer, on 01/16/2008, -10/+8Next 007 Movie Title: James Bond and the Red Rings of Death
- cambob76, on 01/16/2008, -3/+1Yes it was a typo. He meant, "I will be sure to delete them."
- biliabong6, on 01/16/2008, -3/+1Nintendo complained because Rare replaced Oddjob with Major Nelson.
- j4200, on 01/16/2008, -7/+2It's been out for years! Nothing to look forward too. A re release isn't a new game. Good job being a sucker.
- bjbisinger, on 01/16/2008, -7/+1Sign the petition to bring this game to XBLA. Greatest game ever.
http://www.petitiononline.com/rare007/petition.htm ... - DefaultGen, on 01/16/2008, -8/+1Hold on, i'm going to start a petitiononline petition guys.
- analogtyler, on 01/16/2008, -15/+5I am sick and tired of this "Major Nelson" character being used as Microsoft's marketing puppet.
- markwilcox, on 01/16/2008, -16/+3***** NINTENDO
- Christbait, on 01/16/2008, -25/+4A belated F U to those who doubted they'd give any response.. this is a positive step, the legal stuff is too damn complicated though.
