Gamers KNOW Valve is going to keep their games fresh without hurting their wallet. Sure, in a way, you can chalk it up to marketing, but it works because they have THE best reputation in the gaming industry.

Also, CoD4 is good, sure. I'd even say it's very good. But it doesn't even come close to holding a candle to the games Valve has released, neither in SinglePlayer nor in Multiplayer prowess.
