- Shawn4168, on 10/24/2007, -4/+94I'm not a Halo fanboy by any means, but I love Bungie for stuff like this. They're one of the only companies who have the balls to come right out and say how they feel about something, kinda like how they responded to the whole Halo 3 resolution freakout a few weeks back.
- navster15, on 10/23/2007, -2/+60It's good to see Bungie do a little housecleaning. However, I personally haven't come across any flamboyant cheaters. Perhaps they are more subtle now?
I do give Bungie props for maintaining a very civilized online community in Halo 3 compared to its predecessor. The ***** button and Live feedback system has gone a long way in improving the play experience. - TheFinaleofSeem, on 10/27/2007, -0/+51Your troll-fu is weak.
- knodi, on 10/23/2007, -2/+42I love how they said it:
"There are those of you doing things you shouldn't be in Halo 3. Some of you have gotten a little too famous for your own good. This ain't a church and there is no redemption or salvation once you have been judged. Apologies are now officially too late to save you."
Haha part of that sounds like Gravemind is saying it. - inactive, on 10/23/2007, -7/+46Steam does a damn good job at deterring cheaters from its servers. Bungie isn't the only one.
- Billiam627, on 10/23/2007, -5/+43Bungie: The cure for the common XBL douche bag
- Buckiller, on 10/23/2007, -4/+37hahaha... EA...
- afruff23, on 10/23/2007, -3/+35Poor Gilbert Arenas. :(
- inactive, on 10/23/2007, -1/+28I am really glad about the Theater Now if you see someone cheating you can save the film and send it to Bungie.
- Rikushix, on 10/23/2007, -0/+25I had a sudden image of a Bungie dev team employee swinging a huge gravity hammer and knocking a group of cheaters thirty or forty feet into the air.
- Thater, on 10/23/2007, -1/+23Who gives a *****? cheating on single player games doesn't matter.
- UwasaWaya, on 10/23/2007, -1/+23It's hard to 'fix flaws in their own game' when people use things like multiple accounts or stand by cheating. They can't force the player to not unplug their modem or stop them from signing up for two XBL accounts.
Stop acting so damned elite. It's a game. - darkNiGHTS, on 10/23/2007, -1/+21Go die in a fire.
- Sozin, on 10/23/2007, -3/+22Thank god killing yourself in a game doesn't get you a negative score anymore.
De-levelers were/are the worst thing about Halo 2. - Damian91, on 10/23/2007, -0/+19/me waits for cheaters to whine when banned.
- Godlesswanderer, on 10/23/2007, -0/+19Cheaters whining on their blogs in 3... 2... 1...
- Morphine7399, on 10/24/2007, -12/+30This is one of the reasons I stopped playing PC games a few years ago. There was always some ass running an aim bot, wall hack, or whatever. Sure there are systems such as punk buster but it doesn't compare with the live task force set to eliminate these cheaters and keep them off the service. I personally don't understand cheating in halo 3 what-so-ever. Unlike in h2 it's not very hard for a skilled player to make it all the way to level 50, cheating isn't even necessary.
- DCJoeDogaswell, on 10/23/2007, -1/+19when you pull the finger out of your own ass...how does it smell?
I ask because this must be the same smell you have kissing sony's ass all the time. - inactive, on 10/23/2007, -1/+18thank god, i thought i was going to get banned for swearing at 11 year old kids
- pastasauce, on 10/23/2007, -0/+16 I play a lot of Counter-Strike: Source. A lot of times it's just some guy who got bored of the game and decided to use hacks to make it fun again. Not the game play, but the reactions from the players. I guess it's the same mentality of people who like to ruin Harry Potter books to see grown adults in wizard costumes cry.
- UwasaWaya, on 10/24/2007, -0/+14I think you should get a medal for that...
Sweartacular FTW - posure, on 10/23/2007, -1/+15I disagree, Steam doesn't do a good job at deterring cheaters. Its better than it was without the permanent ban, but cheaters are always one step ahead of Steam. Start playing leagues or scrimmages and you'll see them on a regular basis.
- bjs3171, on 10/23/2007, -0/+14causing other players to lag while you go around and kill everyone lag free is not being a "better gamer". it's being a "little bitch".
- afruff23, on 10/23/2007, -5/+17In BF2, I have yet to come across a cheater. I have played for over a year and the servers use punkbuster.
Before that, I played Halo 2. Playing ranked games was painful once you got to around level 28. Every single game was full of modders. Call me ungrateful, but they should have implemented the "banhammer" sooner in Halo 2. It lost a lot of its replay value because of all the cheating. Not to mention, halo 2 was the only reason I got live. - Whaines, on 10/23/2007, -0/+12You're penalized by being dead and out of the fight for a longer period than normal. Point loss would bring about delevelers more frequently. This is a much better solution.
- DCJoeDogaswell, on 10/23/2007, -2/+13Time to break out the Trace Buster Buster Buster
- inactive, on 10/23/2007, -1/+12As someone who played Halo 2 and got my level 40 LEGIT, this is good to hear. I got cheated so many times on my way to that that I would probably be a 50 without it. Bungie didn't seem to give a damn about standbying/modding in H2, and I think they know that if it starts up again in H3 that the fanbase will leave. While I'm skeptical that they'll truly be able to take as much action as I, or any other gamer would like, it is good to at least hear them acknowledge the problem. Ban cheaters' MAC addresses and kick them off for good, for Christ's sake.
- Ipag, on 10/23/2007, -0/+10It's about time! I wonder how many Generals are going to be banned now?
- joegibes, on 10/23/2007, -0/+10...grown adults in wizard costumes were crying already.
- AlmostEvil, on 10/23/2007, -0/+10Not to sound trollish, but what servers did you play on with BF2?
About once a week i'd see a cheater, for example somebody using a commander hack to give themself ammo crates, or drop lots of jeeps etc.
Thankfully i've never seen the level of cheating that occured in the original counter-strike online in another game yet. - darkNiGHTS, on 10/23/2007, -0/+9In the most lighthearted way possible of course.
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 10/23/2007, -5/+13Blizzard.
- Shaflugi, on 10/23/2007, -0/+8I see cheaters on VAC secured CS:S servers constantly.
- Sornos, on 10/23/2007, -0/+8We are a monument to all your sins.
- 77boy84, on 10/23/2007, -4/+12Macs aren't computers.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/23/2007, -2/+10Also the greatest attractor.
- xXGeechXx, on 10/23/2007, -1/+8I personally haven't run into any cheaters but I'm glad to see that these cheaters won't be sticking around long.
- urbanclock, on 12/08/2008, -0/+7How else would they fix jackass cheaters? its not exactly a software issue...
- FishHammer, on 10/23/2007, -0/+7I wish other companies had this much deserved hatred for these kind of players. Blizzard and Valve seem to be trying, but it's not quite hard enough.
- minitrollster, on 10/23/2007, -1/+8What?
- david5t, on 10/23/2007, -0/+7Uhhhhh.... Bungie separated from Microsoft recently. Do you guys read Digg or any other gaming website for that matter? :D
- CraigJ, on 10/23/2007, -1/+8which would be pretty easy right about now.
- mtekk, on 10/23/2007, -0/+6So how many clans have baned you from their servers?
- Deval, on 10/23/2007, -0/+6As someone who was on the receiving end of Halo 2 games which people cheated, or level-downed, etc. basically doing ***** which ruined the game, I applaud them for this. I gave up playing on Live after almost 900 games played (according to bungie.net), simply because the cheaters and whiny ***** 10 year olds got too annoying.
- shortarabguy, on 10/23/2007, -0/+6Why? Is the game that much more fun when nothing catches you by surprise anymore? Some of the fun in playing Halo 3 is somehow making it out of a fight alive and thinking aloud "how did that happen?!" I can't really see any point in cheating unless you bet on yourself winning, but that's... well, impossible.
- Jordan117, on 10/23/2007, -0/+5Since EXP doesn't factor into the Matchmaking system, it can't negatively affect the gameplay experience of others. It's merely a reflection of how many games the person has played, and artificially inflating it, while petty and stupid, isn't technically cheating.
- jgtg32a, on 10/23/2007, -0/+5Oh God yeah, I don't do anything wrong and I think that they are going to ban me all the time.
- agdtinman, on 10/23/2007, -1/+5This definitely will mark the return of the Waaaaaambulance once the cheaters who are banned start crying about it on every forum that will listen.
- chris9902, on 10/23/2007, -1/+5Those new after game tools must make it really easy to spot cheaters.
- Icyfenix, on 10/23/2007, -1/+5everyone cheats at half life. Spawning thousands of antlions for the win!!!
