Network engineers at Microsoft test these routers rigorously to ensure that they can support up to four simultaneously connected Xbox 360 consoles, will have an "Open" NAT (meaning they will add translations to the NAT address table without a connection being explicitly established), and usually have built-in support for UPnP along with the streaming protocols the Xbox 360 console uses for to receive media from a client computer.
If you're picking a router explicitly for Xbox Live, get one that's Xbox Live Compatible, supports (custom) QoS so you can ensure your connection to Live is great even when other people are using the connection, and if you're thinking about going wireless get one that supports 802.11a so you can minimize interference from cordless phones (unless of course you've got phones that operate on the 5Ghz range). - minoss, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3Doesn't it use UPnP?
- Kratos76, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2It would be horribly ***** for microsoft or Anyone to expect average joe consumer to buy their brand new 360, get home, log in to their router and set up some port forwarding. I'm sure the 90% of people who don't do this aren't having a problem, and MS realizes this.
