- xprojects, on 01/18/2009, -3/+62How about instead, we say "***** the guide," then just go buy an ethernet to wireless bridge on sale for $30-40 and save the headache of following stupid tutorials that aren't necessary?
Here's one I found for $30:

- A11YND, on 01/18/2009, -6/+311) laptop
2) plug xbox Ethernet cable into laptop
3) Bridge Connection
4) ????
5) Profit! - Azerael, on 01/18/2009, -11/+27Does it make me a fanboy to say the PS2 was the best console of the last generation? No, because its bleedingly obvious to pretty much everyone who isn't wearing a corporate badge on their chest. Same goes for the 360. It's the best console of this generation. That doesn't mean Microsoft wins at everything forever, it just means they have the console most worth having, at this point at time. Take off the Sony colored glasses and chill out.
- FlyingCaveman, on 01/18/2009, -3/+17I don't have an Xbox, Dugg for getting out of paying Microsoft $70.00 on a part that costs $5.00 to make.
- doctordbx, on 01/18/2009, -0/+12I use a WRT54GL with DD-WRT. The advantage is not only do you get your wireless network on the PC, but it works with other things you might have as well, such as a HTPC. What's the advantage? Well, you can stream directly over ethernet between your XBox 360 and HTPC with 100 Mbs performance rather than worrying about shaky wireless performance.
This is hardly new though, I set this up 2 years ago. - ShoeSh1ne, on 01/18/2009, -1/+12Buried for blatant fanboyism.
- mr138, on 01/18/2009, -6/+17Guys I just heard the 360 is the best console you can buy, pass it on.
- Dgen_X, on 01/18/2009, -4/+15I had absolutely no problem drilling through the floor and running a network cable over to my entertainment center through the basement. No problem with connection issues...and $16 worth of cable is much better than any wireless adapter.
Now if I didn't have a basement it would be a different story...I would likely decide against entering into some crawlspace to run cable... - blapierre, on 01/18/2009, -1/+7You forgot what the word "arbitrary" means.
- neuber, on 01/18/2009, -1/+6For mentioning anything with mac
- djpray2k, on 01/18/2009, -1/+6Yeah that part did sound a tad wanky.
- poordavey, on 01/18/2009, -1/+6Not sure why you're being dugg down....It works fine, just like any other laptop being used as a bridge.
- reyoo30309, on 01/18/2009, -0/+5I rather do the free one.
- doctordbx, on 01/18/2009, -0/+4It's a great place to have it. Unfortunately, when I got my apartment the ***** wired in the ethernet connection on the wrong side of the room, and I was left with little choice between run a cable or use a wireless bridge. The alternative was to pay them $150 to come and move the point.
The wireless bridge DDWRT option stood out not just because it was cheap, but because of the flexibility and geek appeal. - SeaICIubber, on 01/18/2009, -0/+4No you're not. I prefer wired connections for gaming. I'm a latency whore!
- proliance, on 01/18/2009, -0/+4I bought a 360 two years ago just so I could use it as a media center extender. (And gave it to the kids as a Christmas present. Twice the fun!) I ran Cat 5 under carpet, around corners and down the baseboard of the staircase because I have experience running cable and because I was too cheap to buy the wireless dongle.
A year later I dumped the cable company, installed a good antenna outside, replaced my tuner card in my pc with a new one that has digital/hd capabilites and I now can watch programs that I recorded in HD, or pause live TV like an expensive TIVO or DVR. No monthly fees.
The only downer is that I bought it before the 360 came with HDMI so I have to use component cables.
Anywho, I wouldn't have these capabilities using wireless. Don't know if upgrading to wireless N would help, or even if that's possible with the 360. - LemonChicken, on 01/19/2009, -1/+5My dad can beat up your dad.
- krasht, on 01/18/2009, -0/+4Just a simple traceroute test to my router.
Traceroute wireless (g) about 15m (49ft):
1 www.routerlogin.com (192.168.0.1) 1.368 ms 0.982 ms 1.117 ms
Traceroute Wired on a 1m ethernet cable:
1 www.routerlogin.com (192.168.0.1) 1.046 ms 0.610 ms 0.705 ms
Don't know about you, but I don't think the difference is going to ruin someones gaming abilities be it LAN or WAN - FFXIfrohike, on 01/21/2009, -0/+3Whatever. Digg me down. I'm right, you're wrong. Just go ahead and try downloading a demo. Go on...
- Azerael, on 01/18/2009, -5/+8The best consoles in history have been the ones with the most great games. The old Xbox had some good games, the Gamecube had some good games, but the PS2 had the blockbusters, and lots of them. At this point in time the 360 is the PS2 of this generation, it has more great games than the PS3 and Wii combined. It doesn't have the sales of the Wii, but is anyone except grandma going to honestly tell you the Wii is the best console of the generation? Nope.
- reyoo30309, on 01/18/2009, -0/+3You can buy a pc for under 30 dollars?
- ZeroDarkness, on 01/18/2009, -4/+7eh, we'll agree to disagree, Azerael. With just a few exceptions, most of the games I thought were great were all cross-platform games. Beyond that, it's about even. Metal Gear 4 was pretty damn good. Halo 3 was pretty good too. I can go tit for tat with pretty even numbers at the end. Of course, it's all limited to my own personal experiences. I'm planning on getting Star Ocean:last hope for 360, and gonna get final fantasy XIII and XIII versus for ps3. Gears of war 2 was pretty cool, so was little big planet. Perhaps I'm in the minority that finds them even in terms of games. Either way, I'm not going to argue one consoles superiority over another. I'm a hard core gamer who goes where the games take me. If it goes to the 360, that's fine. If it goes to the PS3, that's fine to.
- alsouno, on 02/04/2009, -0/+3I don't think it's necessarily a 'fanboy' remark. Realistically, based on the price, game library and online play, the 360 is clearly the best console to buy right now.
I'm sure once Sony finally decides to do a price drop, things will change, especially considering the exclusive games they still have planned -- but until that happens, I'd have to agree with the statement. No fanboying intended. - RandaII, on 01/18/2009, -10/+13buried for best console you can buy. Stupid fanboys.
- inactive, on 01/18/2009, -2/+5Wireless latency = not good for gaming
- TVarmy, on 01/18/2009, -0/+3What's cool is that you have all the other features of DD-WRT, too. Like QOS if your HTPC likes to download torrents while you game, and you don't want any lag.
- FFXIfrohike, on 01/18/2009, -0/+3sounds like a WET11... not exactly WPA security...
- StANTo, on 01/18/2009, -1/+3Further more they state that setting up the internet access 'sharing' in Windows is difficult; all you have to do is bridge the two connections together (unless the 'net access is directly connected, which even in this scenario they give, it isn't).
- doctordbx, on 01/19/2009, -0/+2My HTPC very much likes to download lots of torrents :-)
- levyjl1988, on 01/18/2009, -1/+3Or for better connection, just stick a Ethernet cable from your 360 to a modem and bam, easier, direct to console.
- Ericdigital, on 01/18/2009, -9/+11The only console I own is a 360 and I still think he was ***** retarded for claiming such a bold statement.
- NCg8r, on 01/18/2009, -1/+3Because you don't see people saying "I use my Windows-brand notebook to bridge". They say "I use my laptop/notebook".
- harris2004, on 01/18/2009, -0/+2Worked for me...I put DD-WRT on a Link Wrt54G
- reyoo30309, on 01/18/2009, -0/+2And the DS begins to cry...
again... - JRowe3388, on 01/18/2009, -1/+3This is what I do. ***** Microsoft's outrageously priced dongle.
- dandonia, on 01/18/2009, -5/+7No it doesn't make you a fanboy but it doesn't make your statement true either. Name one cross platform game that was better on the PS2? Sales do not = greater machine. They both had their perks - PS2 more exclusives, xbox better cross platform support, PS2 didn't need an accessory to play DVD's or a subscription to play games online, xbox had a built in hard drive and eventually xbmc.
There were clear cut differences between them and that lead to personal preference of which was better. The 360 and PS3 have differences but they are so one sided that to call the 360 better would be a complete misrepresentation of the truth.
As for Azerael's idiotic rambelling about great games. Go look at the ign overall game awards and readers choice awards and see how well the 360 did in comparison to the PS3 last year. Then go look at metacritic and check these stats out
--------------------------------
Number of exclusives in the top 5:
360 = 0
PS3 = 2
--------------------------------
Number of games from ____ in the top 5:
2006 360 = 2 PS3 = 0
2007 360 = 2 PS3 = 1
2008 360 = 1 PS3 = 4
--------------------------------
Number of games requiring a gaming subscription to play huge portions of the game in the top 10:
360 = 6
PS3 = 0
(you have to remember there are 10 million 360's without xbox live accounts and millions more with only a silver account - what good is Halo 3, Orange Box or CODIV to them?)
---------------------------------
What more - the PS3 has a lot more uses to 360. Bluray, linux, karioki, internet browsing, etc- it also has better hardware - quieter, wireless, standards based instead of proprietry, no power brick, hdd's in every machine, etc.
Use logic to show which is the better machine people. It's one thing to say you prefer the 360 because you love halo and never need another game. That's cool - to be honest for the first 5 years of the PS2 the only games I bought were FIFA and Smackdown - so at that point the PS2 was the best console for me. But to say it was the best console in general is just ridiculas. With in a month of getting the xbox my games libary was bigger than my PS2 library. I wouldn't play Tiger Woods or Splinter Cell on the PS2 - they looked poor and the pads just weren't meant for those games. I still wish they had changed the sticks for the PS3 pads. Anyhow the point is them blatently saying that the 360 is best console you can buy is factually incorrect. You can't give reasons for why it is better just excuses as to why the 360 doesn't have some of the features.
If you don't want bluray it doesn't mean DVD's are better. It just means you prefer lower quality. Just like if you don't like motion control it doesn't make the PS2 pad better than the PS3 pad. - eclipse6248, on 01/18/2009, -4/+6Yea... We knew about this a couple years ago. Keep in mind if you plan on using your xbox to stream High Def content, then you're going to probably need to go with a wired ethernet connection. 1080p movies over Wireless G just doesn't work.
- theaceoffire, on 01/18/2009, -2/+4Same as ZeroD, I feel that the 360 is far from the best.
Profit wise, the Wii and PS2 kick ass, and if we are going by hardwear quality then the PS3 far outstrips it... As far as exclusive games, most come out for PS3 or PC as well.
They gimped the storage on the disk and removed the hard drive to try and reduce cost/heat problems, so that they could get to the market first... and created the Console with the largest failure rate in recent history in the process.
I am not going to try and argue that the 360 sucks (Cause it doesn't, has Live and awesome games), but claiming it is the best console is just flame-bait for the fan-boys. - heavystone, on 01/19/2009, -0/+1For some reason I read the title as "How To Add Wii Fit To Your...."
- TVarmy, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1It's a great solution if you have that router lying around. Plus, DD-WRT isn't too hard to install. I think it might be possible to use it as a repeater and a bridge at the same time, so you get more range and internet for your Xbox.
- ATUnderdogK, on 01/19/2009, -0/+1I have been waiting to get a Wireless adapter for some time now. I kept putting it off and I come here tonight and voila, you saved me 100 bucks.
Amazing - Noobcamper, on 01/19/2009, -1/+2Oh yea, well my Xbox 360 has more of the games I want to play. MY PS3 sits on my shelf beside my Wii and gets used slightly more then the wii, however that is only for movies.
As far as a Game Console the Xbox 360 is the best console you can buy.
The PS3 may be a better movie player then the 360 (Its close even in that respect as I can just rent my movies over Xbox Live in HD and not have to Spend 40 bucks on a movie ill probably only watch once, and if I do want to buy a movie, I can just buy it on DVD and let the Xbox 360 Upscale it which is just fine for me) - CoD4, on 01/19/2009, -0/+1i have a 50 feet ecable running from the attic to the basement right next to the tv
- Med_Dude, on 02/07/2009, -0/+1How about we do a nice tutorial that covers ALL the options and then show and tell people exactly how to do it?
- Med_Dude, on 02/07/2009, -0/+1This article is good because it covers all the options possbile from hardware to connection sharing... all laid out in a tutorial. Fantastic
- Groovester, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1I have a Linksys bridge that I bought for $20 ages ago and was marketed towards the old Xbox. Not the latest wireless technology but I don't get any lag so I figure why bother?
- Topher06, on 01/19/2009, -1/+2I love the comment:
"The Xbox 360 is the best console you can buy. Except ..." - matt.rubin, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1this works well at college for xbox-live when you need a clean access software or something,
- DarkStar3333, on 01/21/2009, -0/+1Nope. I have a WRT sitting right behind the tv as well. I couldnt deal with running blue cable through my condo.
