- xtremesniper, on 10/10/2007, -21/+254I'm not going to lie. When I first played Halo 3, I definitely noticed jaggies. The game is fun, no doubt there, and I really don't think anyone is going to stop playing just because of this. But it's still something to point out, because essentially what they did was lie. Jaggies on a next-gen game? I thought I had a Xbox 360, not a PS2.
- chocobomog, on 10/10/2007, -41/+244First of all, if the game is fun then most people won't notice or care. That being said, there have been a lot of "mistakes" with Halo 3 that if they happened on any other system would be lambasted by diggers:
1. LE games completely scratched and unplayable
2. Game causes disc-read errors and even RRoD
3. Listed as 1080p on box, Microsoft "lies" that it is 720p, and it isn't even "HD" resolutions (640p)
Considering how many negative articles there are when other games are discovered to be 720p instead of 1080p, I find it odd that most of the people doing the attacking shut up when their own game has similar (or worse) issues. - evozero, on 10/10/2007, -40/+236if *ANY* super hyped ps3 game ran at 640p while it was claimed to run at a higher res, the anti-sony crowd here wouldn't ever forget it, and use it in some heated fanboy argument in an attempt to prove some insignificant point. if it happens to an x360 game though... where's the "outrage"?
- laddr, on 10/10/2007, -7/+174Does this mean they can port it to the Wii now?
kekek - mrfreeziexp, on 10/10/2007, -8/+124I knew when Halo 3 came out it would get blamed for causing RRoDs. It happens every time a big game comes out, people start playing their 360 alot which causes RRoDs, not the game..
- jeremy1967, on 10/10/2007, -42/+132Oh yeah? Well, uh, uh... PS3 has no games and Lair sucks! /sarcasm
- N256, on 10/10/2007, -19/+102A game that is overrated will get overly criticized.
That is the way of the universe. - jeremy1967, on 10/10/2007, -8/+86"I find it odd that most of the people doing the attacking shut up when their own game has similar (or worse) issues."
Odd? Really? Seems very typical to me. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+75As a result of reading that ***** my IQ just dropped 20 points.
- Lane, on 10/10/2007, -17/+87Behold the power of next gen consoles people
- eplawless, on 10/10/2007, -4/+72It's pretty ***** sad when people not only miss the sarcasm, they miss the sarcasm TAG.
- ApokalypseNow, on 10/10/2007, -7/+70In addition, they didn't quite live up to the whole "search for games" bit that they promised.
None of these things is going to keep me from playing though. - idiggitall, on 10/10/2007, -15/+77That's cause it's really Halo 2.

" It's not smart to lie to the consumers that you rely on to support you company." http://digg.com/playstation_3/Rumble_enabled_SIXAX ...
Yes, you wrote that. So why is it OK for Microsoft to mislead their customers? At this point you should stfu and quit posting. - jeremy1967, on 10/10/2007, -5/+59I'm guessing you failed to see the sarcasm tag in my comment.
- xtremesniper, on 10/10/2007, -6/+54Sure AA may take a toll on performance, but this is seriously visible. In other 360 games, there aren't as many jaggies (or they do a better job of hiding them with blurring effects and such). The first thing I did when I started a local multiplayer match to see how the game plays was look up. By doing so, I saw lots of jaggies along the top edge of a nearby building. That's the only reason why people actually bothered to count the pixels... because somebody noticed them.
- incredibilistic, on 10/10/2007, -5/+46While I'm sure all those (including myself) that don't own an HDTV are okay with a lower resolution, those that spent $1,000+ for an HDTV are not happy.
And, if the box says one thing but doesn't deliver that's enough to piss anybody off. Just imagine if saw a price on a game for $20 bucks, thinking you were getting a great deal, only to have it ring up at $60? Not only that but the store isn't willing to honor the price on the box (although it's the law).
Anyway, the point is that a game like Halo should be in HD period. It's also possible since they had to squeeze the special features onto another disc that they didn't have enough room on the standard DVD to allow the game to run in HD. That's only my theory but if correct this would be yet another reason why Sony made the right choice in outfitting the PS3 with a Blu-Ray drive. Expensive or not the investment will soon start paying off in spades over the next 12 months. - eastbeast314, on 10/10/2007, -17/+55With all these terrible problems, I don't understand what's wrong with me.
I keep having fun playing Halo 3. - arctorkogi, on 10/10/2007, -4/+39I was going to say tl;dr, but then i realized you are an idiot and there are so many other reasons to digg you down
- dracflamloc, on 10/10/2007, -2/+34Yes they already admitted that the HDR is why there is no AA. That does not explain the less-than-HD resolution.
- klinsek, on 10/10/2007, -21/+52M$ false advertising? Who would have ever thought?
- eplawless, on 10/10/2007, -9/+39if it really doesn't matter to you, they should have set it up in 480p and upscaled.
- writh3n, on 10/10/2007, -13/+42People who play arena league football are pro football players right?
- incredibilistic, on 10/10/2007, -21/+50That's right. Instead of taking responsibility for your own system you try and change the subject by pissing on a system that's basically in much better place than the 360 was at the same period in its lifecycle.
I would wager you don't own a PS3, which gives you zero reference points based on a system that is better constructed, has a ton of great exclusives on the way, and is basically future proof. Or didn't you hear that despite Paramounts' decision to go with the losing format that Blu-Ray is still going strong and getting more exclusive backers as well as companies that were once HD-DVD only to play on both sides of the fence until the smoke clears leaving on a lower case "b" in its wake. - worldsbestgamer, on 10/10/2007, -6/+34"First of all, if the game is fun then most people won't notice or care."
You must not have met the legions of Wii haters. - incredibilistic, on 10/10/2007, -14/+42True, true.
See here's how it normally works: using Heavenly Sword as an example; most that don't own the PS3 (and some that do also) will talk s*** about the game because the review crews on the web state that it's too short. With Lair insults on deck they pounce on the PS3 for being a waste of time and a crappy system.
Not that any of this really matters. 360 fans will stay true to their system no matter what you throw at them. I do have to at least applaud them for sticking by a system with a 30% + return rate and paying $50 a year that turns their console into a server in order to play online. It takes a special kind of person to be that oblivious. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+28WINNER!
You found the only punctuation in that entire... Bowl of Alpha-Bits? - 1773nium, on 10/10/2007, -18/+44Last night when I played online multiplayer had over 720,000 people playing. I seriously do not think it matters much.
- sagefool1975, on 10/10/2007, -2/+28I'm sure it will be there when this makes it to the main page.
- JasonCox, on 10/10/2007, -37/+62When I get a TV that can support 640p, let alone HD, then I'll care.
- atomicpoet, on 10/10/2007, -15/+39First rule of Digg: never go against the zeitgeist.
- dracflamloc, on 10/10/2007, -8/+32Isn't that also the point of the lowered cost off the Wii? If I paid $60 or more for a game and the price increase was justified by the "increased costs of making a next-gen game" then I damn well expect a next-gen game. Its not like its a huge leap or improvement over past Halo multiplayer experiences. Where is that extra money going?
RIP Bungie. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+27You're so ignorant on this subject I shouldn't even respond...but here's some knowledge.
1. 720p, or any other common mode for that matter, is an x pixels by y pixels measurement. In this case, 720p is 1280x720 with progressive scan (i.e. you get a full frame every refresh rather than half a frame/half the lines like 1080i and other interlaced modes).
2. There's nothing that prevents combining HDR lighting with AA unless your video card or the game rendering engine simply doesn't support it. On the PC, the Valve Source engine supports using both at once using pixel shaders rather than asking your card to do it (which it may or may not handle). Dark Messiah of Might and Magic was doing this last year. http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/dark_messiah_h ... - dracflamloc, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24Takes about 5 minutes, honestly. Snap a pic in a digicam, plug into laptop, count. Its a proven mathematical formula that was used to calculate this and has been confirmed in many test cases on Beyond3d.
- Ashkc88, on 10/10/2007, -3/+26Halo is really really fun to play, but he's right...it's highly overrated. Just like reality TV.
- reed311, on 10/10/2007, -4/+25Sure, any athlete who gets paid to play their sport is a professional.
- TKDEE, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21This may be the most bizarre thing I've ever seen on the internet, and this is the same internet that spawned Goatse and tubgirl!
- BuddyDoQ, on 10/10/2007, -13/+34It's probably due to the High Dynamic Range (HDR) lighting effect, in some engines/cards you need to disable AA in order to achieve a solid frame rate and awesome lighting. I know oblivion on my PC must disable AA to run HDR... maybe it's time that consoles give players the choice as they do on PC. Personally, I've always enjoyed the HDR effect, so a few jaggies don't bother me at all.

Anything between 480 and 720 is considered "enhanced" definition, NOT High Definition. - MaynardJK, on 10/10/2007, -6/+26Your English teacher should be fired.
I would say more, but it isn't nice to make fun of retarded people. - truspector, on 10/10/2007, -6/+26?
- 1773nium, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19Hungary called, they want their dignity back.
- felman87, on 10/10/2007, -5/+23Using Metroid Corruption controls? That would be awesome.
- RobynG7, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Then I suppose Quake 3 must be for 7 year olds like yourself.
- allenmwnc1, on 10/10/2007, -10/+271. Those discs are being replaced.
2. Perhaps true in a small percentage of cases, works fine for me and every singe person I know though. The internet seems to be pretty good at trumping up charges. Vocal minority sort of thing.
3. 1080p on the back of the box means that it is supported not that it is the native resolution of the game, I think you'd be hard pressed to find ANY game on either the PS3 or the 360 that is running natively in 1080p. Why? It is generally a waste of processing power for the ROI.
Bungie responds to the lost 80p:

- tehpwnrate, on 10/10/2007, -10/+26Yeah, but my Xbox 360 doesn't even get warm playing this game. Lag is almost nonexistent. I agree, I don't like that the graphics aren't as good as my PC. But for me, a stable 360 and clean online gameplay come first.
- frygar, on 10/10/2007, -10/+26SSSSH! Don't use facts in your argument, you'll just get dugg down! :(
