- jacksons98, on 10/11/2007, -11/+71With Microsofts record it will probably be added later as a $10 Live microtransaction because thousands will probably buy it.
- asif5th, on 10/11/2007, -5/+52If this actually happens, it's a huge ***** disappointment.
- Sairgem, on 10/11/2007, -7/+31Since when does not having online coop make a game broken? I wouldn't go near a Wii if I were you.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17I dunno about broken, but if they ship it this way, the Halo faithful will be somewhat disappointed.
Co-op is fun. - t.toe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17I seem to recall a "feature" in Halo 2's co-op where, if one player starts lagging behind, the system "warps" them to the player in the lead. Yes, I'm aware this was done during load-times, simply because it was absolutely impossible to keep two of the Halo 2 environments loaded into the X-Box's hardware at a time, but who's to say they couldn't set slightly more arbitrary "warp points" for Halo 3's online co-op?
Certainly they've thought of this, and that's why I don't buy Frank O'Conner's quote in the article. - snapcase, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17I find it rather annoying to say the very least that console developers are now taking up the same bad habits of PC game developers. On many PC games you have the mindset of "we've developed enough, we'll fix the bugs later after launch", when traditionally on console games there was no patching so you had to make damn sure the game was finished before launching. Now with all the major consoles having "live"/online capabilities, they are getting lazy with making sure the game is ready for launch and delaying if necessary, and instead they are now deciding to launch their games unfinished to be patched at a later time. Honestly when this kind of thing happens with either a PC game or console game, I find that I feel a little ripped off when I buy it. When I rush out to a store to buy a game the day it is released only to find out that I'm only getting half of what I payed for, for the few months or more that it will take them to patch it, how can I feel anything BUT ripped off. In my opinion, developers of both PC and console games need to get back into the mindset that they have to finish before the launch even if it means delaying the launch until it's done.
- Baku, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13True, but if I'm honest I'd rather they add it later, and do it right... than rush it and ***** it up.
- Matrix_Prime, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11The Internet.
- doctordbx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Hey, if Apple is allowed to release a telephone drastically short of features, then Bungie is allowed to release a Game missing a couple.
I mean... it's all fixed by a software update right? - Tippis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Whatever happened to the trusty old "You must gather your party before venturing forth" solution?
- estvir, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13> that is who should i put this really ***** stupid
Wow, until you can create a simple, coherent statement I don't think you're in any point to call any one else 'stupid.' - blazerin05, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Whoa there coasters, "BASIC" feature? Do you know anything about game programming? Doing online co-op for as advanced a game as this is far from basic. I'll agree that Bungie should finish this before they release the game, but this can't be from lack of trying on their part.
- sorahn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8the "gears did it so halo can do it" argument is probably the weakest steaming pile of ***** on the internet to date. gears has NOTHING on halo. if you read why it's struggling, you'll understand. You're never more then 20ft from your partner in gears, and the environments are small rooms one after the other that play out like tunnels.
maybe you should do a little bit of research before you make broad uneducated claims - HappyScrappy, on 10/11/2007, -10/+18Dupe? I submitted mine 30 minutes before the other.
- xxNIRVANAxx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5"The noob on the other end was taking forever to get to me, while I was taking out that scarab all by myself!"
- strictnein, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5So when the word comes from the lips of Bungie's #1 public figure, it's a rumor?
- cawpin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4*Hammer to the face*
I know exactly what he means. Playing Halo 2 is the only contact I have with a few friends back home. What's wrong with that? - HappyScrappy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4If you actually read the article, you'd see it is Frank O'Conner of Bungie who suggests this will be the case.
I think he's probably in a position to know. - ummcordell, on 02/03/2009, -2/+6Halo 2 was not a disappointment. The campaign was lacking a little bit, but the game was nowhere near a disappointment. It's still one the top played games on Xbox Live.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7If there's not online co-op that will truly break my little geek heart. As I've had so much fun playing gears of war through on online co-op with one of my good friends whom I don't get too see that often.
- DangerMouse9, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Your mom's a dupe.
- imikedaman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4it's is a contraction for "it is".
its is the possessive form of it. - HappyScrappy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6I find it a weird this one made the front page AFTER the other one. But if you would look closely, this one was submitted 45 minutes BEFORE the other one.
So go mark that one as a dupe. - dvsbastard, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5It'll be a dman shame if they don't include co-op in the final build, as I have a love affair with ANY kind of online co-op game (I find it more fun teaming up with friends, then blasting away at them), but bungie are perfectly capable, so if it is not included I am sure it's just technically impossible (in the project time frame at least)...
But if network technical limitiations weren't a issue, I would LOVE to see games with 8... or 16 player co-op... but alas somethings just can't be done... - jeepnut24, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4How about wait to release the game until it works correctly??? They better have it as this was SERIOUSLY lacking from 2. Talk about a MAJOR let down.
- Echuta, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4This would be a deal breaker for me. Any inkling of desire I have to buy this game would be gone.
- inajeep, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Yeah, the choices and options are just plain killing me. /sarcasm
- logicalnoise, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4ONLINE co-op get it f'n straight. There's still co-op but there isn't enough bandwidth to support online co-op because 1 player could be literally miles from the other in the game maps. Maybe they made the single player campaign too big but the reality is that for now it isn't worth shipping with a broken feature.
- Tippis, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I don't think he meant basic as in "simple", but rather basic as in "fundamental".
- MonkeyFit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I've been a member of digg for over a year now. The only story I submitted was for a friend's comic, and he wouldn't stop bugging me. I knew it wouldn't make front page, so I didn't care and submitted it. Now, had it made the front page, would I have gotten entered in a drawing for a prize? Would I become a celebrity? Have I been missing out on this the whole time? Please, tell me why it is so important to have your submission on the front page.
- dvsbastard, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Why not just come up with a makeshift reason as to why two players can't get that far apart (just cleverly blend it into the story)... Say if a player is out of range of a team mate, they die...
Sure this is a band aid solution (and a little sucky), but I am sure most would argue this would be better than no co-op at all! - dvsbastard, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3A rumour from an official source (i.e. Bungie's Frank O'Conner) means it is more than a rumour...
- rinocom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Deal breaker. I'm not buying without online coop.
- MCHampster, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3When they live 6 states away from you, yes.
You see, some of us don't live with our parents anymore. - HappyScrappy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Completely agree. I wish this "ship it crappy and fix it in the gold/GOTY edition later" didn't even happen on PCs, let alone on consoles.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Well, I have to say I'm disgusted some crew (Xbots?) has come in here and dugg down every comment from a person who says that they would be a disappointment.
If you think shipping without this feature isn't a cause for concern you're kidding yourself. - rowlodge, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2screw the single player, put everything they have left on the multiplayer now and these fat bungie designners will satisfy us.
- strictnein, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I think the point is that Bungie doesn't want to resort to hacks like that. The warping thing with Halo 2 got really annoying sometimes. You'd be right next to someone and then you'd warp for some random reason.
- TheNik, on 10/11/2007, -6/+8Halo 2 didn't have online co-op and look at it's sales.
I could care less about the feature, co-op requires listening to the people on the other end, something that I don't want to do with the majority of XBL users. - rowlodge, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2there dumb....
- Hangender, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3"We're not dumb. We know that people want it, and we are going to make them pay hella $$$$ for it. Its our new business model." Bungie's Frank O'Conner
- Nick22, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Wtf do you guys have the memory of a goldfish? This was JUST on the front page. The exact same thing. Bury this blog spam *****
- insaneidiot, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Come on, guys, is it really THAT hard to grab your controller, walk/drive to a friend's house, and sit down in the same room as them to play a game together? Jeez...
- MasterThief117, on 10/11/2007, -5/+6Oh thank god. Now I don't have to create a book of excuses on why I am constantly late for school every day.
- N3M3515, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Not only does he say it probably wont happen for release he says it might come out as a micro payment option.. which is ***** but I guess I would rather see that then no option at all. I actually hate GoW but I do agree with fans of that game that epic set a standard in that campaign over the internet is a must. Will Bungie be dethroned as current leader only time will tell.
- Zankue, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4sigh, I'm sure this is just some ***** rumor, and even if it isn't I'm still buying this game
- MuadDib, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1there dumb....
They are = They're smart guy. - toppgun, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1graw has that. I dont think it is campaign coop, but it is still coop
- strictnein, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"Yeah Bungie said there would be 4 player co-op over Live"
No, they never said that. - agdtinman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You're all idiots:
