- bouche, on 11/14/2007, -0/+84I was going through these the other night and wondered what other info they'll be able to show. I'm quite amazed that they even track all of this inofrmation for every player. Way to go Bungie. That sets the bar for added value.
- DewCrew88, on 11/14/2007, -1/+56sweet, nice to see a game company that cares about their users makes the best possible product and continues to add to the experience.
(looks in EAs direction) - wiifm69, on 11/14/2007, -5/+46no death by road cone?
- nreynolds, on 11/14/2007, -1/+41They definitely need to change the color system. Way too big of solid red regions.
EDIT: but it's really tight. Looking at my specific heat maps is really weird, but they haven't put enough of my games on it to make that good of a judgment. - Ashkc88, on 11/14/2007, -1/+33I like how on snowbound, the red outlines the underground area where the shotgun is.
- krasherspk, on 11/14/2007, -2/+26mute
- ammi, on 11/14/2007, -0/+24Isolation looks like an MRI-scan
- AZtoJapan, on 11/14/2007, -0/+21Opposite for me. Always an underground grenade and shotgun orgy of violence.
- atonement, on 11/14/2007, -0/+18You must be that one guy outside in every match riding the ghost. ***** you, Obby.
- Archaic1, on 11/14/2007, -0/+17Don't miss the drop down boxes above the map overviews to view different data.
- kevyn, on 11/14/2007, -0/+12you poor poor boy
- xdeliriumx, on 11/14/2007, -0/+11Why are people who stick to the outside automatically campers? Sitting in a room crouched and not moving is camping.
Not running straight to your death=smart. Noone told you that you have to run into the middle like a moron. - ByteGuerilla, on 11/14/2007, -0/+11:)
- Akaji, on 11/14/2007, -1/+11I love people who think that camping is somehow a bad thing.
"Oh no, you're using a superior strategy to simultaneously get kills and avoid giving the enemy team kills! YOU CAMPER WHORE!" - sproutworks, on 11/14/2007, -0/+10It's interesting that in Valhalla, the most sniper rifle kills are from the left side of each base, which are both symmetrical.
- unrealmp3, on 11/14/2007, -0/+10I guess some campers will take advantage of the colder spots now that they know where is exactly the hot action is.
- TannerPwnz, on 11/13/2007, -1/+10I guarantee that there is one big place where the missile pod is used on construct.
- HBNDonut, on 11/14/2007, -2/+11no
- ByteGuerilla, on 11/14/2007, -0/+9Mute them, and set them as avoided players. That's what I do. Even if they're on my team, they're muted if they're being idiots in the lobby, 'cause in-game I probably don't want to hear what they have to say. One time, I put up with it on the off chance I needed to hear what the person had to say in-game... he was telling us he was going to get the enemy flag, despite the fact that we were playing territories. When we pointed this out to him, he kept trying to retake lost territories.
So, mute and avoid, mute and avoid. - HBNDonut, on 11/13/2007, -0/+9Maybe it's just me, but personally I enjoy beating those people. It just pisses them off even more. Not that I come across them that often.
- gamerzworld, on 11/15/2007, -2/+11Bungie,
Fix the damn melee system...then do heat maps!
Sincerely,
Halo 3 Owner - BestJaxx, on 11/14/2007, -3/+11When I heard "heat maps," stupid me thought they meant that there were going to be new multiplayer maps with lava and *****. I'm disappointed.
- xdeliriumx, on 11/13/2007, -0/+8No doubt it could be a bit better, but the Im always astonished at the amount of info bungie stores for each individual user and it is still a beta version. I am sure they will make it even better and faster (b.net is a little slow at times).
- hambend, on 11/13/2007, -1/+8Yes, but it would be nice if they normalized the map a bit so you could see more detail. At least for the "all weapons" image. Also, a little bit of ajax would go a long way. Waiting for the page to reload and then having to scroll down to see the whole image (I'm only 1440x900) is jarring when you're trying to compare weapons. Symbols marking off different weapons spawns would be informative, too.
I'm only being so picky because I really like this sort of thing. Dugg. - xdeliriumx, on 11/13/2007, -0/+7Thats because that is the global heatmap of all weapons by all players.
You can look at indiviual heatmaps within your specific gamer profile under career stats I believe. And also you can pick "kill by" or "death by" and for each weapon to see specifics and you will get a better understanding of what is going on. - Laxaloot, on 11/14/2007, -1/+8rvb- "It's a legitimate strategy!!!"
- Kidsturk, on 11/14/2007, -0/+6I have nothing against campers at all. I totally understand the benefits of camping, but I've chosen not to do it myself. The time pressure of the online Halo games and the low scoring possibilities of camping (especially on Lone Wolves) mean I can get a little bored waiting for someone to come by.
I have never really played an online game before Halo 3, and when I used to play PS2 games I was always very conservative in my style of play, so I thought I would probably be more of a camper...but no. I'm all about the wading in and having a go, and I love it. And if I get skewered by someone stepping out of an alcove after I went past and didn't see them, that's their kill, and my fault for not spotting them.
Weapons camping in Lone Wolf can get annoying, especially around intentional bottlenecks, but hey, it's like a mini-objective. If you want that shotgun, you're going to have to fight for it. - pcking, on 11/13/2007, -0/+6I did miss that...thanks for pointing it out. Definitely makes the maps more useful.
- manbergur, on 11/14/2007, -0/+530 guys seriously? 1 house? how many on the LAN?
- Kidsturk, on 11/14/2007, -7/+12I'm quite surprised to see that all the red on Snowbound seems to sit in the tunnels. Whenever I play that map it's always a topside free-for-all messfest.
- luckykpolice, on 11/14/2007, -2/+6Or basically, stay out of the middle.
- nizzy1115, on 11/14/2007, -0/+4im 22 and i think its the *****.
- aldenhg, on 11/13/2007, -0/+4It's not Bungie's. They use Havok. That's the same physics engine as Half-Life 2
- Kidsturk, on 11/13/2007, -0/+4I think you're right, but I think also that the larger maps are used less frequently. Team Slayer always seems to have the largest population when I'm online, and that always seems to just use the smaller maps. The algorithm would probably paint all the maps solid red if there wasn't some sort of reduction in the intensity of color due to the huge number of data points, and maybe the lighter colors on the larger maps are fallout because of this.
- Hoogs, on 11/14/2007, -1/+5The game isn't even two months old yet...your patience will be rewarded.
- Whaines, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3In ranked matches you can only hear your team anyway. The people on your team usually will be asses in the lobby so you can easily mute them before the game even starts if need be. I'd like to see the rep those guys have, probably less than 25% preferred, haha.
- atonement, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3Check out snipers on Narrows and there are those four spots up in the corner where people just camp all damn day. I'm surprised it doesn't have more of the actual "hidden" spots from the far sides
- Falldog, on 11/13/2007, -0/+3Nice feature, but pretty obvious locations for the most part.
- inactive, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3The right side of each base has a man-cannon in it. Snipers on that side run the risk of accidentally being flung from the base while their scope is zoomed in.
- ScionX, on 11/14/2007, -1/+4i'm just tired of playing the same ones over & over.
Then again I've moved on to CoD4, something about it is just addicting about it. Granted I loved the time I spent w/Halo 3, but I'm just tired of it. - slickrick2k1, on 11/13/2007, -0/+3i wish i could digg you infinity
- navster15, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3It's interesting how the smaller maps seem to have red all over while the bigger maps have only discreet areas colored. I think that mainly has to do with the game types being used on those maps. A measured team battle on larger maps would generally have more strategic killing locations whereas the smaller Rumble Pit maps has players getting kills wherever they can.
- Whaines, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3Extremely modified, of course. It's not like they just plopped in Havok and went to work on the rest of the game.
- xdeliriumx, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3Look approximately 25 comments ago.
too further simplify..
MRI="brain scan" - mtrip, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3So you seriously created a account for the sole reason of searching for and dissing Halo 3 posts? Seriously?
- SSCrow, on 11/13/2007, -3/+5This feature has been around for a week.
its was in the last Weekly Update.
I just wish the colors were based off of percentage rather than Value ranges. - Kidsturk, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2I really like Construct.
Which you can read as meaning 'I've been lucky a few times on Construct'.
I think Valhalla and Sandtrap are both used less frequently, so the LW smaller maps have much more data. - Whaines, on 11/14/2007, -1/+3My matches on snowbound are always races for the shotgun and then staying by the shield door underneath with a sniper. Makes for interesting battles; very fun. =)
- jake8689, on 11/14/2007, -3/+5what is a good game then smarty pants
- Kidsturk, on 11/14/2007, -0/+2Yeah mine are working but they seem a bit random at the moment. They'll probably be more useful in a week or so.
(I'm expecting a big red blob in the middle of nowhere on Guardian, as I always seem to plunge to my death at least twice a match) -
