- cRmtIMe, on 04/23/2008, -3/+22Cole Train is DEFINITELY the coolest and funniest character in the game. "GET BACK IN YO HOLE, BITCH!"
- jgtg32a, on 04/23/2008, -0/+9Wasn't the Cole Train guy modeled after and voiced by the guy who was in the Office Linebacker shorts
- Shadowgamers, on 04/23/2008, -0/+8'make the game bigger and more badass'
Assault Rifle attached to a train, anyone? - inactive, on 04/23/2008, -0/+8I loved Gears of War, but why pick on them for stereotyping? It wasn't just Cole that was typical, but everyone else played into a pretty cliche hollywood action movie role. That was kind of the fun of the game, was it not? It was a giant hollywood blockbuster of a game. Great story, great action, awesome mood and pacing but weak characters.
This is just a silly PC police issue. - lcmatt, on 04/23/2008, -3/+11Cole is definitely one of the top characters in GoW, some of his comments are pure genius.
Great news that DLC will be free again too. - wageslaven, on 04/23/2008, -5/+12The idea that GoW is somehow racist is ridiculous. Manufactured outrage at its finest.
Heck, in the end, if this kind of idea gets some traction, GoW could be at the center of all kinds of talking-head-blather-festivals and ultimatley help the game buy earning it free advertising.
In the end, the developers/writers will can make sure to throw the critics on their asses by conflicting some stereotypes. Make Cole a masters student in math, make the asian guy bad at math. make the black guy a world-class swimmer and the white guy a great dancer.
Whatever - they could throw some silly curveballs and make the whole argument look like a parody of itself.
How ridiculous. - stonklit, on 04/23/2008, -0/+6What do you mean "for it's day" - as if it were 10+ years old.
It still is amazing. - lordtyros, on 04/23/2008, -1/+7"Cover, which is admittedly inspired by the oft-forgotten Kill.switch"
Oft-forgotten? Have you heard of Winback, *****? - ryeland, on 04/23/2008, -1/+7Gears was a really great game to play. For its day it was amazing. But with the over pimping of Unreal Engine they need more than graphics and a cover system to garner the critical acclaim they got last time. I really hope they bring their A game to this title. An actual story would be nice. Instead of just generic relentless "aliens" and generic "Badass" Player characters.
- StingerMS, on 04/23/2008, -0/+5No way am I watching a video that long when the audio quality is so low.
- Neo829, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4The torque bow is one of the most satisfying weapons ever. Thhhhhwunk. . . boom!
- isewise, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4Terry Tate Office Linebacker.
- BattleScars, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3I have but three words for you: DUAL LANCER RIFLES
That is all. - crashingechelon, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3It sounds like I'm gonna have more fun on GoW 2 then I did on GoW. I always hoped from them to release the extra chapter as DLC for the 360, but it looks as though I'll have to get the PC version when it drops in price.
- rblancarte, on 04/23/2008, -1/+3Hear hear. It is kind of disappointing to see a developer say:
"Graphics is pretty much universally hailed as the easiest way to get someone to take a look."
UGH. Please, graphics IMHO could be one of the biggest problems in computer games right now. Because everyone has to make their engine look nice, they forget things like actually making the gameplay good or their game fun.
Now granted GoW was good for a lot more reasons than graphics, but they shouldn't focus on improving graphics without also focusing on adding to gameplay and content. - drtyfrnk, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2Winback is THE *****!
I loved that game when I was younger. *****, I gotta go find that now. - Pinmonkey555, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2Last-minute addition of the chainsaw my ass. And Terry Tate a stereotype? hell no baby.
- ryeland, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1It still is amazing, especially for those of us who started our gaming on NES or on Atari, going from that to what we have now in a few short years is incredible. And gears graphically is great. However the standards have gone up in the last two years. Games like UT3, Dark Sector, Uncharted, COD4 have all showcased some really good graphics. And while GOW has great graphics the areas in which you can view them are very limited, look at the size of the play area's they are all in small hallways, rooms, or courtyards.
As i said GOW is a great game and graphically its great as well, but the graphics won't drop jaws anymore. The cover system has been used again in many different games with great success, active reloads have been used. So like any great game GOW had a bunch of people rip off its features and mechanics. To get the same acclaim as the first one they will need to introduce a game that is as influential as the first one, which will be hard to do. That's all i am saying. I really hope they knock one out of the park, because it moves gaming forward. - KaiUno, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Yeah, thanks for that. Still hate the negro stereotype he represents. Then again, all dialogue was utter tripe in GoW. I shudder to think what the movie will be like.
- lordtyros, on 04/23/2008, -2/+3Eat ***** and die.
- penguinofspades, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1reminds me of this
http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comic.php?d=20080 ... - shauncorleone, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1The only real thing I am hoping for in the sequel is a little better multiplayer on Live. Close-quarters shotgun battles seemed extremely random in who came out on top. Far too many times was I facing someone pumping shells into them, only to be fragged by someone not facing me. Don't get me wrong, as I love multiplayer, but there were definitely some issues.
- allisonaxe, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1if you can't find a copy, its still in every single used bin i've dug through in the past 3 years.
- Managua8Green, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1in loving color?
- Neo829, on 04/23/2008, -1/+2They cast that part perfectly. Cole is one of the most memorable characters in any shooter, and when I ran into him in the game for the first time, I immediately recognized the voice and went online to confirm it was indeed Terrible Terry Tate, office linebacker.
In conclusion: When things ain't happenin' the way they supposed to happen, you know Triple T gonna condense the nonsense. Triple T is a hitter. Not a quitter. Believe that. - Dundasbro, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1This isn't about Gears of War 2, they are talking about Gears of War 1...
- Dundasbro, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Ignore me.
- Hoogs, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1As long as the kills are still as satisfying, it's good enough for me.
- timlump, on 04/23/2008, -0/+0nice referrence to ctrl alt del, i would love Hammer Of Dawn brass knuckles
- allisonaxe, on 04/23/2008, -2/+2yeah, i've heard of it. i usually see it for like 6 bucks in the used bin. I've never played it, though, and nobody I know has ever even owned it, because it looks like its ***** boring and probably cliched.
- drtyfrnk, on 04/23/2008, -1/+1Please
- NYC10004, on 04/23/2008, -0/+0Gears wasn't racist in anyway and this is the first time I've even heard it brought up.
Cole had the best lines in the game and was one of the coolest characters. What he "had" was personality. So leave the manufactured outrage at the door.
The only thing that Gears needs is a sequel. It looks great, it plays great and it sounds great. Great game - Dundasbro, on 04/24/2008, -1/+1Ignore me.
- absinth, on 05/03/2008, -0/+0there first order of business should be to make the online play way more consistent.... talk about want to go jogging with your knife after an hour of play.
- FilliSfandal, on 04/23/2008, -4/+1Although it looked good, GoW was a ripoff because the game was way to short(I don't do multiplayer), so I am not falling for that again.
Also it suffered really from "locked path syndrome"(can't remember the correct word for it), you could jump over certain things if you were ment to but other things at the same height was impossible to jump over. So you could not go exploring like we have gotten used to in other games. It was the excact opposite of fx what farcry did many years before gow. - KillaCal1, on 04/23/2008, -5/+1i cant wait until GoW 2............omg live is gonna go crazy
- Pyroteq, on 04/23/2008, -8/+2GoW is badass. It's the closest thing to Duke Nukem 3D yet, the only thing missing was hot cyber chicks.
- haxr, on 04/23/2008, -9/+2"Capps talked about the hierarchy of game development. While Wii fans may argue the point, he puts graphics at the top of that list."
Wii fans and everyone else who's ever actually played a videogame. - CriticalImpacta, on 04/23/2008, -8/+1You know what it needs, a less generic plot and weapons. Seriously I had this feeling like, I know I was playing but it's kinda meh and sure I want to finish it but there really isn't any great need to.
They need to invest more people into the Storyline and make it less generic. - alexhazeldean, on 04/23/2008, -9/+1anyone know if this is coming out for wii? /sarcasm. Epic are a living epic fail.
- KaiUno, on 04/23/2008, -11/+2Ugh. More Cole Train. That must've been the most annoying character in a videogame in a long while. When I finally beat the end boss and that guy started to "sing" his credit song, I threw up in my mouth a little. A rap song? Please.
