- RUFiO006, on 11/23/2008, -0/+104Sorry to sound slow and not to insult the writer, but what _actually_ happened?
- DotFreelance, on 11/24/2008, -0/+56I'm sorry if this is overly stupid or offensive, but this article looks like it's written by a 12 year old. Is this seriously a blog-writer? Does this person write blogs regularly, or did he copy and paste if from somewhere else?
- Snokage, on 11/23/2008, -0/+51the golden lancer and bonus map packs that came with the LE version of the game became leaked(not sure how else to put it) and everyone is able to download them for free with no code.
- hocusposus, on 11/24/2008, -2/+41Epic games is notorious for permabanning their customers. When unreal tournament 3 came out, thousands of bans where issued when people complained about the game not being ready to ship for any number of reasons. I guess they make the bulk of their money off licensing the unreal engine, so they don't care anymore.

- Snokage, on 11/23/2008, -0/+36i wish my gold lancer looked like that. with just gold parts but still making it look gritty.
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -6/+40Oh scary, IP banning! Seeing as that 99% of all internet users have dynamic IPs, what good does that do?
All it could do is block somebody else in the future with this dooche bag's current IP. - Matt2k, on 11/24/2008, -0/+34*** BREAKING NEWS: Man gets banned from Internet forum for resurrecting locked topics! Full story at 11
It's like an Onion article
Who gives a ***** - xm1014, on 11/23/2008, -0/+29LOL..how did THAT picture end up on a bank's website?
- Jaliyl, on 11/23/2008, -2/+29"As in a full on IP banning, not just his account."
I'd be just a bit more worried about the account ban than the IP. - 2Bnor2B, on 11/24/2008, -1/+26I never like limited edition or preorder promotions that provided unique in game materials anyway.
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -4/+28They ***** up and they want to smear bans on everyone who exploited the *****?, stupid game company should stop being childish.
This is the kind of thing a 5 year old kid does, he will bitch and moan, then scream and make a fuss about things that go wrong for him, you ***** up guys and you payed the price, now stop being a little bitch about it. - DotFreelance, on 11/24/2008, -0/+22There's a difference between 'laid back bloggers' and people who have no writing talent.
- Oogler, on 11/24/2008, -0/+21I totally agree. I read the story and got kind of what was going on. But that's what you get from writers in the blogosphere who can't tell a story without assuming everyone is absolutely dialled into the subject matter before they begin typing. Lame.
- hoonooka, on 11/24/2008, -0/+17the gun is retarded.
- gamben0, on 11/24/2008, -0/+17What the ***** kind of douche says 'brah'.
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -1/+16welcome to the internet, i'd say 95% of blogs are pieces of *****
- thePTS, on 11/24/2008, -2/+15I don't know if the game's producer; "Epic Games", who have had that name for over a decade, got the memo.
- thcobbs, on 11/24/2008, -1/+11SHHHH! Geeks are everywhere!
- apackofmonkeys, on 11/24/2008, -0/+10From what I understand, the accidentally-free content was presented on the website just like any intentionally-free content. MS has made some things free in the past for limited time (certain Guitar Hero tracks, etc.), and you STILL want to blame the consumer for downloading something that was presented to them as free? This is 100% entirely MS/Epic's fault and absolutely nothing should be done to anyone who downloaded it.
- oneoverzero, on 11/24/2008, -0/+8You have the choice to use it or not.
Putting in the code doesn't force you to use it forever. - bdejong11129, on 11/24/2008, -2/+9Great, fewer players because of the ban will probably make the matchmaking take even longer than it already does. Instead of worrying about people getting the Gold Plated Lancer maybe they should work on speeding up the matchmaking.
And while they are at it, how about letting people stay with the group when they loose the horde match. I hate the fact that when I get matched up with GREAT group of players in horde just to get dropped after the match and have to get matches up again with another group.
Plus why do I have to go through all the match making crap again and again and again, sure it makes for an easy bathroom break, but again, nothing is more irritating than finishing wave 26 with a good group and then getting your collective butts kicked in wave 5 because the next group doesn't understand how to hit x when they are standing next to you when you are down. - test5477, on 11/24/2008, -2/+9who cares, they did something wrong and got banned. i'm more annoyed that the author of the story writes like a 5 year old, i guess they will let anyone write for them. sad.
- ace429k, on 11/24/2008, -0/+6go play in the street
- crashingechelon, on 11/24/2008, -1/+7Well the bonus map packs came with both versions of the game. The LE just got you the Golden Lancer. So I don't see what the point of this was for the person to do since it only benefits people who bought the game pre-owned since they can't get the map packs and the people who bought the regular version that didn't get the Golden Lancer.
- strictnein, on 11/24/2008, -2/+8My router and cable modem have been unplugged plenty of times.
- strictnein, on 11/24/2008, -2/+8Some "dynamic" IPs aren't all that dynamic. I've had my same Comcast IP address for over two years now.
- WaffleMark, on 11/24/2008, -0/+5Yeah, before each match you get to choose what gun you want to use.
- ace429k, on 11/24/2008, -0/+5lol you sound funny. who gives a crap what you think though. if you wish to go ranting about how the 360 sucks, about how its lame and all its games suck then go to a PS3 forum.
or...if your a wii supporter, go there too. it doesn't matter to me. i just believe that you waste a lot of peoples time with your childish antics. i bet you think your real smooth and that everyone loves you. well, in reality your a stupid troll that just got fed. - Ryan2845, on 11/24/2008, -0/+5Ditto, I even moved from an apartment to a house and transfered my comcast service and they reconnected me with the exact same "dynamic" IP
- hagfish70, on 11/24/2008, -0/+5Epic as in the company, not big.
- ausoff2, on 11/24/2008, -0/+5I love how Kotaku managed to attempt a sense of humor, while not actually helping me understand what happened.
- codeblue315, on 11/24/2008, -1/+6Absolutely, Comcast has been supplying the same "dynamic IP" to my work for 2 years now.
- itsJALbert, on 11/24/2008, -2/+7No, what a 5 year old does is exploit something they clearly aren't meant to, then cry that because the system technically allowed them, it's alright to do.
- erichh, on 11/24/2008, -0/+5I completely misread the title of this post, and thought that you meant that people were being banned from XBL in 'epic' numbers.
- peppermd, on 11/24/2008, -0/+4Gears of War 2 Matchmaking is a joke. No party system, host advantage still exists, multiple lobby screens, long waits...I went back to CoD4 and was able to play 2 games in the same time it would take to find one game in Gears of War 2.
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -2/+6Get a job and get the ***** out of your mom's basement.
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -0/+4Guys, just go into your router's admin panel and find an area for MAC Address Cloning, then set some random, yet valid, MAC Address.
After that unplug your modem, leave it offline for a minute or so, then plug it back in. BAAAM! New IP. - LimeParrot, on 11/24/2008, -1/+5Exactly. The in-game gold lancer looks crap. It has zero texture and is just 'yellow'. I'm glad I didn't get it.
- crossmr, on 11/24/2008, -0/+4"As in a full on IP banning" holy ***** *****.. a full on ip banning..jesus christ..
this guy should do a movie with bruckheimer..he can do the cliche garbage dialog and bruckheimer can blow ***** up. - Beakerz, on 11/24/2008, -0/+4Comcast, as well as many other cable providers, user "Sticky" dynamic IPs. They are dynamic, but they just rarely change.
- dezman2003, on 11/24/2008, -0/+4Typically the IP is assigned based on the mac address of the device the cable modem is connected to. Swapping routers will usually grant or another IP address or you could simply connect the modem directly to you computers NIC, same deal new ip due to different mac address. DHCP is pretty predictable.
- Wesside, on 11/24/2008, -0/+4no, microsoft is the microsoft of gaming...
- centerblack, on 11/24/2008, -0/+3If you want the IP to change and can't get it to for some reason:
Disconnect the co-ax. Call tech support. Tell them your internet doesn't work. The "online" light will never come on, they'll tell you it's a problem w/ your modem and have you pick a new one up at the local office.
It will have a different mac address and your ip should change. - scabbers, on 11/24/2008, -1/+4She locked me in here.
- SSUK, on 11/24/2008, -1/+4Good job reading the full article. It was a forums ban. Doesn't affect Xbox Live at all.
- bagboyrebel, on 11/24/2008, -0/+3If you want Gears 2 it's currently only on the 360 with no plans for a PC release last I heard.
- InsaneMachine, on 11/24/2008, -1/+4is wikipedia banned too? or maybe google search?
- imronburgundy83, on 11/24/2008, -0/+3I got the code for the golden battle rifle. Let me tell you that weapon is crap.
- scooterbaga, on 11/24/2008, -0/+3What a pleasant way to ask for help. Best of luck champ!
