- djSyndrome, on 10/10/2007, -6/+93Jesus, how does stuff like this pass for 'news'? It's a rumor, and should be labeled as such.
- dunlop, on 10/10/2007, -5/+84good, this will make it easier for developers
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -8/+82Didn't Microsoft just say a few days ago that 360 games would NEVER require a hard drive?
Buried as inaccurate. - MechaZain, on 10/10/2007, -2/+63All three Core owners must be devastated.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -8/+48They also said:
Their isn't a problem with the failing systems.
They will not drop the price.
We are not releasing a new model
etc etc - espion4ge, on 10/10/2007, -2/+40It's just ridiculous how Microsoft decided with the 360 that the hard drive would be optional. If Microsoft gets this to happen they'll have at least corrected one mistake that has annoyed 360 developers for a long time.
Maybe those of us with Premium systems (pretty much everyone) will finally get games that make use of the hard drive... - xShad0w, on 10/10/2007, -3/+34Psh, thats so freaking stupid, everyone should get harddrives anyway, memory cards freakin blow, eventually the 20gb hdd is going to cost about the same as the 1gb memory stick or some ***** like that, easier for developers = better games = more enjoyment, rock on this rules, and don't be cheap just get a premium core units suck
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -5/+33We'll, they're SOL, now aren't they?
Gee, couldn't see THIS coming. - jedioniram, on 10/10/2007, -0/+28This is what they should have done from the beginning...
- maxtypezero, on 10/10/2007, -2/+28you're a dumbass. these two (three) things aren't comparable.
- jacksons98, on 10/10/2007, -4/+26Core was a bad idea to begin with, but still for those users it is a slap in the face. Looks like their only "choice" now is to pay Microsoft more money for one of their proprietary hard drives.
- totorototoro, on 10/10/2007, -3/+25If true, that would explain all the rumors of the death of the Core unit.
"Every Xbox360 comes with a hard drive! So now games can all require one!" :p - dvsbastard, on 10/10/2007, -4/+25No one seemed too fussed when earlier consoles required gamers to seperately purchase memory cards if they wish to save their progress (and without this some games were virtually unplayable).
If I remember correctly, there were also a handful of games on the N64 which required their memory expansion pack too.
Admittedly though, a little foresight by MS would have avoided all of this mess... - McGrude, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20Umm... It's included if you buy the stand alone 120GB hard disk drive to upgrade your existing 360.
Read the description here : http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360harddrive120gb/default.htm
"The Xbox 360 120GB Hard Drive includes a data transfer kit to easily migrate all of your saved data from your 20GB HDD to your 120GB HDD." - nreynolds, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20Microsoft and Sony could've both done themselves a favor and only released 1 SKU (at least for a while, then make special versions that aren't meant to replace the original).
Microsoft should have only released the Premium model. $400
Sony should have only released the 20GB model but added wi-fi. $500
A year after launch, they could come out with upgrades and add-ons and the like, but this would have ended a lot of confusion on both the consumer and developer sides. - shelbygt33, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16Isn't there a soccer game that requires the HDD already available?
This isn't really news then. - acarr, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16until they realize they can buy a HD seperately.
- Bega, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17that's probably because a memory card used to cost around $20.
- CraigCarlyle, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17This site is still reporting that Microsoft is discontinuing the Core, which they're not:
http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/14116/Xbox-360-Core-Discontinuation-Rumors-Denied/
It's a ***** rumor started by a no-name site trying to catch some attention. - BabyWookie, on 10/10/2007, -4/+18The Capcom guy behind RE4 once said "Hell will freeze over before you will see this game on another platform", meaning the GameCube. We all know how that turned out.
- ohthedaysofyore, on 10/10/2007, -5/+19Buried for the annoying "MGS4 on the Xbox" Plug
- CReyes4182, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15As a ps3 fan I should take this as a complement. I mean think about it. Is it really a good thing that Microsoft is trying to BUY ps3 games? Doesn't that mean that Microsoft doesn't feel that they have an adequate lineup? Whats the matter guys Gears, Halo, Mass Effect not good enough for you?
- Zero2aHero, on 10/10/2007, -7/+19"While many were surprised by the fact that MS was planning drop the Core from it's SKU line-up,"
When did this become fact? Who the ***** is this website? This article comes off as nothing other than someone's opinion. - djSyndrome, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Source?
- dunlop, on 10/10/2007, -8/+20shaddup
- maxtypezero, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13except 7GB are used for backwards compatibility.
- davidrools, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11even the original xbox had a hard drive. maybe they were desperate to have a lower cost version of the 360?
- tapo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10For $100
- ScarlemNocturne, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11$20 for a memory card when PS1/N64/Saturn came out?? Are you for real? (actually, I'm not sure what the Saturn used for memory, so don't flame me if I was wrong about that).
... $20?! - Stonedonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9"XF has learned that MS has plans for the 360 to do the very same thing."
That's right. No official statement, or even an anonymous quote. No time frame. Xboxfamily.com has learned, and now it's news... - pegisys, on 10/10/2007, -5/+14since when, only the cheap 3rd party memory cards that would end up erasing them selves cost $20. All the ones that really worked cost $30 - $40, and they don't hold no where near as much data as a HDD
I think overall it's a good move, and the easy fix would be to pack a HDD with a game the way Nintendo did with the N64 expansion pack - staffrocket, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8It's like a step backwards seeing as the original xbox had a hard drive.
- CReyes4182, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11So what if the core owners have to buy a hard drive? You guys are just going to have to suck it up and get the hard drive. Its too bad that you cant shop around and get a regular hard drive like the ps3. But oh well. Why should 360 premium and Elite owners have to suffer because of the core? Hell even ps3 owners where suffering from the core since games where made on the 360 with the core in mind and then ported to the ps3.
- Barnolde, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8WTF is this crap?
It's just wishful thinking to counteract MS's stupid decision of the tard pack anyway, but still. It just says HDD required for some games, yeah, all MMOs, but that's it and we've known that forever.
This article doesn't cite anything, it doesn't make sense and it's just a bunch of random nonsense. Buried for being a stupid waste of time and buried for mentioning MGS4, again. MGS4 isn't going to the 360 because of a lack of a standard HDD, that's just ludicrous. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10PS3 owners are still suffering from the Elite since games have to be made to fit on a DVD.
- maxtypezero, on 10/10/2007, -6/+13with only 10GB of free space on the "20GB" model, it would to be very limited.
- estvir, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10Can you put in a game and just start playing it, and I don't mean some simple game but a full-blown one? No? Welcome to console gaming.. 20 years ago?
See, it's just retarded to make comments like that.. and wrong. - sgi02, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I'm sure that would go over just as well as the Jaguar CD did.
- jedikv, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5ZOMG since you say so.
- kevnaca, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I know there is a delay on the commenting system before your comment shows up. You just have to deal with it. Wait a minute to see if your comment gets through.
- Me1000, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8not when Microsoft says it!
They also tell me Windows is the most secure operating system! - theanticrust, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6If this is true, Microsoft, if it has any brains would reduce the price of the HDD to like 50bucks and double the capacity to 40gb. Like come on, $100 for 20gb, that's a joke. Is anyone manufacturing 20gb drives anymore???
- triplehelix, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9i consistently amazed by the duality of diggers. on topics of microsofts os division, they are satan, on topics of microsofts gaming division, all they do is forgivable.
- smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6will it be more expensive or cheaper to upgrade from a core compared to buying a unit with a pre-installed hdd?
seems like core purchasers were deceived and are being screwed over as there was no point to buy a core unit to begin with, especially if it'll cost more to upgrade than it costs to buy a unit with the same size hdd pre-installed. and if it's cheaper to upgrade then those who bought units with pre-installed hdds will feel screwed over. - CarpeFishem, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Why is there such a stigma about putting games on multiple discs?
Single-player on the first disc, multiplayer on the second. Easy. - netkid91, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Makes you wonder what's in that 7GB....and why? But still, the orig. Xbox had a 10GB HD, so I don't see a big issue, and it looks like M$ may be releasing an 80GB one anyways.
- nublet, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6way to say "***** you" to all the people who got the core system... gj ms!
- Malhavoc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Ah the joys of being a game developer... no one on the internet believes you and you can't really provide any proof.
- cooleyandy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I can't wait until a game pops a warning "Sorry, you do not have enough disk space to play this game".
- dagamer34, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Core unit needs to be killed.
