http://www.gametrailers.com/player/21481.html - RedHerringHack, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13I am not a bigtime Halo FPS fan, but I like RTS games a lot. Playing a RTS based on a known mythology like Halo is going to be orgasmic. It's kinda like a reverse Warcraft 3 to WOW; RTS to FPS(like) versus FPS to RTS. I think it's going to be very cool, and I will play it. Graphics in the trailer are fantastic. The warthog jumping the chasm is wicked cool.
- DontEatTheFish, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12needs to be on PC too....
- tehpwnrate, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12He's right. Bungie originally intended for Halo to be a Mac RTS, but very early in the game's production they completely changed that.
- razor150, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10By the time MS bought Bungie, Bungie had already changed it from RTS, to 3rd person shooter to 1st person shooter. MS had nothing to do with that transition.
- mymidgetfriend, on 10/11/2007, -7/+16Honest question... Is there anything about this title that makes it different from your typical strategy game?
- razor150, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9And 10 bucks says idiots like you will dislike it just because it is a console game.
- BLyn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8In the event that Halo is in fact a mediocre game (which i disagree with, but whatever), the fact that these are two different developers means that you're judging nothing more than the francise. Why not go and discredit the entire mario franchise because mario is missing wasn't a good game.
- misterhat, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12So, is this what the original Halo was before Bungie scrapped it and made it an FPS?
- TehSwat, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Rule 34: Please stop, out of sperm.
- tehpwnrate, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7The Halo universe... that is about it, from what we currently know. Until more details arise, we don't know much. However, since I trust Ensemble Studios to make an awesome game, and I love the Halo series, I think this will rule.
- jeo77, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Is this not still Ensemble Studios, the makers of the kick ass Age of Empires games?
- hokeywebb22, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5What? Marathon was it's own amazing game and it had nothing to do with Halo.
- dankCIA, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Nope. Besides it being halo the only draw i can see is the variety of weapons and vehicles. Plus deep down inside the nerd in me is geeking out about having a mini army of spartans to control.
- itatag, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7They slapped the Halo label on it.
- alvinrod, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5My only question is whether or not you'll be able to use a keyboard/mouse for the game. Playing an RTS with a console controller is painful.
I checked the official site and found this in the FAQ section:
Q: Other RTS games that have transitioned to console have had issues with controls, how will “Halo Wars” improve on the formula?
A: Halo Wars was created for the Xbox 360 from the ground up, which meant we didn't have to make compromises or shoe-horn in artifacts from a Windows PC game. We were able to take all the best aspects of RTS games, make them work perfectly on the Xbox 360, and exclude the rest.
I'll remain somewhat skeptical and hope for a keyboard/mouse mode, but otherwise the game looks sweet. - Arkavus, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Well I know I'll have a lot of fun with this game. :D
- FlamingWombat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3What jeo and Isolder said. You are an idiot fanboy. Blizzard is a good company, yes, and they do make good RTS's. This does not mean they are the only company that can make good RTS's. In fact, looking at what they've published, I believe Ensemble has made more RTS's than Blizzard, and even cutting out the few "bad" ones, they probably still have more "good" ones than Blizzard.
- Bega, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3yes, because spartans are invincible, and the devs don't know how to balance the game. Cripes.
- wvannus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4pwnrate is right. Halo was a Mac RTS, then M$ bought Bungie.
http://archives.cnn.com/2000/TECH/computing/06/22/ms.bungie.idg/index.html - razor150, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Spartans on the equivalent of the Elite. It'll be balanced.
- NinjaBass, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3It probably will, but only the CONSOLE RTS genre. Think about it, if this game is good, it will be the first GOOD RTS on a console. Thats a revolution in my book.
- troglodytejb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Blizzard isn't even that good anymore. Yeah, WC2 and SC were revolutionary, but after they've systematically eliminated the original designers and focused on the bloat that is WoW, I have minimal expectations for a "revolutionary" game, although I'll enjoy the updated SC that will result.
Besides that, Blizzard has NEVER been unequivocally the best, stacking up historically against Westwood and Ensemble, and more recently Relic. Blizzard's graphics tend to be well behind the cutting edge, and support in recent years has become a nightmare. Look at the botched abortion that was WC3 balance to see what I mean.
Try Company of Heroes, then tell me Blizzard is still the best. - NinjaBass, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I guess you decided to leave the capitalization to the pros at the English Language.
- NinjaBass, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5Halo is a mediocre shooter? Hardly. The first Halo, if I recall, was hailed as a revolution in the console FPS genre. And then try telling that to the literally millions of people who play Halo 2 on Xbox Live.
- Isolder, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'm not sure about Ensemble Studios, but Bungie is definitely no amateur with RTS game making. Myth: The Fallen Lords and Myth II: Soulblighter are two of the greatest RTS games out there. All strategy, all the time.
- StandardsDT, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@jfjj
Next time copy and paste the whole thing!
It said "As for Halo fans, this could be the best 30 sec of E3". - FlamingWombat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'm wondering if they're going to do anything to differentiate this from most other RTS's out there. Ensemble generally does a pretty good job, the AOE series was particularly awesome, so I'm hopeful. Basically, by now I've played the same RTS with a different name way too much, and so I really appreciate the ones that add something new to the genre or do something different from everyone else.
- binaryis4lovers, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2haloooooooo how i love thee.
- elementfire, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I highly doubt you can use anything other than the controller to play it. I think it'd be designed like C&C3 for the 360; i.e., built from the ground up for the controller.
- Fraff5, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Console RTS?
So far it looks like End War > Halo Wars. - NinjaBass, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Goldeneye was a shooter on a console too. By the time Halo came out, there were already FPS's on consoles. Halo was "hailed so highly" because it was GOOD. And if you're trying that whole PC vs. Console debate, don't. I have honestly seen people use gamepads on PC shooters and do just as well as the Keyboard/Mouse users.
- mymidgetfriend, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Whoa whoa whoa there. I'll give you two examples of some great RTSs made recently that have evolved from the traditional forms.
1. C&C Generals
2. Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War (I've never played an RTS with so much constant action, the game is designed with almost pure offense in mind) - YouRookies, on 10/11/2007, -7/+8Ten bucks says that console noobs are also going to claim that Halo Wars revolutionized RTS.
- Asianwaste, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2To me, it looks like Star Craft 2 is much better than this. However Ensemble is making it, who have made Age of Empires. AOE IMO was a good series but definitely had its flaws. If they get Big Huge games (Rise of the Nations) to work on this title as well, then you might get a badass game.
- UlicBelouve, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Mark me as a consumer that doesn't give a rat's ass about who MAKES an RTS, just so long as it's good. Who makes it means nothing to me, it's like a record label. Is the music good? Great, I don't care who handled the music label.
- justncase80, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1There hasn't been anything different about RTS games since the mid 90's (other than graphics). I'm SO freakin' bored by RTS it's not even funny. They should have made it a Total War style game, RTS' are lame.
- funknjunk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1If not then this'll go down as the only rts console only...
- BigFont, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0This is halo wars....but your right about quake wars...i miss strafe jumping and shooting rockets out of my arse
- NinjaBass, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0It should be fine, because it won't be a PC port. Since they are making it specifically for the 360, they can make the controls work for the 360, instead of making the PC controls work on a gamepad. I would rather it be on PC, but whatever, I'm being optimistic.
- Radica1Faith, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1You obviously haven't seen the Killzone 2 footage
- chris4404, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3Thank you.
- Th0rus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0looks cool, I'm iffy about how it will control on the 360
- mongolloyd, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0i don't capitalize purposely. i don't have reasons for it, i just find it is easier and my point is still gotten across just as well.
- dezmo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1i always though of halo as being inspired by tribes, which was an amazing game, i can't think of many recent games that have even matched it.
- jbhannah, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1The description behind the link says it best: This is HOT.
- loganhid, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3Looks great. I hope it has many of the gaming elements of C&C but with better approach
- yournamehere, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1I'm not enthused about QuakeWars and I'm in the beta. It's not Quake, doesn't feel like Quake. It feels like a dumbed down version of Quake.
- RedHerringHack, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3From what I understand a Mac Game called Marathon was the prototype for Halo.
