- meanteen, on 10/11/2007, -41/+128Yes it did.
- Platysquirrel, on 10/11/2007, -6/+86Lack of hype will certainly help the time pass.
- Rocketman1882, on 10/11/2007, -11/+45*shrug* I still want Halo 3. It may not be as hyped, but I'll still buy it.
- DasteeZ, on 10/11/2007, -7/+32At least with the Halo 3 Beta, it gave everyone a chance to play the game and allow them to see if it's worth hyping the game up. For me, it didn't kill the hype. If anything, it made me want it more. I thought the beta was pretty good. They have a good amount of time to get feedback, and improve the game. I think by the time Halo 3 comes out; it will be amazing.
- terminal157, on 10/11/2007, -5/+26The backlash against Halo is such a clear case of people attacking something for being popular with no regard to its merits that it makes me vaguely disgusted with humanity.
- atomicpoet, on 10/11/2007, -13/+32I do online support for a certain corporation that sells a best-selling FPS. This corporation expects this game to not only sell well but to also motivate people to buy their custom hardware. So much is betting on this game being a success, they can't afford mere "hype". People *have* to know this game is perfect and this is *the* reason to buy their hardware. Hypothetically speaking, if this game were to be released as a beta prior to launch, it would be a marketing coup. Bad press is impossible if people already know what they're getting.
/is still abiding by the non-disclosure agreement - MatttK, on 10/11/2007, -9/+27I think people realised that it wasn't the second coming of Christ. It's just Halo and Halo really isn't all that special. It's just another FPS with another generic character fighting generic aliens. It might be good but it's nothing to kill for.
- omgsoemo, on 10/11/2007, -23/+39I think Halo ruined the Halo 3 hype
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -32/+48Am I the only one that thinks Gears of War isn't all that special?
- halosniper7, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16No.
by ending it it made people miss it. i miss it. it was the most fun ive ever had in a game. - AwesomeMonster, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15Maybe you should play it before getting disappointed about it.
- unknownsoldierX, on 10/11/2007, -5/+16If you're looking forward to a kick-ass steak diner, having a small appetizer isn't going to quell the anticipation of the main course.
- strictnein, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9August? Sept 25th is the release date.
- nreynolds, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12august? you're nuts.
anyways, I'm totally stoked for the single player campaign, I have a feeling some crazy stuff is gunna happen story-wise. CRAZY - virtualball, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Yes because you won't really get the Wow factor anymore. I remember the first time I played Halo 2, I said "woah, look at that, the banshee can do flips!" But now you know pretty much everything...
- eastbeast314, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9I think the hype has died down, for now. Bungie and MS are letting it build from the bottom up now that the beta is over.
The ARG will get people interested in the story again, and therefore Halo 3's campaign. (There are going to be magazine single player previews soon) MS is going to let that happen while building hype for the other Fall releases.
I have a feeling MS has far too much riding on this to not manage the hype perfectly. If they wanted hype, they'd release a CG commercial or another vidoc. (That will probably happen soon anyway) - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7i thought so until i played it.. then it almost justified a x360 purchase to me... almost
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9I think that the Halo 3 Beta was a bad move on Microsoft's part, they are getting a lot of feedback, but when they are stating that the graphics are pretty much complete and will be in 720p resolution that pretty much kills anything the fans want. Things like weapons and maps can be fixed with updates, but the actual game itself is what we played for the most part. This may have an impact on people rushing out to reserve it.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11Sorry, can't resist. Stop... Grammartime!
I think you mean "effect", not "affect". "Affect" is generally used as a verb (e.g. "to affect something") whereas "effect" is used as a noun (e.g. "the effect of something".)
To be pedantic, affect can also be used as a noun, and effect as a verb, but the meanings are totally different, and complicate matters further for someone who already can't tell the difference between the two words... Look it up in a dictionary. - Kbiscu1t, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10I think that it didn't "kill" it, only lowered it. I'm still hyped! Halo 3 Beta didn't show Single Campaign so we still have much to look forward to.
- pegisys, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7yeah the viral stuff was cool the first time, but now it seems that every thing has an ARG going
it's getting kinda old - Laiden, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7The campaign makes me buy the game, the multiplayer makes me keep playing.
- NnyDarko, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Quit yer bitchin.
- ichabod13, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8I'm ready to see how the single player turns out, but i'm not taking part in this viral campaigns this time around...so I guess the hype is dying down for me.
- trentasaurus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Does that mean Titanic is the best movie ever?
- Snorglorf, on 10/11/2007, -5/+9What a claim to fame.
- durant125, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8Hype is lower, FOR NOW. As soon as they are ready for release and show the new and improved HALO3 trailers, people will forget about the beta and hype will sky rocket again.
- warplayer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I believe this article and all the comments classify as hype, rendering the argument pointless. Besides, anyone remember H2 single player? Getting a few levels in and all of a sudden I'm playing as a covenant?! There will be surprises in store...
- rdsxminion, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6so basically you want halo 2 with better graphics... noob
- Comanche, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Who the hell cares if people are hyped on it. They are still going to buy it. /can't wait to finish the single player story.
- StepJoe, on 10/11/2007, -8/+11OK Butters, just leave me here, get me in 2 weeks and thaw me out.
I can't wait for the single player! - weeeeeeee, on 10/11/2007, -5/+8It may have killed it, but mostly because it satisfied my Halo hunger. I'll still be looking forward for it's release.
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Exactly. Every KID you know. Another reason to stay off it. I ***** hate gaming with 13 year olds.
- groovytrance, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6The writer has another thing coming if he thinks that just a few new maps and weapons are all that await us in Halo 3...
- HardwareLust, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2For me, the most enjoyable part of Halo has always been the single player campaign. Yeah, the MP will be fun, but it's not the whole deal, so I would say no.
I don't know if anyone has said this already, but the comment system sucks so bad, there's no way to tell. - bolshevikbear, on 10/11/2007, -5/+7it may have killed the hype, but how much more copies of "crackdown" did microsoft sell just so people could play the beta? It will still sell over a few million copies.
- Snorglorf, on 10/11/2007, -5/+7One of the most intelligent comments I've seen on Digg.
wasn't sarcasm. - pebcake, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It's "effect" damn it!
- Skee773r, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3No. It did not kill the Hype.. IT just left people hungry and thirsty for more Halo 3 Carnage plane and simple. If you think that playing 3 maps, with 6 different game types, without even the full customization of your Spartan, or game types is the best that Halo 3 will have to offer.. Then you are sadly mistaken.
- TheCash, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3This Iris thing isn't an ARG, it's not even a viral campaign. They call it a 'Spiral' campaign apparently, and it's just their attempt to hold players' interest by spoon feeding us background info on the Flood and the Forerunner that is going to be included in the CE and Legendary editions of the game anyway. Where I love bees enriched the universe of the game, and got people excited about revisiting that universe without actually giving away any actual plot points we didn't already know regarding the game, Iris is more like a stalling tactic. It reflects the same mentality that lead to the beta being released to the public months before the finished product shipped... sort of a 'lets just tease them a little with what they'll be getting in September,' kind of approach. Personally, I think they are fools for not sticking with the same formula they followed for Halo 2.
- latova, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I SAW YOUR COMMENT! Cookie plz.
- drummer1189, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6that is nonsense
- Cain141, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I'm still buying it; It's just not on my mind all the time.
- nuggetz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Nothing special about this title. This is why the hype is gone. Better shooters have been available for the PC for years. Nothing new here.
- IanPatterson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I got very bored, very fast
- ichabod13, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I think some of you are taking this post/article I wrote as an attack on Halo...maybe you should read the first paragraph. I just don't feel that the game is as popular to me right now, as other games/Halo 2 was at this same time.
- donnyburnside, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3^ Exactly.
- FuZi0nDET, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Single player for Gears was great I can't say the same about the multi-player. Its a good game but I wouldn't go so far as to say it could challenge the Halo franchise. Gears is 720p, Halo 3 is going to be 1080p and any one who says that won't make a big difference needs to get their eyes checked or has a ***** HDTV.
- Mrniceguyy99, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2HYPE... for what? 4 million copies of Halo 3 are pre-ordered, I think the game itself is all the hype it needs
- flaakmonkey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2The best console Shooters are not even usually the most popular. Halo is cool, or was, cause to me its not really looking any better than 1 or 2. Games like GRAW 2 and Blacksite Area 51 far better than Halo in the SP experince. Halo is just a sometimes fun MP game at best.
