DRM license transfer tool now available
majornelson.com — The DRM tool to transfer licenses for content purchased on the Xbox Live Marketplace has just been released. This will allow anyone who has purchased a new console, or had one replaced to (painstakingly) transfer the licenses to the new console in order to use all of the premium content while offline.

- Magus416, on 06/26/2008, -3/+4It may be late but at it's at least a step in the right direction. It is a pain in the ass though to have to download all your stuff again.
- litheon, on 06/26/2008, -2/+7If you choose a storage device with the content you want to download the licenses for already on it then it will only download the license when you start the download, so you don't have to download however many GBs of data to actually use the stuff offline without being signed in.
- CollapseControl, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1You know, I was wondering if that would work, but it didn't.
Did you try it?
What I did was for a video tho, not an arcade game. I had the LOST episode 1 downloaded a few months ago on my original 360. I got a new console and have the episode on my HDD. I went to my download history and click on the episode and hit DOWNLOAD AGAIN. It took a second and was complete. I then signed off and tried watching the vid and it didn't work.
- CollapseControl, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1You know, I was wondering if that would work, but it didn't.
- grayfx007, on 06/26/2008, -4/+3this is awesome, im almost out of space due to all the DLC from freakin Rock Band. Does anyone know if you can still use the DLC on the old hard drive after the transfer?
- xino, on 06/27/2008, -1/+1Your content is tied to the console, not the hard drive so if you transfer it to an X360, you can use any hard drive or memory unit you want on that X360 and it will work.
- xino, on 06/27/2008, -1/+1One thing that is unclear to me is if they will scan X360s for licensed content that has been revoked as a result of the transfer. They make it sound like as if it does, but that doesn't really give me confidence that is the case. I am in the perfect position to test this though because I downloaded the Heroic map pack for the first time when it became free on my friend's X360 on my account assuming that the DRM was taken away at the same time it became free, but that wasn't the case. The DRM is still on that map pack today which is annoying, but at least now I get to see what happens when I transfer it over to my X360.
- ridethepuppets, on 06/26/2008, -3/+4This makes me so happy, yet really annoyed. MS assured me through an ongoing email conversation that license transfer was impossible without the serial number of the original xbox. Anyways...glad it's sorted. My girlfriends over the moon cos she can now play all her arcade games again that were purchased through my account.
- dafin0, on 06/27/2008, -9/+4not really the best title that could of been picked "DRM license transfer tool now available" for what?
how low will my diggs go- LordSeth, on 06/27/2008, -0/+2In the gaming section and mentioning DRM. Xbox 360 is my first thought.
- Tophillious, on 06/27/2008, -2/+6The best gets better
- CollapseControl, on 06/27/2008, -1/+2The tool is pretty simple to use and doesn't take much time. I have over 1,000 licenses on my console but I don't plan on wasting a whole day redownloading. I will just download the content when I actually plan to use it.
36 Arcade games.
250 videos.
Yeah, i'm not going through all those videos. - 1jaxstate1, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1Great news...umm when did the Popular/Upcoming tabs move to the left?
- Fragarach87, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1Good news, but... I'd still rather a Spring Update :P
- crashingechelon, on 07/14/2008, -0/+1Well this was a disappointment of what I was expecting. When I first heard about this I thought it was going to be a little app to install on the 360 itself, like the XNA Game Launcher. Once I did that it would automatically relicense everything I've purchased to the new console. Well turned out you have to go through and redownload everything that you've purchased, easy my butt. Also content that isn't available on live anymore cannot have a new license downloaded. So only part of my consoles videos are relicensed.
