- MCHampster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+40Heh, "misleading"
I believe the word is "wrong". Are you a politician? :-) - RAT-Man, on 10/10/2007, -2/+34This is one of the stupidest price schemes I've ever seen. Get rid of the core or make the Premium and Elite the only SKU's.
- jacksons98, on 10/10/2007, -13/+39I was expecting more. Sony gives $100 off PS3 and includes 5 free Blu-rays and Microsoft's response is $20-50?? For a system built on two year old technology that doesn't seem very significant.
- MIKEAWESOME, on 10/10/2007, -4/+30[note: The Core is only getting a $20 price drop, I now realize my wording was misleading. Also of note is Circut City throwing in a free copy of Table Tennis with every Pro console purchase.]
- Hipple, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19That would have made way too much sense.
- rofflecopter, on 10/10/2007, -3/+21I still think it would of been better if they had changed the prices to $250 Core, $350 premium, and $400 elite. But a price drop is a price drop.
- rudy23, on 10/10/2007, -11/+25Apparently all new xboxes will come with prepaid return boxes to get refurb replacements when it fails.
- YouRookies, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15If it weren't for the failing 360's and adding the 3 year warrenty, MS probably could have afforded a $100 price drop too.
- UncleCrapper, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Uh, are all American retailers selling the 360 without any games whatsoever? With the Canadian dollar just shy of parity with the American dollar, we are paying roughly a $60 premium for a 360 over the American price here in Canada. However, just about every retailer here in Canada seems to make up the difference by throwing between one to four games in with the purchase (Forza 2 is included in the base package with some retailers throwing in Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Hitman and some worthless poker game).
I hope when the price does drop that the new prices in Canada will better reflect the value of the Canadian dollar. If so, the system prices should drop by another $50 (although I doubt they would continue to include a game at that price). - NicksVideo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12$20 + $30 = $50. Maybe that's what he meant by $50 on all models? Ha.
- cortez_a, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Buried as inaccurate. The ad clearly shows that only the pro model is getting a $50 drop. Core only gets $20 and the Elite only get $30...wtf is up with that? If anything the Elite should get at least a $50 cut.
- twister17e, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Not to mention (unless I'm blind) the Elite is only getting a $30 price drop. 1 for 3 isn't bad :P.
- locd32, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12Assuming your 360 isn't in the shop for repairs......
- NewChar, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9I dunno, I thought it was kind of funny, and I own a (working) 360.
- cdharrison, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Considering that a 64MB Memory Card for the 360 goes for around $40, and the 20GB HDD is only $99... people are retarded for buying the Core system. You pretty much HAVE to have some sort of storage device to play games on the 360.
The 360 seems like a good deal, but once you buy all the extra stuff that ought to come standard (e.g. Wi-Fi Adapter, HDD, Wireless Controller, Online Play), the 360 costs nearly as much as the "PSTriple", if not more. (For the record, I have a Wii and a 360.) - Tebixan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Most gamers assume the core is a pointless machine, but really, what would be the benefit of removing it? There are plenty of people out there who already have a core system, so they couldn't start making hard drive required games at this point. It's not like the pro & elite models are sold out, so the core isn't eating up production capacity.
The system lets casual games feel like they're getting a deal, and lets MS say they are selling 360's for under $300. It doesn't really hurt us any. Taking the core away would only help the Wii and PS3 - UlicBelouve, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5They ran from your onslaught of capital letters.
- rudy23, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6read "Please allow up to 60 seconds for your comment to be saved."
- locd32, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6I thought it was funny too and I own both a PS3 and a 360... /shrug
- zetec, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Any news on how much longer we need to wait for the 65nm-core processes to make their way in? Is it right with the price cut, or are we going to be waiting any longer? I've been waiting for the new core processes forever because I don't feel like having my system crap out on me. I can only wait until Ace Combat 6 comes out, then I'm buying one regardless of core size.
- smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4way to link to the comments too. please link to the top of the page next time.
- amandaw33, on 10/10/2007, -7/+11Also, the PS3 price drop is on the 60 gig models.. which are being phased out.. and no longer produced
- ExaltedDragon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5You are sooo right. Sony gives $100 off and the hardware includes so much more stuff, and MS responds (at least they responded at all) with a limp $30 off of the Elite? So if I add just $50 I can get Blue Ray, HDMI 1.3, etc etc? Does MS know that Sony is starting to sell more consoles?
- arunforce, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Why isn't this one gone? :(
- tommyredcoat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Because they have been buried below the comment viewing threshold.
- dunlop, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Was wondering this myself. My buddy purchased his Forza 2 Bundle last week and got 4 other free games.
Even if the games are not that great, I would rather spend $60 for the 5 games.
I bought my system 6 months ago, with LIVE Arcade (whoop), GRAW and a free wireless controller with recharge kit. - rohcky, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Regardless of how much it costs, I'm not getting a 360 until they fix the hardware issues.
- scheibs14, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Looks like you got it figured out now
- IEatHamburgers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Think of it this way: You're getting a great deal on U.S. 360's!
- locd32, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Fanboy comment. I'd say the games they both spit out now look about the same. The thing is, the PS3's will look better in the future ;/
- locd32, on 10/10/2007, -5/+7Holy ***** your history screams MS fanboy! Take it easy buddy it's only a console....put the controller down and take a step back.
- YouRookies, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6It still craps out on you, if not now...it will eventually.
- copper7op, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Because you touch yourself at night.
- fotbr, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Wii
- rudy23, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4so do I ;)
- MewTwo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah, seriously. Can't one own a console and acknowledge its' strengths and weaknesses?
- schoate09, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4STOP USING THE ***** CAPS BUTTON!
- Nin10dude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Well, people still buying crappy consoles isn't much of an incentive for them to switch to the smaller processors anytime soon.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+7and you will then be paying around $50 more than what I paid, with no HDMI no WiFi no free extra controller no card readers (what? they are kind of useful)
- tzmguitarist, on 10/10/2007, -10/+11If you buy the 360 HD-DVD player attachment you'll also receive 5 HD-DVDs. Just a thought.
- Tebixan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Unless the system has already been out for a couple years, or the retailer is having a special of some kind, most consoles don't come with games anymore down here. The last time I got a game with my console was the Sega Genesis
- totorototoro, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5Interesting that on the eve of the release of perhaps the Xbox360's greatest software lineup (Halo3, Assassins Creed, BioShock, Mass Effect) Microsoft feels they need a price cut to stimulate sales. I'll still wait for news of the new chipset myself, but this should move some boxes this summer.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Simple: Premium is "on clearance".
Just like the PS3. They (MS to retail) have only sold 0.9M 360s this entire year so far. So they surely have enough Premiums sitting around that they stopped making them long ago and are just selling existing stock. It will be replaced with something with HDMI when they run out.
If people say PS3 is "on clearance", well, Premium is too. At least PS3's price cut is 16%! - Crackhippo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1well from the RUMOURS that i've heard, Canada is getting $100 price drop...but no ads or anything has confirmed this. *Fingers Crossed*
- DextaRussell, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2That's sad..
- imacashew, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3well holy *****...they'd sell more if it costs less....what a radical idea...it's like they don't have a marketing department. /sarcasm
- YouRookies, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3The REAL response/apology is to replace the broken consoles. Until the RROD and Disk scratching is solved I will not get a 360. The PC keeps getting the 360's games so there is no reason to get one yet.
- ExaltedDragon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Its true it will move boxes, but mainly for the software. Many ppl will look to Sony and see that where there used to be $100-200 price difference between top end models, now, Sony's former top end model is only $50 shy of the Elite. Its good that MS lowered prices, but the amount that they lowered is not enough to offset the PS3 $100 discount.
- icsbase, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I guess this price drop was inevitable while PS3 and Wii are eating it's marketshare. XBOX360 isnt selling that good, especially in Japan but after the pricecut, it will be more attractive.
- CReyes4182, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Why don't you say the real reason? When your current 360 breaks and goes off to be repaired you can play your core system.
