- inactive, on 10/23/2007, -3/+56HD anchorman? So you can see that crazy ass scene when they are riding the unicorn in HD?
- NGliam, on 10/23/2007, -6/+43My local Blockbuster-cum-game-store doesn't even stock HD-DVDs D=
- SlvrEagle23, on 10/23/2007, -2/+38The Latin really makes that comment a whole lot sexier.
- robbiedo, on 10/22/2007, -9/+42That basically amounts to a free HD drive. Now, if they throw in some Ginsu knives...
- timpkmn89, on 10/23/2007, -5/+26I don't think any of them do. Blockbuster chose to carry Blu Ray only
- jesushitler, on 10/23/2007, -11/+31i already have a blu-ray player (PS3), but I'm very tempted to get an HD-DVD player for Anchorman, Transformers, and The Matrix Trilogy. It's hard to justify that to the wife though.
- dunlop, on 10/22/2007, -6/+25arg..I want them to bring these deals to Canada DAMNIT!!!!
- Radar3D, on 10/22/2007, -4/+21An average selling DVD outsells both combined 1000:1. HD is inconsequential for now.
- mageofdeath, on 10/22/2007, -9/+23since when do ps3's cost 300 dollars?
- Nickbc87, on 10/22/2007, -4/+16Then you should probably turn the vacuum cleaner off!!
- mrASSMAN, on 10/22/2007, -0/+11Yeah I hate competition too, it only benefits the consumer who gives a ***** about them..?
- TheWorm, on 10/22/2007, -5/+16Sorry to hear you still have to use Blockbuster.
- duke_nate, on 10/22/2007, -5/+16I'm sorry for you.
- BlueSkyfish, on 10/22/2007, -5/+15Blockbuster always sucked. Netflix has them though.
- xtc46, on 10/21/2007, -0/+10no way, come to the US with your newly powerful Canadian money and buy it for cheap!
- contradictator, on 10/22/2007, -0/+10You know what? That's the friendliest invitation from an American to Canadians I've ever seen. =P
Heck, I wanna be pals with our neighbors south of our border again, and a deal like this with the current currency exchange? A diplomatic visit to the good ol' U.S. of A. seems like a great idea! - BHRecon, on 10/22/2007, -2/+12LOL at the poster mad his IP was logged... thats what u get for being a retard and posting under more than one alias.. really.... "my nutz are itchy".... grow up
- Xlr8ed, on 10/22/2007, -2/+12Dugg for saving the Cheerleader!
- NGliam, on 10/22/2007, -4/+13I'm pretty sure he meant 360+360 HD-DVD drive.
- xyphur, on 10/22/2007, -1/+10HD-DVD content doesn't have to be output digitally to benefit from the added resolution the format provides. Component cables (RGB) and an HD display capable of progressive scanning is all you need to see the HD difference.
Of course going up to HDMI will benefit you further, but the difference is negligible. Especially more so than the difference between RCA/S-video cables and component ones. - dunlop, on 10/22/2007, -1/+10Thanks for the invite : ) But to live in a land where the lives of our hockey players are not on the front page of the newspapers......I would probably freak out :P
- edicius, on 10/22/2007, -2/+10Not to mention that the players also ship with King Kong on HDDVD as well.
- xtc46, on 10/22/2007, -0/+8or one of the new premiums with HDMI (not elite)
- Roads01, on 10/21/2007, -0/+8This doesn't even make sense.
- xyphur, on 10/22/2007, -1/+9The Xbox 360 HD-DVD player also works on PCs, for those who care... ;)
I remember reading about it somewhere when the drives were first released. - NeonElixir, on 10/22/2007, -0/+8It's an instant discount, not a rebate.
- thejokell, on 10/23/2007, -3/+11The original 175 or so stores that had HD DVDs still have them. Their expansion only included Blu-Ray, but they didn't drop HD DVD.
- greekgoat91, on 10/22/2007, -7/+14the war continues...
that's a pretty amazing deal, but desperate times call for desperate measures. I'm not sure how true this is bout I've seen some articles that are saying that Blu-ray discs are outselling HD-DVD discs by 4:1 or 3:1. pretty crazy numbers. - faizal5k, on 10/23/2007, -9/+16sorry to hand it to ya buddy...but Blockbuster is only stocking Blu-Ray on their shelves. But they still have HD-DVD on their online rental site. who cares...blockbuster sucks anyway. I'm with NetFlix :)
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20070618-bloc ... - Scott802, on 10/22/2007, -2/+9Blockbuster online carries HD DVD and Blu Ray.
- cfulp, on 10/22/2007, -0/+6Yeah but then we'd have to buy a system with no games :o(
- Rileyper, on 10/22/2007, -1/+7You know what, I hear these complaints on a daily basis!!! Why don't you come to the U.S. and come join the party...not hatin, i love canada, they produce ducktape to fix our...Everything. all you need to do is sign a few papers and boom, your a Canadian US American.
- mythicflux, on 10/22/2007, -2/+8And there are just as many for BluRay. The problem is that at current BluRay media is outselling HD-DVD. There are more BluRay players in the market because of the PS3. The HD-DVD add-on for the Xbox 360 isn't selling as well as the PS3. Figures I can find should a 5 to 1 count of PS3 versus the 360 add-on. This is to say that while the 360 is far outselling the PS3 the number of people buying the add-on are far less that people buying PS3's. Toshiba has had to make ridiculous deals with studios to support HD-DVD (For example paying $150 million to Paramount for an 18 month HD-DVD exclusive agreement which could amount to Paramount re-releasing their stuff in BluRay after the deal is done ). Some major studios are completely with BluRa ( example: Disney. They are BluRay exclusive and have been since the get go. Considering how big they are and the size of the family market it seems unlikely that HD-DVD will win based on that alone.) Also consider the movie 300. This was both BluRay and HD-DVD, it sold 2 to 1 in favor of BR. Additionally companies like BestBuy have stated that they are in the BluRay camp (at my local store they have an entire row of BluRay movies as opposed to a smaller section 1/4 the size for HD-DVD).
This isn't to say that HD-DVD can't pull it around. Obviously BestBuy could be warming to HD-DVD (this sale is an example). HD-DVD players are up the last couple months, though is seems related to Transformers and Heroes. Obviously time will tell but so far it seems that HD-DVD is still playing the catch up game.

http://www.redherring.com/Home/22602 - seanjanis, on 10/21/2007, -2/+8i bought my 360 hd dvd player about 2 months ago and i'm still waiting for my 5 free movies...thanks rebate company...
- NeonElixir, on 10/22/2007, -1/+6I'm in just to get a cheap HD player. I look forward to Transformers in HD! =D
- jaymulder, on 10/23/2007, -13/+18Dugg. Heroes rocks.
- NSMike, on 10/22/2007, -1/+6I would get it if it was Planet Earth instead of Heroes. Not that I don't like Heroes, but Planet Earth is some top grade HD show-off material there.
- mcnasby, on 10/22/2007, -1/+6A friend of mine found out about this deal earlier this week. I suggested that he get the HD-DVD drive before the ad hits on Sunday, since everyone will probably buy the drive this week and then return/rebuy on Sunday. Needless to say, he went to Best Buy tonight and they had ONE left in the entire district (Philadelphia area). So that's just a warning for anyone rushing tomorrow morning with hopes of scoring a great deal -- most people already hopped on this deal last week -- you might be a couple days too late (even though the sale has barely started)!
- ZenMojo, on 10/21/2007, -2/+7This is why I hope the console wars drag out....
- skinjester, on 10/22/2007, -4/+8can I return the Kong HDDVD for something, you know... entertaining?
- WhereAmI, on 10/22/2007, -2/+6Now THATS howto post a response. This isn't. I'm going to write and ask for Transformers on Blu-Ray, I think everyone that likes Blu-Ray should be like "Hey, I want to watch this on my PS3. What the hell?"
- dunlop, on 10/22/2007, -2/+6Actually my Xbox is used 7 days a week and works flawlessly. Just wanted to show that i can make ***** up too. For the record the drive will work in a PC while you wait.....
- faizal5k, on 10/22/2007, -2/+6Yea true. Amazon has better deals though. They once had 8 FREE HD-DVDs with a 360 HD-DVD add-on or 10 FREE Blu-rays with a purchase of a PS3.
- inactive, on 10/22/2007, -0/+4Sucker!
- einsiders, on 10/22/2007, -1/+5Just as an FYI... Ultimate Matrix on HD-DVD rocks, but it'll eventually be released by Warner (though no release date yet). As an Xbox 360 hd-dvd player owner myself, the free Heroes DVD is a fantastic deal but also slightly puzzling. From my own personal experience this set in particular is buggy (but also backed up by others http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/index.php?acti ... The episodes look great but the extras occasionally lock up the console. Not exactly the ideal release to showcase the 360 hd-dvd player. Transformers is a big selling point, but until more titles start getting released, both bluray and hddvd will still have trouble gaining traction outside of early adapters like myself.
- teqonix, on 10/21/2007, -0/+3It's only a player if you have a 360 to go along with it, so I would certainly say it's still a peripheral/accessory..
- scootinger, on 10/22/2007, -8/+11Or....just sign up for a Sony Card offer with a $100 credit after ANY purchase (not just Sony) then buy a 360 HD-DVD drive. (See http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.php?ca ... for more info)
- LukusLuke, on 10/22/2007, -1/+4Dugg for the commenter on the blog, who became more of a jackass every comment.
- tamtamg, on 10/22/2007, -0/+3i tried getting the two extra hddvds and the manager said no. any advice?
