- MechaZain, on 10/10/2007, -4/+96Concerning Halo DS: "Ultimately it's up to Microsoft to decide if and when they take Halo to a different platform."
So I'm thinking "no." Damn. - Cyber_Akuma, on 10/10/2007, -1/+84MS, Rare and Bungie have commented before that they don't have a problem with making DS and PSP games (especially DS) because they don't plan to make a handheld so they see it as profit to them instead of helping the competition. Don't expect PS3 or Wii games though.
- EvanVolm, on 10/10/2007, -6/+61I think Bungie should go back to the PC/Mac. It'd be interesting to see what they'd do.
- RoadDoggFL, on 10/10/2007, -2/+52Skip the sensational headline crap:
"Kotaku: With this new independence are you allowed to start playing around with developing titles for Nintendo and Sony?
Brian Jarrard: For the foreseeable future we're focused on Microsoft platforms and the Xbox and Xbox 360 have obviously been very good to us."
Shocker. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+39Age of Empires was on the DS, so you never know...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21If they remake Marathon using today's technology I'd be all over it
- snarkleclackers, on 10/10/2007, -7/+26The first thing I thought of when I read 'Halo DS' was, "Oh crap. This is 'Halo 5: Master Chief and Friends Superstar Adventures in Dreamland', with such a lengthy introductory sequence that no one actually starts playing the game until Halo 6 is released."
Here's the video I'm referencing: http://www.loadingreadyrun.com/videos/view/228
and if you want to skip straight to the part about Halo 5 (nintendo edition), move to 2:24 - SSCrow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19Microsoft owns the Halo franchise.
Microsoft chooses what platforms Halo can be made for. - spiffytech, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19Only in some parts of the world.
- loganhid, on 10/10/2007, -6/+20yes MS Cheques do that
- colincornaby, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Huh? First, Rare did Conker's, not Bungie. Secondly, Microsoft gets first dibs on publishing a game, but they can't stop Bungie from making a game. If Bungie makes a game and Microsoft turns it down, Bungie is free to go to a different publisher with the game.
- gungaroo22, on 10/10/2007, -4/+18Comment dug for truth.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13How would that make sense?
- jcaino, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12but they could make money on it.
- ryansmith18, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10...you obviously have no idea what you are talking about.
- MarvelingOne, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10hmm no mention of them working on Pimps at Sea, how tragic
- Ghoztt, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12If id can remake DooM.... Bungie can remake Marathon. Please, oh please, oh pretty, pretty please!
- iheartjebus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8what, id remaking doom???? seriously? am I seriously out of some loop here???
- Trel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Almost right. From what I read, when Bungie can work on whatever they want, and Microsoft gets first pick on if they want to publish it. If they don't then Bungie is free to get a different publisher.
- kingfoot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7but bungie can now make OTHER games that are just as great for whomever they choose.
- estvir, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I think he meant to say:
man, I really wish they'd make an [good] FPS for the wii. - monkeyrun, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8In conclusion they did not say anything new.
- vhold, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Agreed. Most of those responses were complete happy rainbow marketing speak and shed light on nothing at all.
- iheartjebus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5well, you mean don't expect PS3 or Wii versions of Halo anything. The way I understand it, Microsoft only retains ownership of the Halo license. Bungie can now make other games on those systems though.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5except that Microsoft still owns the rights to Halo
- noamchomskeet, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I would argue your statement that Halo would still be a giant if not under MS control. The original Halo was a RTS game that was not even a FPS, and it became popular because of Xbox and it's controls and gameplay being totally unique to that spectrum. As a PC/Mac game, Halo would have to compete with games that looked 10x better and played better than it, without all the MS money supporting development. Oni was released for the PC, and it sucked, graphics were also not spectacular or anything else about it. My belief is that the best thing to happen to Bungie is that they got bought out by MS. I also am weary of whatever game they release next, as it won't be as unique as Halo, and we all know the single player storyline for Halo sucks. They need better writers.
- MrObjectional, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5No, Microsoft has the first shot at publishing Bungie games. If MS says no Bungie can go to Nintendo, Sony, EA, Ubisoft, THQ, or any other publisher.
- hunchback, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5fcuk, sorry double post ... the first one didn't show up earlier ... please bury ...
- Phantomstar, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I want Halo DS.
Seriously, just pick up where they left off and release it. I want that game bad. - ShosuroYuu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I don't know, but I assume that the original terms of the sale of Bungie to MS included a clause for Bungie to buy itself back. Just a guess though.
- FreDre, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Doom 3 is more or less a remake of Doom
- Sikarian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3While naturally I might be upset at my original idea being wrong, this sounds awesome enough that I'm a-okay with it.
- Nereus90, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Browwiw. What a douche bag.
- DarkShroud, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Resident Evil 4 is a good FPS. A wii version of Marathon to keep it company in my collection would be nice.
- Flynnz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I think it could be fun.....would be nice to have a decent FPS on the DS with some wireless multi. honestly, I would have to say that it would sell amazing. As long as the gameplay is decent of course.
- shrimp199, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3have u ever played resident evil....
- KAMiKAZOW, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Resident Evil 4 is a FPS?
- Jakerius, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Wrong.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Untitled_Halo_Project - CarzorStelatis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Or he meant that:
man, I really wish they'd [Bungie would] make an FPS for the Wii - iheartjebus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5uh, sorry, but the goal of any corporation is to make money. If Microsoft envisioned their video game division losing money in the long run they wouldn't be in it at all.
- CarzorStelatis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3No. Microsoft has first refusal on being the _publisher_, not the _platform_. So if Bungie were to make (for example) a remake of Marathon for the Wii, Microsoft would be able to choose whether they wanted to publish it or not. They wouldn't be able to force Bungie to make it for the 360.
- battletrax, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Storyline sucks? For halo 2 yes. But lets forget halo 2 happened. At least the single player aspect.
- snarkleclackers, on 11/04/2007, -0/+2Correction: Douche Bag
- mythicflux, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3What's funny is that this interview just confirmed that the Halo DS demo shown this past week IS real.
Kotaku: The whole Halo on the DS rumor just doesn't want to die, do you see that in the cards?
Brian Jarrard: This rumor has been circulating for a while and as you know we even saw some real life screens and assets this week. Ultimately it's up to Microsoft to decide if and when they take Halo to a different platform. That particular demo was in fact created and I believe it was an unsolicited pitch a long time ago but nothing ever came of it. - Christbait, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Why do Sony and Nintendo fans care if Halo came on to their platform? It's highly unlikely though. But all you've done so far is bash it and the 360, so you don't really deserve it.
- inkswamp, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Bungie may own themselves, but MS owns a sizeable chunk of their IP. Best of luck to Bungie. I was once one of their biggest fans (has spent hours of my life entrenched in the complex stories behind Marathon, Oni and Myth.) If they hadn't sold out to MS in the first place, Halo would probably have still been the massive phenomenon it is today except it wouldn't be owned and controlled by a company whose only interest is using it as leverage to move more of their game units. Those of you who think Halo is coming to DS should think again.
- Edrick, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Microsoft owns all rights to Halo, it won't be showing up on other consoles.
- iheartjebus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3by "they", I specifically meant Bungie. And of those games, RE:4 is the only good one, and I'd already beaten the ***** out of it numerous times on gamecube already.
- celkin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3MS will write you a check if you never say that again
- KAMiKAZOW, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The DS is probably the best console for FPSes, but it's seldom used for them. Any good FPS is welcome on DS.
