- loganhid, on 10/10/2007, -28/+157If OXM gave Halo 2 9.7/10 then i'm not satisfied with their review of Bioshock
- DBiz, on 10/10/2007, -5/+66Here's a couple more things from the review:
-Inconceivably great plot
-Tough, scary combat
-Perfect location design
-Stunning soundtrack and audio effects
-Endless variety of weaponry
I need Rapture now!! - thejwac, on 10/10/2007, -4/+62Why isn't this a link to the interview?
- oriondr, on 10/10/2007, -32/+84Halo got 9.5... whats the lowest score possible? 9?
- elbriano, on 10/10/2007, -2/+51Also, PCGamer gave it a 95%.
- Scaryclouds, on 10/10/2007, -14/+61Since we all know Halo is such a bad game.
I'm not saying you have to love Halo, but to sit there an act like it is only an average or worse game is just plain stupid. - TheNik, on 10/10/2007, -2/+36Digg is starting to piss me off lately. The comments section used to be a (fairly) intellectual place, but now it's just filled with anti-popular elitists and people who's main argument are using big words in retort.
Please just grow up, Digg commentators... please. :"( - emjaymj, on 10/10/2007, -17/+48Seriously... giving Halo scores like that means Bioshock could still be crap.
- lazyc0mmunist, on 10/10/2007, -17/+48Wow, you're all so hip for not liking Halo. I for one, applaud your responses and your stick it to the man attitude. Good day sirs.
- drakhoan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+31Bioshock is the name of the game, rapture is the place, and electroshock is retarded
- celkin, on 10/10/2007, -3/+33SEVEN thumbs up.
- psg188, on 10/10/2007, -9/+38Agreed, all that proves is they surrender to hype
- muleking, on 10/10/2007, -19/+41.3 better than Halo 2 isn't very good. All I can remember from Halo 2 were a slew of uninspired missions where i was riding on floating platforms and elevators killing the same 2 enemies over and over... yuck. When you strip away the hype, halo 2 is a strong 7.
- smellytim, on 10/10/2007, -3/+23i dont really trust any oxm's ratings after the US version gave Fight Night 3 a 10/10.
- LMN8R, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20Jesus....
"I spend my career, and my gaming life, waiting for a moment when a game just astonishes me, when I can't believe what I'm seeing, what I'm doing. Bioshock has five."
That's a quote from the PC Gamer UK review. I can't wait for this game. - EochaidRiata, on 10/10/2007, -5/+24Compare it to other console shooters that came out in 2000-2001. Halo was the best thing since Goldeneye on N64.
- lord2800, on 10/10/2007, -5/+23Two years? Is that all? Counter-strike 1.6 STILL has people playing, and it's been out for EIGHT YEARS. Halo 2 is nothing compared to CS.
- KidVicious, on 10/10/2007, -11/+29Hmm, I don't think having a linear storyline makes Halo suck. I'm not some Halo fanboy, but Halo to me was (and is) incredibly fun. The story was entertaining and the gameplay was also. I don't have some checklist that I consult to determine whether or not a game is good. It's unfortunate if the gameplay and/or story doesn't entertain you, but the original Halo does not suck.
- neoian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Rapture is the game's location.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -8/+23And the Official PlayStation Magazine gives Metal Gear Solid 4 a 10/10....why aren't we surprised?
- deadbaby, on 10/10/2007, -10/+25Halo was the first time most non-PC gamers got to experience a modern FPS game that didn't suffer you typical porting (PC->Console) problems. Personally I think it's mediocre but I can understand why a 13 year old playing it for the first time thought it was so amazing.
- Scaryclouds, on 10/10/2007, -7/+20..who the ***** orders a special edition? Will the metal case make the game more fun to play?
- radish01001, on 10/10/2007, -13/+26Hell, if they gave Halo 1 a 9.5 then neither am I. Dugg though because this game looks amazing, glad to read a positive review!
- Tempest811, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16Since when is Halo a benchmark of what a game SHOULD get. It's clear that the popular opinion of Halo 1 is varied and most people thought Halo 2 wasn't an improvement. If anything it makes this article less credible.
- MatttK, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12But if it is popular to be an anti-popular elitist, aren't you being an anti-popular elitist by hating anti-popular elitists? :)
- Gizza, on 10/10/2007, -6/+18I love how he states "To put this in perspective Halo got 9.5/10 and Halo 2 got 9.7/10"
The only perspective this shows is that this magazine consistently scores games way too high. - deadhead05, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12That should be the title, it's the only review that matters.
- RiverBelow, on 10/10/2007, -17/+28Bash Halo 2 all you want. It still has one of the highest online populations almost TWO YEARS after its release. It outsold almost every game (I think GTA is the only one that sold more, and GTA has an PS2 & xbox version, referring to San Andreas). I thought that Halo 1 had an incredible campaign, Halo 2 had a moderate campaign, but the multiplayer was absolutely incredible, and its better than anything I've ever seen. BioShock is going to completely redefine what the Campaign of a game is though, I guarantee that.
- vagrantwade, on 10/10/2007, -8/+19No way! a 10/10 from the highly acclaimed Game Informer magazine?! Wait what? OXM? Oh...
- MagikOvenMit, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13This means it's as good as Fight Night: Round 3.
- Gizza, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Why?
It appears to me from your ability to post on Digg that you do in fact have an Internet connection, and thus meet that particular requirement for activation. - Dracusis, on 10/10/2007, -5/+14I never understood the hype about Halo. Perhaps it's because I'm more of a PC gamer than a console gamer, but I found both Halo and Halo 2 rather boring and many other games did everything they did beforehand, and most of them did it better.
- Shigun, on 10/10/2007, -9/+18Dude, what the hell? Split screen has been around LONG before Halo 2. It's not like Bungie Studios magically thought up split screen for their multiplayer. And how can split screen possibly suck. You take 2 or more players. You take their views. You take the screen and split it for the number of players, putting each of their views on a section. Voila, Split screen.
- zwanathan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Who cares what halo got.
- tysonkad, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9electroshock?
- Phyltre, on 10/10/2007, -4/+12Wait, uninstalled...you mean the PC version? You're judging a console game by the PC port/version that came out years after its release? Of course it's going to seem awful!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13Wow, 10/10. It might be hard to get $60 worth out of a single-player only FPS, but with reviews like this it looks like it's going to be worth it.
- pegisys, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12bioshock crap? I know it's a buy for me just because of how good the system shock games were.
also this game has pretty much no hype, and has gotten high reviews from a few other sources as well - Phyltre, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11Oh, I dunno, maybe the same kind of person who buys movie merchandise, or t-shirts from a band, or anything else related to an intellectual property. You know, a fan of something. But nobody does those things, right?
- akira117, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9You mean $50 :P
- JudgeMonkey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Holy crap. I work hard for my money and I'm getting the special edition too. When it's any of your business how I spend my money I'll let you know.
- us3r11, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Um it is a 360 and PC exclusive at the moment...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11Halo was only good because most people who played it had never played an FPS before. If you're used to Quake or anything of the like, then Halo was pretty damn boring.
Especially the ***** library level. I stopped playing the game because of that horrible level design. It was subpar, but had a good story, that's about it.
I mean, it was okay, but best game ever? Hardly. - dagger57331, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Actually something that OXM has said in the past to the fact that people really get pissed when they give perfect scores, is that 10 does not mean the game is perfect. Their scale actually goes to 11 which is labeled "The Mecha Godzilla of Games/The Unicorn" It is described as being completely impossible to achieve. To them 10 is just like a game that they could play forever and that the flaws were so small, and so overshadowed they could have cared less. I'm not saying I agree with their system or scale, just pointing out how they work at OXM at least in the US version.
- felman87, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Starcraft's been out longer. There's a game that deserves the 10's it got.
- imikedaman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6What the hell dude, your list has four games that aren't out yet and SEVEN of them aren't first-person shooters.
- PacoDG, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I understand that the review is from a print magazine, but I hope someone in that thread (specifically the original poster) can either transcribe the review and/or get scans up.
- pr3d4t0r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6North America: 8/21
Europe / Australia: 8/24
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BioShock - whoaohh, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7its downhill from here.. the more users we get the worse itll get. i remember the good old days of a year ago.
- orlyfactor, on 10/10/2007, -18/+23Halo 2 is awesome. I don't have nearly as much fun playing any other game when friends are over. Games today don't have split screen, or if they do, it sucks. Halo has an awesome split screen mode, and I think a 9.7 was warranted.
