Simply Amazing - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Yeah, that was funny. Ive never seen the blog hater community try so hard to destroy a microsoft thing then fail so baddly. Lol, you guys got pwned.
- kicksave, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6To me this is the best Video Game I have ever played in my 32 years of life to date. I love me the GTA series and Halo series, but nothing has changed my ideas of what video games can be like BioShock. It is an amazing game and brilliant story. A story that is plausible, which is why it hits so much better than other storys. I have the 360 version, so I have no complaints over DRM and multiplayer would make no sense.
- zepoldesign, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Great f'n game top to bottom (except for that DRM crap the PC players experienced). Possibly game of the year for the 360. We'll see once Halo 3 comes out.
- danielman94, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5And I would have shipped more, too, if it weren't for those meddling DRMs?
- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Bioshock has shipped over 1.5 million copies for those who ask
http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=15446 - mike81890, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4"Having a multiplayer component would have compromised the story we were trying to tell so we made the decision to keep this game as a single player experience."
~Elizabeth Tobey, - toppgun, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6if you cannot appreciate the story then you are "***** stupid"
- ngmcs8203, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4And I played it 4 or 5 times up until I unwrapped the package. It still means we each downloaded it once and that's what they're counting.
- strictnein, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I hope for a prequel actually.
- Destruckt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Atmospheric games make you feel like you're playing a movie. It's deserved the reviews its been getting.
- LegendarySock, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3BioShock kicks ass, it will probably win Game of the Year unless Halo 3 can pull it off.
- estvir, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Why not focus on more than one thing or only one thing but at different times?
- dandonia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The point is (you incomplete set of spanners) that many people downloaded the demo because they were interested in the game - some because they had read the review, some because their friends had told them how god dam good it is and others because it was a new game on the market place to download. I personally have them all, but i dont rush to get them all like i did bioshock. Just like i want to own a lot of games that come out but i dont rush to get them like i did bioshock.
The demo was awesome and i dont see many people that played it saying "This sucks i aint buying it". Everyone i know was like, "Bioshock is amazing, i want it right now." then it was released and everybody got it straight away. - dandonia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You can compare all games to one an other you just have to be dedicated at scoring them acuratly. Assign 8 attributes and be realistic about them.
Graphics - 20% - most people will say graphics dont make the game but then rave how bioshock is one of the best out.
Controls - 20% - as proved by lair and that sucky vampire game the controls are one of the biggest aspects of a game if they suck it takes a big chunk out
Story - 10% - If the story is imersive and brilliant the game could be worth picking up even if its just as a rentle
Single Player - 10% - How the game plays and feels on single player, how long did it keep you there
Multiplayer - 10% - How the game plays and feels on muliplayer, how long did it keep you there
Sound - 10% - Sound is one of the most over looked aspects of games and is one of the reasons bioshock is so amazing to play
Features/Lifespan - 20% - Compare FIFA07 with Pro Evo 6 and you will see that Pro Evo was really lacking in features but was probably better in every other way. As a result FIFA still got the higher rating because even if you didnt love one part of it you probably would another part and there was enough to keep you playing until 08 came out.
If you rate games like this your average "great game" will be at 70% which is why people often dont rate it like this. Nobody wants to buy a game that is only 70% and nobody likes to think of games like bioshock at about that mark but thats what they are on a whole and is the only fair way to compare.
Graphics = 20 - some of the best seen on console ever
Story = 10 - fantastic story that really gets you to play the game
Controls = 15 = great controls that suit the game are only flawed by constantly having to switch between weapon and plasmoid and some people wont like the constant jackin up though that helps make the game intense. Nothing really inivative or particularly amazing though control wise.
single player = 10 - Amazing single player that really meets all the hype
Multiplayer = 0 - MIA
Sound = 10 really helps the game emerse you and build up your emotions and at some points freak you out. GREAT
Features / Lastability = 5 Average player complete within a week then play again when the new plasmoids come out via DLC. No extra featues to be seen such as a story mode reviewer to catch players up, no multiplayer means your not gonna play this all year and the game in no terms matches oblivion for size. Some hard achievements that might give someplayers the need to play again but not for your average joe shmo.

Bioshock as a whole game scores a 70
--------------
People who have actually been bothered to read this are now offended by bioshock having a 70 when it is so dam amazing. Its true its one of the best games out but its not going to keep people playing it forever which is a big issue with any game. Personally its my favorite legnth of a games single player but the lack of multiplayer effects the games long term.
Compare it to Goldeneye (when it first came out) using the same review system
Graphics = 20 (at the time) They were the best graphics in any game ever made on a console.
Story = 9 - One of the best bond films ever made and has a brilliant story with some good acting and voice over, it really kept me playing to find out = (I hadnt seen the movie yet)
Controls = 20 - At the time Goldeneye had a perfect control scheme that would still be good in todays games. This was the first shooter i had played where the controls felt perfect and the strafing was exactly how it needed to be.
single player = 10 - Amazing single player that really meets all the hype.
Multiplayer = 10 - That good that i still from time to time pick it up with some friends and play it. At the time it was the best multiplayer game on a console (dont know bout pc)
Sound = 7 - It was pretty good sound wise, hearing the bond tune kick in and the shots were good, it wasnt something that wasn't brilliant about the game but it did well
Features / Lastability = 20 Players could choose which level they wanted to play which was great for people that wanted to master each individual level, I cant tell you how many times i played the facility or the bunker. I can say that even today i know the names of most the levels which is a testimony to how long i played the game. I can actually visualise the maps including where the bad guys were and how they reacted. The single player had different difficulty levels and you had to complete certain levels on each difficulty in a certain time to unlock things. Paint ball mode anyone? I dare say most people who had the game played each level more than 5 times. I played the facility and bunker levels for longer time periods than i have played most games. So the single player was good enough for repeate play multiple times then the multiplayer kicked ass on any game out there at the time. Remote Mines FTW! with plety of options, lots of unlockables including players, levels and silly modes like paint ball. This game at the time truly was the very best game out.
Golden Eye total games score = 96 - strictnein, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Oh just go stfu. Like someone who is 32 started out gaming on a console and has never played games on a PC. Ridiculous.
- Christbait, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Oh, and to add to my post - I borrowed this game off a friend and it was 5x better for me after completing it then having another go! Great fun!
- emperor799, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12K Games HAS announced...
You're talking about a single company, so you use the singular past-tense form of to have. - JimJimBinks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The PC version of the game didn't work for me, so I got it for the 360. I Emailed valve asking for a refund (Since I bought it off Steam) And never heard anything. I Emailed them again a couple of days ago and said "Would you kindly give me a refund." Less than an hour later I got an Email saying they've refunded my credit card.
- dandonia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1got mine in under an hour
- Sarzec, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Number of downloads might be a little higher if they let folks outside of the US download it..
- xino, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Although I would have loved to see Bioshock as a multi-player game, I am not pissed that it wasn't. At the same time, I think that is a lame excuse. In some games, the multi-player is better and in others the single player is better, but multi-player has never compromised the story of a game. The only cause of a story sucking or being awesome in a video game are the game developers work at the single player aspect of the game.
- sowhat5828, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Halo 3 can't compete with this game since it is completely different to Bioshock. Bioshock is about using your brains and the emotion of a fps storyline. Halo 3 is all about multiplayer and marketing
- rowlodge, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1rented it, just to see the rest of it, it kinda made me claustrophobic, glad i made it to the end though.
- Joeshie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Great game, but I would much rather not see a sequel.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+23 years, awesome.
- whitetrash, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I downloaded the demo - and am thankful, I was considering buying it, then I played it, hated everything about it (except the graphics). It was much more convenient to delete the demo than try and sell the game off.
- Christbait, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2No wonder it took anyone with a relatively fast connection over 12 hours to download on the day the demo was out, then.
- mike81890, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Sigh.. i hope no sequel...
- wafflesomd, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Too bad the game is shallow and overall boring.
- Kurisuku, on 10/10/2007, -7/+6It's okay.
It's not System Shock 2, that's for sure.... - xino, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I haven't even played the full version of Bioshock and I know I will like it more than Halo 3 campaign because I was never a Halo campaign fan to begin with and I really liked the demo of Bioshock. Halo 3 will still keep my interest longer because of the multi player. I still wouldn't say that one is better than the other, but I will say that in general, a good multi player game has more replay value than a good single player game and so with that said, I don't find it fair to compare a single player only game with a single player and multi player game as a whole. Instead, you should be comparing Bioshock with only the single player aspect of Halo 3.
- dalittle, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1With the level of complaining about the DRM and widescreen issue (myself included) I am not surprised. In a warped way, all of the user complaining is a really big complement as you only bitch and moan about what you care about and in this case want to play. Congrats to them, I hope the wait for the next one is not three years though.
- CanIGetAWitness, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Great, 1 sold, 1 not. Now if we can just get the other 999,998 downloads to chime in we can have a real stat. The count is as pointless as your reply and mine, but I had 20 seconds to kill.
- scabbers, on 10/10/2007, -5/+3If they sold that many, there was no need whatsoever to put securom on it... just count up the TPB downloads - barely 5,000.
- mike81890, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1but Halo 3 will win because of the hype machine and fan boy-ism. I had a friend who swore Bioshock would suck because of the lack of multiplayer. I told him of the multitude of 10/10 reviews, but he looked for any excuse why Halo 3 would be better.
- tomz17, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1I bet you have never been a PC gamer then.... IMHO, Bioshock is an OK game, but it is far from anything revolutionary.. I'm playing through it, but given all of the hype, I'm thoroughly underwhelmed.
- wiiaboo, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3Would've probably shipped more, if it weren't for that meddling SecuROM.
- sephiroth4, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1I agree it was overhyped.....although thinking was required to kill efficiently. It's great to hold me over until CoD4 and UT3!!!!!!!! mario kart, ssmb, guilty gear, dbz3, etc. also! PS2 is getting major playtime recently also with Persona 3 and Odin Sphere. Sorry.....digg me down
- LowROI, on 10/10/2007, -13/+2I really didn`t see what all the hype was about. It had some great visuals, but the story was ***** stupid IMO. Multiplayer would have been nice too.
- endlessraining, on 10/10/2007, -14/+1Bioshock lolz
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -16/+2Shouldn't we focus on copies sold?
- CanIGetAWitness, on 10/10/2007, -17/+2I guess I'll state the obvious, So What. A demo is free and only a point of interest. How many of those got deleted right after playing it once? Mine did. Doesn't mean it's a bad game or a good game, just has interest/hype and there are more Live users than in the past.
Like DarkSamus above, how much $ is it making is defining.
