- amrush4th, on 10/23/2007, -7/+169This is why I like when they focus on just one console when making a game. When you develope for multiple platforms you can't play to the strenghts of either one, and and limited by the weaknesses of both.
- thax, on 10/19/2007, -9/+158Maybe they should rethink trying to cram 5 languages on a single disc.
- Thabor, on 10/23/2007, -4/+108They have budgets for memory and space which they keep in mind. Thankfully though the first thing they care about is what they want to make, not what kind of dics it will be on. They'll start at the quality they want, and then trim it to fit the target machine as they approach release. You'd have to be smoking something to believe the first thing a dev would say is "I want to make a game that is 8GB"..
- KingGoonie, on 10/23/2007, -14/+93Maybe its different... but why not put it on 2 dvd's the way some games were on 2 cd's for playstation... half my ps1 games were across 2 cd's because it wouldnt fit on one...
- Zamfir, on 10/16/2007, -59/+123Not surprised, DVD9 is way too small for 'next-gen' entertainment software. This will continue to be more of a problem with future cross-platform titles.
- jun2san, on 10/23/2007, -4/+65I would love to hear Jade tell me it won't fit.
- bigdsinferno, on 10/15/2007, -12/+58it's never a good sign when developers start making excuses before release. there were already problems with this game at e3, so this sounds like yet another issue.
- Error601, on 10/19/2007, -35/+76That was Microsoft's big compromise to get to market first. They'll be paying for it in the coming years.
- xOpifex, on 10/19/2007, -34/+72The PS3 has the same amount of memory as the 360. It's not a lacking of memory, it's that things need to be coded differently. Reading comprehension ftw
- Spartan225, on 10/15/2007, -2/+31Well the game is a Sandbox, so I would guess that they don't want you to have to keep switching Disks every time you got to either a new city or area, that would take away from the game experience. Just imagine traveling from Jerusalem to Damascus and then being asked to switch DVDs, then when you leave Damascus you have to switch again. That could get annoying.
- knodi, on 10/23/2007, -14/+43If Mass Effect can fit on a DVD9 I'm sure AC can manage too.
- frygar, on 10/16/2007, -4/+33Oh yeah? Well I'd rather buy my games on a cartridge!
- djfreex, on 10/14/2007, -1/+30It does not say it does not have enough ram - it says it is causing problems.
- quentinp, on 10/16/2007, -7/+35And hopefully the PS3's limited capacity doesn't ruin it for the 360.
These developer comments will probably cause fanboy brains to explode everywhere...BOTH systems have weaknesses? That's UNPOSSIBLE! - slackerxpc, on 10/19/2007, -17/+45just use 2 ***** disks... who cares if you have to switch disks half way through a game? I remember some PS games were like 6 disks
- ronaldmonster, on 10/19/2007, -7/+34You know Microsoft, this is the exact reason you should have made the HDD standard in the first place. All games for the xbox could fit on a dvd 4.7, cause they could cache all the extra data onto the hard drive. Without that hard drive, all developers are having problems cause where they use to be able to optimize for the hard drive, they can't now.
I may be a fanboy to the 360, but Microsoft your gonna pay for this dearly unless you make the hdd standard & soon. - shinythingy, on 10/13/2007, -8/+34CD's should be fine then too. Things change get over it
- thecrazyd, on 10/23/2007, -0/+24Having problems fitting it on a DVD is not the same thing as saying it won't fit on one.
- jhnewt, on 10/23/2007, -18/+42They may physically have the same amount of memory but more is available to the game on the 360 because the PS3's OS takes up a lot more of the available memory. Plus the memory is split into two separate segments on PS3.
- etgoboom, on 10/16/2007, -6/+29not all 360's have a HDD
- Intangible360, on 10/23/2007, -43/+65As will the PS3's lack of memory, the difference is one is not fixable without buying a brand-new system, the other is easily fixable by using multiple disks when necessary.
- Lammin, on 10/19/2007, -9/+29PS3 360
System Memory 256 MB XDR 512 MB UMA (Shared with GPU)
Video Memory 256 MB 512 MB UMA (Shared with CPU)
Embedded Video Memory n/a 10MB eDRAM
off gamespot so its accurate i presume - thatsmyaibo, on 10/14/2007, -7/+25I don't know why you're being dugg down. You're absolutely right. Disc space should have been considered earlier as opposed to compressing all the sound and video. Especially now since people are running better audio systems with high def video outputs.
- mythicflux, on 10/17/2007, -4/+21The PS3 has the same total amount of memory as the 360. The issue is HOW it's allocated and used by the game devs. We're Talking about how to use the available memory... not a lack of it.
- hmunkey, on 10/13/2007, -1/+18And the Wii as the "little kids, old people" console.
- staticneuron, on 10/17/2007, -2/+18How many times is this going to be repeated? AC is not an RPG or a linear game it is a sandbox game, so unless your willing to sit next to your console and change discs everytime you go from one side of the city to another then please be quite about the issue. I am pretty sure the experience would be jaring for the city chase scenes.
- santasing, on 10/19/2007, -8/+24Good point, but I think this could also have to do with the fact that Assasin's Creed was being developed with the PS3 as the primary platform "initially".
- mythicflux, on 10/13/2007, -3/+19Well then good news soon you'll be able to pay $400.
- tuxidomasx, on 10/19/2007, -6/+22its gonna be on PC
usually ubisoft does pretty good on their PC ports (thinking Prince of Persia). i might just have to wait for the PC version instead. Chances are it'll look better too... - WWWoody, on 10/19/2007, -8/+24As if it's such a terrible thing to get rid of four out of the five additional languages on the 360 version.
OH GOD I WANNA PLAY IN GERMAN - ausfahrt, on 10/23/2007, -16/+31Hope the ps3 version doesn't loose content cause of the 360 dvd capacity limit. That would be a shame.
- quomen, on 10/15/2007, -1/+16They just need to tighten up the graphics a bit.
- krische, on 10/14/2007, -7/+21Seems like they aren't having much problem with programming for the CELL. I wonder if developers are starting to get the hang of it now.
- Iuvat, on 10/16/2007, -1/+15BASICALLY, 1. You have no idea what you're talking about. 2. Turn off you caps lock...
- ausfahrt, on 10/15/2007, -6/+20It's not that the ps3 lacks ram it's just that it's handeled differently cause it's split up in xdr and ddr. Developers just have to get used to it.
- Akaru, on 10/15/2007, -3/+17Did you even RTFA? The 'memory problem' with the PS3 has nothing to do with having not enough RAM, in fact he just mentions that the way memory is handled is different, and thus they're struggling about that.
I don't care if you own both consoles, you sure do sound like a X360 fanboy here. - tobikow, on 10/18/2007, -7/+21Why dont they just use multiple dvds?
- DudleyInnocent, on 10/15/2007, -1/+14I didn't dig him down. My paid assistant did it for me.
- MiDri, on 10/15/2007, -5/+18It adds a load of complexity, you can't just throw half the content on one dvd and half on the other. You have to write code that can handle the swap -- not always an easy task if you did not plan to do that from the start.
- ChrisWickenscom, on 10/13/2007, -1/+14They never said ANYTHING about the amount of memory on the PS3. It's how the memory is handled in the PS3.
Read before you comment. - thatsmyaibo, on 10/19/2007, -2/+15LOUD NOISES!
- grat2001, on 10/15/2007, -9/+21You make a great point that I had never considered it the fact that all multi-platform games will have to conform to each others weak points. Unless you get delayed release like Rainbow 6 & Virtual Fighter 5, where the developer rewards the other console with added content. A technical issue they should be able to figure out working with Sony engineers. The space issue is something they should have had under control from the beginning. Digg me down al l you want but it sounds like the PS3 version is the one to get for those choosing between PS3/360.
- dadood, on 10/15/2007, -3/+15That was one of many compromises including, HDMI, cinderblock power brick, and overheating chips to get to market first. It's crazy to think how many versions/revisions of the 360 that are out.
- floodyberry, on 10/17/2007, -10/+22Carmack on PS3 vs 360 in regards to memory: http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200708/N07. ...
"The PS3 still does have in theory more power that could be extracted but it’s not smart. We don’t feel it’s smart to head down that rat hole. In fact, the biggest thing we worry about right now is memory. Microsoft extracts 32 megs for their system stuff and Sony takes 96. That’s a big deal because the PS3 is already partitioned memory where the 360 is 512 megs of unified and on the PS3 is 256 of video, 256 of memory minus 96 for their system…stuff. Stuff is not the first thing that came to my mind there. (laughs)"
I'm sure the apologies to Intangible360 and jhnewt will start flowing in. - jake8689, on 10/23/2007, -6/+18yeah i can have the french version but the english one will cost me 800 points
- Spiffness, on 10/13/2007, -4/+16Xbox 360 has a hard drive. I wouldn't be offended (as a consumer) if Assassins Creed required one, and maybe had a second disk that just loaded data onto your hard drive for use in-game. If they are having trouble squeezing it on, how much larger can it be? A gig or two short? Not that big of a deal for me personally.
- mattdanis, on 10/14/2007, -8/+20As long as it's still on track for a PC release, I don't give a *****.
- xelloss, on 10/14/2007, -2/+13Problem is core users with no HDD, but I think its more of an issues with GBs of memory rather then just MBs. They might be upwards of 1-5 GB over the 8 GB limit and can't seem to compress the info down to 8 GBs.
- krische, on 10/23/2007, -1/+12That may work for some games, but not all. Could you imagine playing a game like GTA and switching disks everytime you drive to a different part of the map?
- thax, on 10/15/2007, -0/+11I don't think you understand, the games comes with every line that is spoken in English with the exact same line also spoken in Spanish, German, French, and Italian depending on the language setting you have selected.
