Game consoles are supposed to be designed with the foresight that they can be left on and played without overheating. Having to modify your console with fans so it keeps cool is retarded. Microsoft seems to have missed that memo.

/facepalm - QuackMasterDan, on 03/10/2009, -0/+1sbluetruck is correct, the NXE Dashboard update enables you to save Xbox 360 games to the hard drive. However to prevent loaning discs to your friends, you must start the hard drive loaded game with the disc in the drive for the initial check.
Hacking the 360 has been a failure, though the Infectus 2 modchip and a few others let you load an alternate BIOS, it requires downgrading your system to a previous version number (Very tricky), and you have little control over the system. - QuackMasterDan, on 03/10/2009, -1/+2Replacing the stock fans in the Xbox 360 makes the system not only more quiet, but moves over double the volume of air over the CPU heatsink. Microsoft installed the cheapest parts they could, including low-quality lead free solder (primary cause of RRoD for the GPU), impure thermal paste (a secondary cause), and noisy fans. Talismoon's replacement case fans greatly reduce the hot/cold stresses placed on the system, and installing new fans is one of the best things you can do you prevent a RRoD.

- Arkz, on 03/10/2009, -0/+1ok no... some of them true mods are awesome.. but just buying a £20 replacement case isnt much of a mod.. true mods are done yourself, not bought and slapped on.. hell i cut my own window on mine, painted the case black and bought a sheet of 2mm thick perspex for the window, then placed LEDs around inside.. only ready made mods i bought were a transparent wind tunnel, cause i cant exactly make mine go transparent, and a replacement dvd drive cover with a disc window, tbh i tried doing it myself but the cutting tool i used just kinda ruined it so.. aaaanyway.. ohh how i love ranting!

The edges are rough because 1) The cuts are narrow and intricate, its not a large clean window like many case mods, so no room for smoothing cuts 2) It was the first time I've ever used a dremel 3) The Xbox 360 case may look smooth on the outside, but the inner plate has numerous lined extrusions which cause the bit to jut to the sides, that's why most windows are a large square, where there are blank spaces for clean cuts.
