- TheManikin, on 03/03/2009, -29/+233I've found I don't really care what De La Rocha says unless Tom Morello is ripping solos at the same time.
- inactive, on 03/03/2009, -58/+171 OMG someone is enfrocing immigration the laws? The horror.
- JTTM, on 03/03/2009, -35/+145Ever notice how editorials leave out the word "illegal immigrant" and just use "immigrant" in order to manipulate peoples opinions? I see it all the time on TV news in the LA area...
- Pseudorious, on 03/03/2009, -62/+141He should be working to educate and change laws, not demand that laws be ignored or falsely accuse those that enforce the laws of racism.
- Armor1901, on 03/03/2009, -49/+109Where the ***** do these ILLEGAL immigrants get off, DEMANDING they be granted the same rights of LEGAL US citizens?
Perfect - a rally of illegals. Makes rounding them up and deporting their asses much easier - they're already in one huge group. - Cannonballkid, on 03/03/2009, -14/+73By this logic the civil rights movement would have never happened.
- snazer, on 03/02/2009, -40/+89His rage really is relentless. What a guy.
- saylordani, on 03/03/2009, -34/+80It's one thing to enforce immigration laws, but it is an ENTIRELY different thing to degrade and dehumanize detainees (a lot of whom have yet to be tried in court) by feeding them expired food and spending tax dollars to parade them around, like a ring leader would do at a ***** CIRCUS, in nothing but neon pink underwear with the words "Go Joe!" stamped across their behinds.
There's a reason Amnesty International, the Anti-Defamation League, and the American Civil Liberties Union all agree that Arpaio is a sorry excuse for a human being and an overall disgrace as a public official. - Barackalypse, on 03/03/2009, -16/+62Since the article doesn't bother explaining what 287(g) actually is, I'll do it for you:
"This authorizes the secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to enter into agreements with state and local law enforcement agencies, permitting designated officers to perform immigration law enforcement functions"
"The program is credited for identifying more than 70,000 (since January 2006) individuals, mostly in jails, who are suspected of being in the country illegally."
http://www.ice.gov/partners/287g/Section287_g.htm
Basically, they're pissed off we're deporting people who are here illegally, even though most of the people that are identified were already in jail for other offenses. - mzx639, on 03/03/2009, -63/+102I like Rage, but if the immigrants are illegals, Zack is an idiot. IF YOU ARE ILLEGAL, STAY OUT!
- Dubbsacc, on 03/03/2009, -33/+70Wow, these comments ***** suck. This is about illegal search and seizure by Sheriff Joe's posse and some of the most blatant racial profiling I have ever witnessed.
Most reports state that of all the illegals picked up, 70% are booked on illegal immigration charges while the other 30% are booked on non-immigration charges. That means that 30% were not even illegial immigrants instead they were US citizens or legal aliens that were illegally profiled based on race.
For all of Digg's whining about protecting individual liberties you would think this would have less favor here. Perhaps many do not know the truth about these tactics being used by Sheriff Joe.
Does no one care to protect the 4th Amendment? The person's race is not enough probable cause to pull someone over. Then charge these persons with non-immigrant related violations. - kalvinb, on 03/03/2009, -10/+40They do that in Phoenix as well. People aren't stupid. Joe wins by a landslide every election no matter how much whining goes on by the opposition.
- inactive, on 03/03/2009, -13/+41Well said. I don't agree with much of RATM's "message" but the commie bastards are amazing musicians.
- TLNEditor, on 03/03/2009, -78/+105God bless Sheriff Arpaio. Criminals should be imprisoned. Suspect arrested by the police should be detained pending trial. The good Sheriff may like headlines a little too much, but the fact is he is doing his job, unlike far too many law enforcement officers.
- civilizedevil, on 03/03/2009, -22/+47I just wish he would focus some of his energy on making another album with RATM.
- inactive, on 03/03/2009, -0/+24It is possible to be against both illegal immigration and the way Arpaio dehumanizes and humiliates illegals.
Yeah, I know I'm going to be buried by people on both sides of this issue. - brettsmaname, on 03/03/2009, -26/+49just because it's a law, does not mean it isn't racism.
- inactive, on 03/03/2009, -75/+97Sheriff Joe is one of the only police officers in the nation actually enforcing immigration laws.
***** anyone who messes with him. - ldapmonkey, on 03/03/2009, -25/+47"***** you I won't do what you tell me!"
- jcsoc, on 03/03/2009, -2/+22I liked how the article barely touched on what they were marching about. Next time link to something that has a LITTLE backstory?
- saylordani, on 03/03/2009, -7/+27I don't remember mentioning Zach de la Rocha in my comment. Furthermore, if you're referring to the EZLN in your reply, how do their supposed crimes justify Joe Aripaio's waste of my tax dollars on ridiculous, inhumane publicity stunts?
How 'bout you actually reply to my comment next time? - djbon2112, on 03/03/2009, -8/+27Agreed. You're here illegally? Tough *****. Be here legally then.
- spectre51, on 03/03/2009, -6/+25Exactly the key word is "illegal" I have no problem with legal immigration as most people. Follow the laws and you won't have a problem.
- wonderworm, on 03/03/2009, -3/+21RAGE ON my brotha!
I can't go live and work in Mexico without asking permission from the government first. It's only fair to expect the same treatment here. Amazing how people get upset about a law enforcement officer actually enforcing the law. - AManWithNoName, on 03/03/2009, -6/+24They say that in war the truth be the first casualty
- oth1c, on 03/03/2009, -4/+22I think most people are upset over how he is enforcing the laws. He claimed his plan was to go after companies that employed illegals, but from what I have been reading and seen personally they are actively arresting individuals and charging them.
Over the summer I worked at a water park that employed about 15 Mexican immigrants, who had all been through E-Verify and came back clean. Beginning of June the police came in and arrested them all, because apparently they were not all legal citizens. Last I heard most of them were still sitting in jail instead of simply being deported. Some got out if they agreed to testify and say the manager knew they were illegals. The others are being charged with identity theft along with some other things.
I agree that the laws need to be enforced but at the same time its hard to agree with 100% once you get to know some of them. From my experiences they were extremely hard working people, just here to make a better life for their families and were willing to work their asses off to do it. - yocouchdigga, on 03/03/2009, -12/+29Arpaio is a huge douchebag though...
- markgl, on 03/03/2009, -3/+20It's not racist! WTF people. You can't come to this country illegally!!! Damn, *****, come on!
- Expl0siv0, on 03/03/2009, -0/+17I don't know why you're getting dugg down. I miss that band.
- PopcornDave, on 03/03/2009, -20/+35If you don't want immigration laws followed, then why have any laws followed at all?
Work to either amend or change the laws you disagree with. Don't start demanding that we pick and choose which ones we obey. - AgentVladimir, on 03/03/2009, -3/+18"For all of Digg's whining about protecting individual liberties". I'm so glad someone said it. I don't get this community sometimes. Half the time it's ***** the government and all the bad things they do, then it's all this "thank ***** someone's keeping the Mexicans out".
Is is the same people making both kinds of comment? - Tatem, on 03/03/2009, -22/+37Thank God SOMEONE is enforcing the law.
- HotBaconSauce, on 03/03/2009, -0/+14Reading comprehension.
- therealist, on 03/03/2009, -35/+49This has to be a joke, right? A bunch of illegal immigrants protesting Sheriff Joe for doing his job well. De la rocha is a coward for attacking the enforcer rather than the creator of the law.
- Dubbsacc, on 03/03/2009, -6/+19Go ahead, bury away.
http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2009/02/26/ ...
"Less than two weeks ago, four key Democratic members of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee asked Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to investigate complaints that since Arpaio signed a 287 (g) agreement with ICE in 2007, deputies have unconstitutionally used skin color to look for illegal immigrants as part of a series of crime sweeps and work-site raids. The four Democrats also asked for Napolitano, the former Arizona governor, to terminate Arpaio's agreement if any problems can't be fixed." - Cannonballkid, on 03/03/2009, -3/+15Its the belief that sometimes changing the system from within won't work. Protests have to be staged marches have to be organized. I'm not advocating illegal immigration I was just responding to Pseduorious that sometimes more has to be done for change.
- ASUG23, on 03/03/2009, -14/+26There would be no terror and no fear of being deported in immigrant neighborhoods if they were all LEGAL immigrants but they're not all legal there are ILLEGAL immigrants and that is a problem and somebody needs to do something about. Its the same as if you had a bunch of criminals in your neighborhood you'd want law enforcement to do something about it.
- FightTest, on 03/03/2009, -18/+29Classy ladies down there at the bottom wearing '***** Arpaio" shirts in front of little kids. Great taste.
- theberlindoctor, on 03/03/2009, -4/+14Yea, he sure was doing a good job when my ex-boss's entire family was arrested after having their door kicked down on false drug charges (they had the wrong house). His entire family spent 7 days in the revolving "wheel" joke of a judicial system. Have money? You can get out. Dont have money? ***** you your going to the prison camp. A ***** PRISON CAMP.
You think he's doing a good job, yet I'd bet any amount of money you dont live in Arizona or Maricopa County. You don't have to deal with mandatory (and illegal) police checkpoints nor the illegal racial profiling, nor the "showing up, loading people in vans and taking them away," nor the ability to be arrested for not having insurance, nor the mandatory sentence for the most minimal of drug possession charges, nor the countless other unconstitutional, illegal and just generally ***** tactics your "good sheriff" pulls on the populace of Maricopa county.
If you think thats "doing a good job" perhaps you should re-read the constitution. - anitafagina, on 03/03/2009, -2/+11If the kids can read that shirt then it means they're learning English.
God, you guys are never happy are you? - lowbot, on 03/03/2009, -1/+10If drive without a license feel free to call me an illegal driver. Its not dehumanizing. Youre just an oversensitive idiot.
- TresTriste, on 03/03/2009, -2/+11Freedomekeeper, read the wiki on Arpaio, he IS a huge douchebag, and he PERSONALLY is costing tax payers in my area tens of millions of dollars because of his jacked up attention-grabbing antics.
- styx31989, on 03/03/2009, -3/+11do you have any class at all?
- CJ666, on 03/03/2009, -1/+9Umm... all of those bands are, or were, on major record labels just like RATM.
- johnboycanada, on 03/03/2009, -1/+9***** you. "He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither." - Ben Franklin. I hope some cop comes up to you in the next week and ask you to provide ID proving your an American here legally. Then when you don't have ID arrests you and puts you in jail. Sheriff Arpaio is an habitual violator of the constitution and a jackass treading thin ice.
- Azlen, on 03/02/2009, -25/+33While its a fake and not him, Joe Arpaio's twitter account can be pretty funny at times.
twitter.com/Joe_Arpaio - skyshock1, on 03/03/2009, -14/+22Zach... seems like he's kinda running outta things to Rage Against.
- linguistcomposr, on 03/03/2009, -1/+9Okay, if the information you give is accurate, then I'll admit you're right and those tactics should stop. However, prosecution of illegals shouldn't stop simply because they don't like it. That's what this issue seems to get pitched as.
Thank you for shedding some light. - ASUG23, on 03/03/2009, -9/+17If they're illegal how and what taxes are they paying?
- johnboycanada, on 03/03/2009, -3/+11Dude, Arpaio is sending his deputies into ethnic neighborhoods and randomly checking ID's and immigration paperwork. I resent the idea that police can do that. It seems absolutely unconstitutional (against the 4 Amendment) and also is racial profiling. How would you like police to come up to you randomly and tell you you look Mexican and make you provide ID. And if you didn't have any you get detained? This is America!!! We don't do that kind of stuff here.
