- MWeather, on 12/02/2007, -4/+29The truth is that people have sex. They don't allow videos of that either.
- inactive, on 12/02/2007, -5/+27How is it a violation to reveal the truth?
- briancarnell, on 12/02/2007, -1/+15If you RTFA, you can see that Youtube itself said the videos were deleted due to the "gratuitious violence" contained therein. Youtube/Google Idiocracy at work.
- jlhoben, on 12/02/2007, -2/+11Very disturbing - the idea that spaces that people see as democratic have been compromised is unsettling, though when you consider that most of them are corporations its not surprising. Why not start a NEWS TUBE where reporters and activists from throughout the "third" world and from more subtly repressive regimes like America and Canada can post footage and stories without being censored. Censorship, once people are aware of it opens up new public spaces and opens peoples' eyes to the need for activism.
- danarama, on 12/02/2007, -1/+10uhh...every single one of the links to HIS videos are dead. If it was blogged or written about or linked anywhere it's gone. That's what the real damage is.
- Chompy, on 12/02/2007, -3/+11Google: "Don't be Evil. Just, you know.. work with it."
- Uranium118, on 12/02/2007, -3/+11Because torture isn't appropriate for Youtube perhaps? There's a little thing called "Terms and Conditions" you must agree when you sign-up.
- Pake, on 12/02/2007, -2/+7What is disturbing about a rule that does not allow gratuitous violence of any form? While the guy is trying to show something important, you can't expect a place that tries to be a family friendly environment. When you have something important to show, find someone that'll host it for you that doesn't have rules against the content, but don't rely on YouTube or anyone else with rules that govern what the post can contain.
- akimbo, on 12/03/2007, -1/+5Agree with danarama...
Inaddition... he cannot retrieve some of the video lost as it wasn't backed up... So if anyone can grab a video and send it to him... i think it would be nice. - Lowrads, on 12/02/2007, -0/+4As the link says, all the archived embeds around the web also have to be redone. Just makes research and publicity a bit harder. What if the source material had been seized by authorities somewhere?
- inactive, on 12/02/2007, -13/+17YouTube is not removing any Egyptian police brutality videos. Do a search, vids still there.
http://youtube.com/results?search_query=egypt+poli ...
The mentioned Emad Kabeer torture video is still up too:

I don't know why this activist's account was suspended, he was probably acting like douchebag, and received too many user complaints. Not necessarily due to his videos. - danarama, on 12/02/2007, -0/+4what the ***** is wrong with Mideast AND the USA that's the question
- danarama, on 12/02/2007, -0/+4these wern't torture video they were news and demonstrations.
- ayeroxor, on 12/02/2007, -0/+3If they're a "family environment" then how come you can have videos with "click here if you're over 18" ?
- inactive, on 12/02/2007, -2/+5you racist jew!
- inactive, on 12/02/2007, -1/+4Who is "us"? Because here in the U.S., we've literally put Darwin on trial in the 21st century; we're supressing science as evil; our leaders are defying court orders and mocking their fellow citizens, we've attacked another country without even the legitimacy of a cave-man's campaign against a rival.
So from what lofty perch do you issue this invitation? - MoClippa, on 12/02/2007, -0/+3I believe he argued in an earlier article that he lost a lot of the videos because he didn't have them archived externally.
- SilverBack101, on 12/02/2007, -0/+3Well, that's disturbing to say the least.
- Sp0rAdiC, on 12/02/2007, -0/+2Yeah, ignorance is grand isn't it?
- LogitechG15, on 12/02/2007, -2/+4Part of Youtubes term of use.
# Don't post videos showing bad stuff like animal abuse, drug abuse, or bomb making.
# Graphic or gratuitous violence is not allowed. If your video shows someone getting hurt, attacked, or humiliated, don't post it.
Enough said. - duggtodeath, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2I posted this at the time when it had only 115 diggs and 1 comment :(
- FAT_PIGGY, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1scum
- TheAtomicMoose, on 12/02/2007, -2/+3digg better never sell out to a megacorp. like youtube did.
- inactive, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1By "US" I mean logical, rational americans, not the idiots you mentioned.
- Pake, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1That's for questionable stuff and the rules still say no gratuitous violence. Like MWeather said above: "The truth is that people have sex. They don't allow videos of that either."
- int10h, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1Why can't he use liveleak ?
- scott2007, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1There has to be some organization willing to host these videos. The videos would obviously be against Youtube's TOS. Why didn't he find an alternate host a long time ago?
- redmonkey, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1This is first post about account suspension
http://www.digg.com/world_news/Egyptian_Blogger_Si ...
It did not get any attention even Digg so against torture. Or diggers only against torture when they could use it against USA? / rhetoric question - DestroyFascism, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1They will, and that day will be many peoples last....life goes on.
- Zasdad, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1Irrespective of the ultimate disposition of the videos in question, GooTube screwed the pooch on this one. As the article says, Abbas has his account and a mechanism whereby he can provide context for the video, precisely what he should have had without the international uproar.
Even GooTube is acknowledging that his message is "important." So much for the spew about "gratuitous" violence.
In spite of the man-love Google generates in some circles, they are fighting the perception that they combine Microsoft's humility with Yahoo's moral compass. - scott2007, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1http://www.answers.com/gratuitous?cat=biz-fin&gwp= ...
- inactive, on 12/02/2007, -1/+1How is this then...***** THE MIDDLE EAST AND THEIR THIRD WORLD *****!
- TheGooseyOne, on 12/02/2007, -3/+3OH GOD NO. He might have to spend the better part of an hour reuploading his vids!
The humanity!
buried - MoClippa, on 12/02/2007, -1/+1The idiots he mentioned are much like the idiots making headlines in the Middle East... sure, its a very different society, but it is a lot more dynamic then your generalized/racist statements indicate.
- dddeskt0p, on 12/02/2007, -0/+0youtube is so lame about content. when are they going hd?
- tubeblender, on 12/02/2007, -2/+1Why do they have to? Is it necessary? Why don't we just leave them the ***** alone? We could have developed alternative fuel sources and delivery over 20 years ago and rid ourselves of the need for oil and them altogether. Ask yourself better questions and you will get better answers than "What the ***** is wrong with them!"
Here is one for you to answer: "What the ***** is wrong with us!?" - inactive, on 12/02/2007, -2/+1lmao
- etnu, on 12/03/2007, -2/+0The following things are also true:
- Some people like to rape children.
- Some people like to rape animals.
- Some people like to castrate themselves.
Which of these do you think fits in with YouTube's terms of service?
The problem here was not the message of the videos, it was the images it was depicting. YouTube is not an adults only site; if they allowed just any type of content to be published, they'd be severely limiting their potential audience.
"If you don't want to see it, don't watch it" doesn't work on sites like youtube, because the offending material could be buried at the end of the video clip. - Pake, on 12/02/2007, -8/+4They aren't being evil when they have rules that prohibit ANYONE from posting stuff that contains "gratuitous violence."
- inactive, on 12/02/2007, -9/+5WHAT THE ***** IS WRONG WITH THE MIDDLE EAST...WOULD YOU PLEASE JOIN US IN THE 21ST ***** CENTURY...*****!!!!
- inactive, on 12/02/2007, -7/+1he shouldn't have had the ghey anal in malmö.
lest he had been one of those v-bloggers hence he couldn't have been more than 20 seconds removed from a wikipedia article of similar interest.
you gotta watch out for these hawks. they're FREAKS - duggtodeath, on 12/02/2007, -9/+2115 diggs, 1 comment?
- notzak, on 12/02/2007, -14/+5Because it's so difficult to resubmit videos
