  • MacEnvy, on 04/27/2009, -1/+15This isn't a "supervirus", and it has nothing to do with antibiotic resistance. Your sentiment regarding overuse of antibiotics is admirable but Influenza-A H1N1 is completely unrelated to it.
  • inactive, on 04/27/2009, -2/+16Possibly. It can trigger a cytokine storm in people with strong immune systems - which pretty much means that your immune system will work against you. So it's not something that may only potentially kill old people, it can be pretty bad if ignored.

    Though, no one in the US has died from it at this point.

    We'll know for sure how much it's spreading by the end of the week - if it's extensive enough the WHO can call it a pandemic and people will freak out. Just be weary of any flu like symptoms and if they progress see a doctor, I don't think it's anything to worry about at the moment.
  • inactive, on 04/27/2009, -1/+14You're actually a bit off - this specific strain is worse for people aged 25-45 because it can trigger a cytokine storm, which basically means your immune system starts working against you.

    So while you are mostly right - people should still be slightly cautious if they develop any flu-like symptoms.
