- BBX25, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21Tons of construction pics of the tower here, with quite a few from today:
(Please be nice to their server)
http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=106899&page=172 - killiansman, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19was the only one amused by the fact that there is a websited exclusively dedicated to skyscraper news?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+21Dubai , dubai, the new center of the world for architecture.
- rgodfrey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15The article doesn't quite deal with the size of this brobdingnagian boondoggle relative to other enormously tall buildings. Check out this chart for a comparison:

- spidoman, on 10/11/2007, -8/+19lol
"Only Jews are not yet allowed in because of security and cultural risks due to their crimes against humanity in Palestine"
Wow, fantastic place. Freedom ftw. - BBX25, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Freedom tower will not be taller than Burj Dubai.
FT will be 1776 feet tall, if it ever gets built. - magnakai, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Are you sure you don't mean Israelis? There are definitely Jews in Dubai.
- Bajeda, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Jews are allowed in, the guy didn't get his facts right. If you have an Israeli passport or an Israeli stamp in your passport you probably wont get in, but they aren't going to stop you just for being Jewish.
- atbnet, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Apparently you haven't been on the internet very long, there are websites dedicated to a lot more weirder things out there.
- whatthefu, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7I really, really want to climb up that as Spider-man in a video game.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6The CN tower is still taller. :)
- Slython, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Oh well, we Canadians still have the world's tallest free-standing structure on land ;_;
- kboyer, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9Freud would have a field day.
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5And you're a Nazi/Nationalist Chinese. Only crazy Chinese Nationalists will claim that Taiwanese, most Koreans, Vietnamese, some Indians, and Russians, are a part of China and will be reunited one day.
- nedzeve, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6800 meter tower? 7 star hotel? Indoor ski resort? Sounds like a great place if you're extremely wealthy.
- gamesector, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Wow...I didn't realise it was that big.
- moneyballs2, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Dubai is sooooo rich. And they will always build something bigger, better as often as they need to.
- cubeeggs, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Don't be surprised if it ain't happening, as the Burj Dubai is supposed to be over 800m, and the Spire is only going to be 610.
- Bajeda, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4That still doesn't mean that the UAE bars Jews from entering the country.
- jasoncz1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Lol, guess where the construction money come from? American Treasury Notes and American Consumers. You buy foreign stuff, you help other cities' skylines look awesome. IT's all good.
- Gir9000, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3It looks like the ivory tower in the nerver ending story.
- PhantomBantam, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Keep in mind another Dubai building might take the title from the Burj Dubai. The Name? Al Burj

Freedom Tower, chicago spire, burj dubai, al burj. Next few years should be pretty cool. - oblivinated, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I'm Taiwanese and all I can say is grrrrrrrrrrrr >_
- kkDonut, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3anyone else think DIE HARD 5?

....crap! - slicedoranges, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I'd rather drop a penny.
- ogmak, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Poor Shanghai World Trade Center...tried to go for the world's tallest building, but faile.d
- nick2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Man, The Sears Tower looks like a midget now :-(
- Bajeda, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2You can if you go to one of the hotels. If you want good clubbing you may be disappointed, but this isn't Saudi. Dubai realizes that foreigners bring in lots of money and they like to drink, so drinking is permitted in certain places.
- KnightMareInc, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2that didnt take long, how many years untill the new world's talling?
- PhantomBantam, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It didn't have thumbnail previews. I don't think I could be nice tot the server.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+6cue comments from jealous Americans.
edit: too late. - BlackAle, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3yeah, yeah, but what's the point if you can't enjoy a beer!? :)
- jmchez, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Noticed that the design is by a company in Chicago? In fact, notice that all of the engineering and architecture in Dubai is done, not only NOT by anyone form Dubai but NOT by anyone for the entire Middle East? They may have oil money but if they didn't have that oil there would not be anything to even look at there.
- jmchez, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1No, there's no need to show off anymore. These behemoths are not economical, when you have so much land in the suburbs surrounding major cities and with so many people telecommuting. A 60 story skyscraper is usually the best bang for the buck.
- imran7, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1LOL YOU ARE HILARIOUS
- MadOtaku, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2They should shave off 3 feet.
- Bonez, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i guess it's you..
- cuestix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If you are referring to me, then unless you have actually lived in Israel AND Gaza like I have for many years, you really have nothing to talk about. Thanks for the intellectual input though.
- noth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It has already been updated.
- jasoncz1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2"Dubai is awesome. It's the New York City of the 21st century" how do you figure? You feel safe walking in NYC 3am in the morning at anytime in history?
- thepeacemaker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Have u even been to that place??? Dubai is the most exciting and lively place I've been to but then again I live in Houston.
- cuestix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Not disputing where and when Jews have been oppressed.
What's your point? Yes, you have shown irrefutable evidence that many peoples throughout history are antisemetic.
The "Chosen People Syndrome", as you call it, is not unique to Judaism.
Do Catholics not believe they are the most righteous faith?
Do Muslims not think that they are the holiest?
What about Mormons? Baptists? Shintoists? etc etc
The point is we all have a right to believe what we like. The difference is you don't tend to see Jews or Christians sending their children out in public wrapped in TNT. If you're going to accuse Israel of inhumane treatment of Palestinians, then you better take a closer look at who's doing what to who. Israels attacks are retaliations in kind, as they should be. Look at the history of war in and around Israel for the last 60 years and you not find any account of Israel attacking anybody without being provoked.
Again, thanks for the intellectual input. - themastersb, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Looks like they're close to finishing the concrete part. Next comes the glass.
- Richardgm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Am I the only one who thinks this is one sexy building?
I can't want to cash out my life savings to stay one night. :) - in2deep, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Cool article...enjoyed the read!
- cindylauper, on 10/11/2007, -8/+8Which floor will Haliburton be on?
