World-famous bypass surgery pioneer dead at 99

ctv.ca — Dr. Michael DeBakey, the world-famous cardiovascular surgeon who pioneered such now-common procedures as bypass surgery and invented a host of devices to help heart patients, died Friday night at The Methodist Hospital in Houston.

    From the article I read:

    "In a career that began more than 70 years ago, DeBakey performed more than 60,000 heart surgeries."
    - Truly amazing. If he did one heart surgery per day it would have taken him over 164 years.
