- stonecircle, on 06/11/2009, -72/+1159This is totally disgraceful and disrespectful. I'm not one to normally advocate arrests for protesting, but this is just not acceptable.
- kmom5, on 11/06/2008, -11/+827This is totally reprehensible.
I am not a violent person by nature, but I have to say it wouldn't bother me at all to hear that someone kicked their asses. - Gemfinder, on 11/06/2008, -3/+732Good. I can't wait to see them tackled by Secret Servicemen. Let me know when it's up on YouTube.
- screamxsquad, on 11/06/2008, -3/+618This church is pathetic.
- Berkana, on 11/06/2008, -2/+587These "baptists" need to heed what is written in the first epistle of John:
1 John 4:20-21
If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother. - CodyZ, on 11/06/2008, -19/+495The First Amendment is not needed to protect popular speech, it is needed to protect the unpopular.
I don't agree with them, but I support their right to voice their opinions just as I support yours:
Westboro Bsptist Church - 785-273-0325 (phone number from their press release). - ThePenrod, on 11/06/2008, -5/+460However, their right to free speech does not extend to infringing on other citizens' right to privacy. A funeral is a private event for the family, held on the private property that the cemetery owns. Many states have passed laws requiring that funeral protest must remain outside of cemetery grounds and several hundred feet away. Moreover, it is within the cemetery's right, as a private business, to remove those disrupting their services.
- skeen07, on 11/06/2008, -4/+369Is Joe Biden gonna have to slap a bitch?
- charm803, on 11/06/2008, -3/+340They tried to do this in Canada for something else, and Shirley Phelps and her family were met with counter protesters and were escorted out of the country after they were informed that they are not protected from harm.
I hope Obama supporters who live near by stop these idiots with their own counter protest because the Secret Service won't be so forgiving.
The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster successfully counter protested these fools with their own (but correct) versions of "God hates shrimp" from Leviticus.
http://www.arktimes.com/blogs/arkansasblog/2008/09 ... - JMellissa, on 11/06/2008, -0/+265Religious zealots from any religion (Christian, Muslim, etc) are trouble makers who ultimately DO NOT serve the GOD they profess to worship, but instead serve their own pride, hatred and arrogance.
- gordonj, on 11/06/2008, -0/+254Can't we get Anonymous on their asses? Start picketing their church services and every other little thing they do.
- MeatyMcBeef, on 11/06/2008, -26/+243You're an idiot. I can't name even one of the conservative Christian ***** I grew up with that remotely tolerates Phelps and his gang. They are by far the outcasts of the right.
- woodsjransom, on 11/06/2008, -2/+216Oh my God. The woman can't be buried in peace? They are going to politicize this too? Every person is entitled to a funeral with religious rites without interference. I have no doubt that this will be dealt with. But this certainly does not help Religion. Maybe they are bluffing or someone from one of the "agencies" will convince them that this would not be in their best interest. Just awful.
- chaosium, on 11/06/2008, -1/+204Ignore them, they only get money and donations when the media pays attention.
I support how you feel, but burying for that reason. - benjhaisch, on 11/06/2008, -1/+199If that's true I hope Jesus comes and personally slaps them all in the mouth.
- Ralphdraw3, on 11/06/2008, -2/+180They are not a "church" - at least in my way of thinking.
They are really a clannish cult, dominated by a Papa Bear figure. Most of them are related by birth or marriage. It is interesting how some of the members of the "family" have regular jobs (usually in the Kansas state government and the prison system bureaucracy) which support their regular protests.
About a year ago, I called several of the family members houses - their names were in the phone book...after they protested in my state. I think they immediately called me a "fag". - Coven, on 11/06/2008, -0/+169"God Hates Elderly Grandmothers Who Died of Cancer"?
These freaks need to be shouted down at every turn. Is there a Patriot Guard unit in Hawaii? - DekarCorvus, on 11/06/2008, -0/+138Finally....a religious person who GETS it.....
you do your denomination proud friend. - dregin, on 11/06/2008, -7/+132***** *****.
- zippy757, on 11/06/2008, -21/+136Not only are you an idiot, you're no better than the folks in the article. For you to generalize 55 million GOP voters in such a slanderous manner is EXACTLY why there is so much tension in the US.
Grow up. And go do your homework. - zyklon, on 11/06/2008, -0/+110Called. They shut their line off. ***** cowards.
- charm803, on 11/06/2008, -4/+112Here's the official Press Release (if that's what you want to call it) from the website:
http://www.godhatesfags.com/written/fliers/2008110 ... - CaptMonkey, on 11/06/2008, -0/+99They'd better be on their best behavior. The Secret Service wasn't playing around when it came to Obama's security during the election and I bet they sure aren't tolerant now that he's the President Elect. If one of these nuts even acts like they want to hurt him, they'll be quietly escorted off into the back of a van and never seen again.
- JenniferInMO, on 11/06/2008, -0/+96I don't understand how these people can be so hate-filled. I didn't hear whether they succeeded, but they scheduled a protest at Jill Biden's mother's funeral about a month ago. They have also protested the funerals of dead servicemen.
I can see a lone whacko doing something like this, but to find others to join him just baffles me. - Berkana, on 11/06/2008, -3/+98These pube-huffers tried to picket Health Ledger's funeral as well, and often picket soldier's funerals. I rarely wish harm on people, but I wish harm on them.
- gordonj, on 11/06/2008, -0/+90and then they will sue him.
- omnithought, on 11/06/2008, -0/+89If it were the funeral of one of my family, I'd personally beat the living ***** out of them. Yeah, I'd probably go to jail, but with a smile. There are some people that really test my pacifism, and that would push me over the edge.
- algaeturd, on 11/06/2008, -9/+95Let the secret service take care of these people with a few well placed bullets as a direct threat to to national security. I'd be all for it. Then we can picket their funerals.
- CarlsDigg, on 11/06/2008, -1/+86Amen
- tmonsta1, on 11/06/2008, -347/+430stay classy!
the westboro folks are what the GOP want to turm the US into... a ***** up theocracy - Ralphdraw3, on 11/06/2008, -15/+97Their speech is hate speech which may border on incitement and threats.
- inactive, on 11/06/2008, -17/+94They got their beliefs from the same book you read and view as the word of god.
Not my fault. - Harabeck, on 11/06/2008, -1/+74The first ammendment only limits what the government can do, not what we as citizens can do. Any citizen can protest another protest.
- matthewinDRO, on 11/06/2008, -3/+75Another job for Anonymous?
- AaronCo, on 11/06/2008, -3/+75Sigh... people like these make Christians look bad.
- inactive, on 11/06/2008, -16/+80As an anti-theist, I view this as publicity.
The Phelps are just about the best example of how stupid religion can make people.
Plus they rely entirely on a literal interpretation of the bible. Which is also a good attack on the "perfection" of the bible. - Krishjen, on 11/06/2008, -14/+78Good Christian values in line with the Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, and Salem Witch Hunts.
- mickstephenson, on 11/06/2008, -4/+67Funerals are not a public forums and disruption of them should be a criminal offence.
- illDecree, on 11/06/2008, -1/+62.......with any luck
- chaosium, on 11/06/2008, -0/+59"They are going to politicize this too?"
Welcome to the Phelps family. They ride the coat-tails of any controversy. - chaosium, on 11/06/2008, -2/+61Agreed. We're giving them the power, they feed off the hate (and sue the pants off others as the phelps family are all lawyers.)
- CarlsDigg, on 11/06/2008, -0/+58Notice this 'church's' official website URL.
- cloudberries, on 11/06/2008, -1/+58They'd probably argue that their brother is gay, or is from Sweden, and therefore inherently evil.
- newsfully, on 11/06/2008, -0/+55I wish Digg would do that feature where you could favorite a comment.
- tgc1, on 11/06/2008, -5/+60These people need to get shot in the face.
- synthtube, on 11/06/2008, -0/+54Seriously the coverage these guys get is totally disproportionate. I saw a story on them and really they're just one inbred family led by this old racist closet homosexual with a bible in his crooked hand. They don't have "churches", they have a compound, and that's it.
- jdh24, on 11/06/2008, -0/+53While disgusting, this is no more disgusting than the other things this 'church' has done, such as picketing the funeral of a gay man who was murdered.
- chuckDontSurf, on 11/06/2008, -0/+53This just in: Crazy People Are Crazy.
- Judman, on 11/06/2008, -1/+53This is a disgrace to Christians. If anything, they are only driving people away from Christianity.
- chaosium, on 11/06/2008, -0/+50They're charismatic. Not by any means good people, but they get followers. Like the white supremacists, they blame others for the ***** lives of their weak-minded followers.
