- MercyPolitics, on 09/29/2008, -7/+42As matter of fact the latest policy of the Bush administration in Afghanistan and Pakistan is the best recruiting tool for Al Qaeda and the Taliban.
- tshafeez, on 09/29/2008, -5/+32The war on terror makes regular people angry.
- Olon97, on 09/29/2008, -6/+28Apologies to the Daily Show for the paraphrase:
McCain cites his P.O.W. experience as a main qualification for high office.
Therefore... Guantanamo isn't a prison, it's a leadership camp!
(ed: credit due to McCain for mentioning that he'd close Gitmo at the debate last week) - patpl22391, on 09/30/2008, -6/+20It's a poll......Not a report of what has actually been (or not been) accomplished.
- JenniferInMO, on 09/29/2008, -5/+18That is one big NO DUH! Anyone who has read wiki articles about the region and the politics there knows that our presence "emboldens" the terrorists.
- Ninh, on 09/29/2008, -3/+15The current war on terror is liking fighting cancer with a sledgehammer. It will only metastasize in hundreds of smaller groups where there were a dozen before.
- jaxter2010, on 06/17/2009, -3/+15This is kind of a sketchy title because it leads you to believe that the "war on terror" has statistically not weakened al Qaeda, rather than just a poll asking people what they think about it.
- inactive, on 09/30/2008, -0/+10So let me get this straight:
The BBC reports on the war on terror and says that is hasn't weakened al Qaeda. Then the BBC does a poll on its viewers as to whether the war on terror has weakened al Qaeda. According to the viewers, the war on terror isn't working. Makes perfect sense to me... - crazyhorse13, on 09/30/2008, -1/+10Correct me if I'm mistaken, I don't really watch a whole lot of news. I haven't actually heard anything about Al Qaeda in forever. It seems like the whole terrorism thing has died down. I don't know if the US actually contributed to this in any way, but it feels like things are settling down a bit.
- inactive, on 09/30/2008, -3/+11OMG the Liberal Media hates the war on terror so they create a "poll" to go against it....shocking!!
- brightlight4, on 09/29/2008, -3/+11THAT is the reason that I always said that the European countries know how to fight terrorism far better than the US, we have had terrorism in Ireland, Spain and Germany over the years and NEVER reacted as the US did. All the US have achieved is more hate and terror, but not only for them but for all their allies too!! So where do we go from here? More torture in Guantanamo type prison camps? THAT sure won't help us at all.
- Wosat, on 09/30/2008, -5/+12Unless they're polling Al-Qaeda, this poll is pointless.
- inactive, on 09/29/2008, -3/+10We've known that for YEARS.
Only the right wing still denies it. - DeFex, on 09/30/2008, -0/+6You peanutbutterists are all the same. just because of the Chinese melamine setback doesn't mean chocolate will not come back stronger than ever!
- xadhominemx, on 09/30/2008, -3/+9http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argumentum_ad_populum
jus sayin... - offrdbandit, on 09/30/2008, -1/+6This is why the CIA doesn't conduct surveys to gather intelligence: people are stupid.
- fuzzmeister, on 09/30/2008, -3/+8Sorry, but I'd rather see some hard intelligence on this than a random poll of public perception.
- Todesengelvr6, on 09/30/2008, -1/+5Just like the "War on Drugs" failed big time... get these idiots out of office!! Its time to think outside the box!!
- ImIce, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4Bingo.
- Asianwaste, on 09/30/2008, -1/+5Agreed. Unless they have a decent tactical idea or first hand accounts of progress thus far, this is all nothing more than opinionated.
- daschupa, on 09/30/2008, -0/+4Umm, so this is a poll based on opinion, not fact? People also think Pepsi tastes better than Coke. In conclusion: people are idiots.
- SeraphNox, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3My friend, I highly suggest you review your comment and read up on global relations and/or what Ron Paul stands for before ever replying to digg again. You can thank me later for not ripping you a new one.
- nadadingsda, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3There is no such thing as "war on terror".
- inactive, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3So long as people will believe something without proof, there is room for you to manipulate them into believing anything.
- kaelyiesta, on 09/30/2008, -1/+4Ask yourself why Al Qaeda exists in the first place. Ask yourself why they are willing to die to kill us. Ask yourself whether or not if it were your country and government being occupied and overthrown, would you not do the same?
'Do nothing and die cowardly' is the exactly what warmongers want you to think is the alternative. That is a false dichotomy. There is another choice. It's called peace. Despite what I imagine you think about the 'terrorists', they do not hate us for our freedom. The attack on us was not unprovoked by any stretch of the imagination. Clear away all the propaganda all the governments and MSM spew at you and consider history. We are reaping what our government has sewn. - bongfarmer, on 09/30/2008, -2/+5kill thousands of innocent civilians and you seriously piss off a lot of their relatives
- masamunecyrus, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3To be fair, he was tortured for 6 years. If anyone would have a reason to dislike America torturing others and would want to close Guantanamo, it'd probably be him. Just because you're big on military doesn't mean you're big on torture, especially when you've been on the receiving end of it.
- laserdog, on 09/30/2008, -4/+6Before we invaded Iraq, there were a lot of moderate Muslims in the world. They'd listen to extremists prattle on about how America was the great satan, roll their eyes, and go do their grocery shopping.
That is what angered Osama Bin Laden. He was ignored politically by everyday sane people.
After the US charged into Iraq touting "shock and awe" , Abu Ghraib and destroyed holy mosques later, your normal everyday moderate Muslim could no longer shrug off the crazies. The US's actions makes it very difficult to have a non-radical stance towards them.
That is what Osama Bin Laden wanted. To turn his 15% marginal support for his crazy ideas into 80% among the Muslim nations. To radicalize those who otherwise just didn't care about his religious fatwas. And we obliged. - HippyInASuit, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2Breaking news: the sky is blue.
- ElderBieler, on 09/30/2008, -2/+4Tell that to the people who burned to death, were crushed, or jumped from 30 stories to their death on 9-11. Tell that to the soldiers who were blown into pieces on the USS Cole. Tell that to people who were maimed at 3 of the Embassy's which were attacked. Perhaps one of the 14 hijacked airlines by terrorist groups in the last 4 years.
Are you people retarded? Al-Q and other groups have said and sworn that they are coming for American blood and will not stop until our "heads line the White House lawn."
Argue if you will about HOW we are fighting the War on Terror, but to say that we should do nothing is just naive and frankly stupid. - inactive, on 09/30/2008, -3/+5Wake up man, obviously a public opinion news poll determines what is actually happens in the world.
The media tells people the war on terror is failing, then they poll them and find people think it is failing. Hence, it is failing. It makes perfect sense.
IT WORKS I PROMISE. - buckrogers1965, on 09/30/2008, -1/+3There are many terror groups that want to hurt the people who are oppressing them. Most of these groups would be worse oppressors than the ones that are currently in power. None of them actually are named "al Qaeda." And they are not unified in any way shape for form, except that they may know of each other. There is no way to just kill a few leaders and end the terror groups. They will just regroup and people we don't know will take over smaller elements and build those up. Some of these groups hate each other and would gladly kill each other before they kill anyone else.
- iLikeBoobies, on 09/30/2008, -1/+3Are these the same folks who vote for the their favorite pop idol week after week? I think a threat is not best determined by a poll.
- rac1234, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2Well, at least he sorted out the economy. Oh wait...
- inactive, on 09/30/2008, -11/+13When polled 90 percent of people prefer peanut butter over chocolate......see anyone can have a poll which doesnt mean *****!
OMG think it. Killing Al Qaeda pisses them off...whats the other option? Do nothing and Die like cowardly beta males? - theNazz, on 09/30/2008, -2/+4What better way to sell security, weapons, supplies, and services than to piss off everybody?
- ImIce, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2War on Terror May Have Weakened Al Qaeda: Poll of Al Qaeda.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story ... - seldon452, on 09/30/2008, -1/+3Didn't he at first he say he would close it? Then depending on his audience change his answer?
I don't trust that man to close and lock the door when he leaves the white house, let alone close Gitmo. - Zarchon, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2Yes, because you idjits were saying the war was for low priced oil and then when oil went through the roof it was so everybody could get rich off expensive oil. My god you people spin everything.
- Trigonometron, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2Results for those who don't want to read the article:
98% of enemy combatants polled weren't involved with al Qaeda.
42% of terrorists polled were dead.
26% of terrorists polled found the War on Terror intrusive but expected to be able to buy their families Christmas presents.
17% had worked for the company for less than 3 months. - chrisinsocalif, on 09/30/2008, -1/+3How does the general public know if Al QAEDA had been weakened? They aren't in military intelligence.
- AmericanParty, on 09/30/2008, -1/+3The "Do Nothing and Bury our heads in the sand" Approach that Clinton had worked out great for us! I mean look at what happened right after he left office....oh wait...
- Strongwings, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2Honestly, Bombing the crap out of them can't be doing them any good though.
- ACiDGRiM, on 09/30/2008, -1/+3So let me get this straight, reputable news sources now use random ***** off of the street who can only give a subjective comment on an extremely objective concept.
- ErickStevenson, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2So you are saying terrorist and extremist muslims didn't exist before Clinton? STFU please, you are just making yourself dumber.
- tylermenezes, on 09/30/2008, -1/+3It's a good thing we're asking mostly uneducated people about their opinion on the factual details of something that's happening millions of miles away from them.
- manicleek, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2No it's not
- kanabiis, on 09/30/2008, -2/+4Yea, well I will take my chances with Al Quida thank you very much...... I would rather die a free man, then continue to have my rights eroded away in the name of safety.... when Al Quida brings the war here, I will be quite happy to join the fight..
Call me a internet tough guy or whatever you wish, but unless you are posting from a military base in Iraq, your the bigger pussy willing to let others fight a war for you while you happily type away supporting the next conflict that they will likely die in.... Kevin Costner had a great line in Open Range
"There are things that gnaw at a man that are worse then dying"
4k people died in WTC, im sad for them, people die every day, hell well over 4k people will die this year from Alcohol related causes... i dont see you waving the flag for a war on beer. You are WAY more likely to die from a drunk driver then an act of Al Quida... its interesting that you pick Al Quida as the big boogy man, and quite telling. - Gephoria, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2were any real life terrorists involved in this poll? lol
- pintomp3, on 09/30/2008, -0/+2we killed them for him! btw, you seem to forget we put him in power and rewarded him with more arms and money after he gassed the kurds.
