War based on a lie, says Australian PM Rudd

smh.com.au — In a terse statement to Parliament, the Prime Minister said the Howard government had embarked on the mission using abused intelligence and "without a full and proper assessment" of the consequences. Supporting the war without approval of the United Nations had set a dangerous precedent and undermined the international system, Mr Rudd said.

No. Have the actions of rogue states like Iran been moderated? No. After five years, has the humanitarian crisis in Iraq been removed? No it has not."

    Mr Rudd said the Government would soon release a national security statement so war could not be waged in such a manner again. "Our Government is committed to ensuring that our national security arrangements are focused, co-ordinated and effective, and that the actions of government are accountable," he said.

    When will we hear an American President speak out so plainly and so forcefully to the American People? Unfortunately, President Obama will only bring more of the same unless he is willing to stand up to the Israel Lobby as Rudd has in Australia.
  • brightlight4, on 06/04/2008, -0/+6This was what I always thought about terrorism, we in Europe have lived with it for years and never declared war on Ireland nor on the Basque Country either, why do the USA have to be so aggressive about this and get nowhere fast with a tremendous cost and not even catching the terrorists AND attacking the wrong country illegally,

Europeans fight international terrorists the right way with law enforcement agencies. You fight criminals with the police not the army, in my opinion.
