RIP - vurdillac, on 07/18/2009, -2/+337He was preceded in death by journalistic integrity.
- feomatteo88, on 07/18/2009, -3/+26392? Good run sir. RIP
- meridian, on 07/18/2009, -2/+182"There is no such thing as a little freedom. Either you are all free, or you are not free."
Rest in peace. - sammryder, on 07/18/2009, -9/+182So sad to see such a great American icon go
- STBAT25, on 07/18/2009, -6/+158He was WAY more important than MJ but I doubt he'll get half the coverage. He was there for WW II, the Kennedy assassination, the moon landing and helped end the Vietnam War. Sad :-(
- Whorebane, on 07/18/2009, -25/+165I guess he couldn't handle the MJ coverage.
- haidalangara, on 07/18/2009, -9/+92I was in his grandson's elementary class back in the 90's, and our school had a grandparents visiting day. well, my mom was "class mom" so she arranged it so my grandmother could sit next to the legend that is walter cronkite. she was floored to meet such an icon for her generation...she could hardly sit still! :-) RIP Walter.
- UK31337, on 07/18/2009, -1/+73I'm British and even I've heard of this guy. He was the one who announced JFK's death on TV, if I remember rightly.
RIP. - awicks89, on 07/18/2009, -0/+68walter cronkite speechless on the moon landing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwaA-hbvYF8 - schavira, on 07/18/2009, -4/+66The Keyboard Cat meme generally applies to video of people failing to succeed at something. Walter Cronkite was one of the greatest figures in journalism and should not be honored with a phrase generally reserved for failure.
- batguano, on 07/18/2009, -0/+57may you have many diggs
- toggaf, on 07/18/2009, -5/+59What a bad summer to be public figure.
RIP - staffa, on 07/18/2009, -0/+45Ah the good old days, when news was news and entertainment was entertainment.
Now the entertainment is news and the news is entertainment.
Oh well, guess that's what you are a 24 hours a day news rating whore.
R.I.P. - sulthernao, on 07/18/2009, -4/+49I wish he was still alive and broadcasting. We need more reporters like him. RIP Mr. Cronkite.
- ChaosProfessor, on 07/18/2009, -1/+44fail you forgot the HI BILLY MAYS HERE
and you just sucked - ChiffX, on 07/18/2009, -5/+46ASS WHOLE!
- badwithcomputer, on 07/18/2009, -7/+47condolences to his family. RIP.
- yeahaboutthat, on 07/18/2009, -2/+41RIP Walter. I grew-up during the cold war, and I can still recall his voice on the evening news as the cold war unfolded. Echoes of his voice are as clear now as they were for me at age 12, sleeping out under the stars in my grandparents back yard with a few other friends, watching for russian bombers....
- xxwohxx, on 07/18/2009, -2/+40I think it is absolutely essential in a democracy to have competition in the media, a lot of competition, and we seem to be moving away from that. -Walter Cronkite
Wish there were more journalists like him today.
RIP - you will be missed. - YagLana, on 07/18/2009, -9/+43Yeah, he may have covered humans walking on the moon, but MJ created Moon Walking! C'mon now.
- brianbb98, on 07/18/2009, -1/+34the whole thing?
- haidalangara, on 07/18/2009, -19/+50i know his grandson...walter cronkite IV. sad day for the cronkite family, and for the journalism world. RIP Walt.
- kingofinternet, on 07/18/2009, -1/+29walter cronkite shedding a tear reporting jfk's assassination:

5:09 - ChaosProfessor, on 07/18/2009, -0/+27no but it does give him a bacon number of 3
- kingnova, on 07/18/2009, -2/+29He WAS the news to me. He epitomized what we USED to have. Huntley/Brinkley and Cronkite. That was when we actually got the NEWS, not the spin we get from every side.
The last of real media has passed. - RobertWright, on 08/13/2009, -4/+27R.I.P. Walter, Thanks for the memories
- theshizzler, on 07/18/2009, -1/+22its a trap!
no, but seriously... its a trap. - darkciti2, on 07/18/2009, -3/+24At least he lived a full life, having died at 92.
RIP Mr. Cronkite.
Your voice will always be one of the most memorable:
"Since the dawn of time, mankind..."
@Disney EPCOT Center, Spaceship Earth; Kennedy Space Center narrations, etc. - AndrewDB, on 07/18/2009, -4/+25Good Night and Good Luck Mr Conkite. May you rest in peace. :(
- fairandtrue, on 07/18/2009, -2/+22they don't make them like Walter anymore, he was a great man i am thankful i was able to grow up watching him nightly. RIP he will be missed.
- thePTS, on 07/18/2009, -2/+22If I have understood the laws of economics correctly, what you are suggesting would cause inflation.
Way to be off topic anyway. - babbitblob, on 07/18/2009, -1/+21Additionally: Really? You just compared Cronkite to Coulter? And then called him an author? God I hate you meme-spouting twits.
- HouseofEl, on 07/18/2009, -0/+20The man was a class act. RIP
- dafragsta, on 07/18/2009, -1/+20He's survived by the 24 hour news cycle and... Hey! Look over there! Paris Hilton is doing something outrageous!
- stooge4ever, on 07/18/2009, -1/+19@dnz64 you can't POSSIBLY believe that the vietnam war would be reported nearly as well by bill o'reilly as walter cronkite. seriously dude. think about that.
- haidalangara, on 07/18/2009, -3/+20thanks deuchebag
- TallestSkil, on 07/18/2009, -0/+17I accidentally the whole... you get it.
- KSUdesigner, on 07/18/2009, -1/+18You can never raise every person above the poverty line. If you try, a new poverty line is established. There will always be poor people, everything is relative. If everybody has more money, the price of everything goes up.
- ryanand80, on 07/18/2009, -4/+21And that's the way the cookie crumbles...
- darkciti2, on 07/18/2009, -1/+18It happens year round, dude. It's called life and it doesn't discriminate.
- R0am3r, on 07/18/2009, -0/+15"is". A classic quote from a great man.
- dafragsta, on 07/18/2009, -1/+16Saying it twice doesn't make it any more true. No, it couldn't, ***** ignoramus.
- TheBigBad, on 07/18/2009, -0/+15and in the family of respected journalists, he leaves no remaining survivors.
- skews13, on 07/18/2009, -13/+27Walter Cronkite, the epitome of a newsman. What do we have now? Fox News. I'm sorry you had to see journalism sink to that level at the end of your life. R.I.P. Walter.
- noupsell, on 07/18/2009, -3/+17RIP Walter... you had an illustrious career
- Marerob, on 07/18/2009, -1/+15May you rest in peace our dear Walter know we are grateful for all you have done these many years you will be missed!!!
- darkciti2, on 07/18/2009, -0/+14I think there are just more famous people now than there were a few decades ago. The entertainment industry was pretty small 40 years ago (considering that the average person dies in their mid seventies, and if they were in their 30's at the height of their career).
I expect this to be a continuous trend from here forward. Mass media wasn't nearly as comprehensive and prevalent as it has been for the few decades. - drmangrum, on 07/18/2009, -0/+14Not just an icon, he was one of the last true journalists. In a world full of political talking heads, he was one of the few whose integrity was never called into question.
- analogkid01, on 07/18/2009, -3/+17One of the last of that great endangered species, the Investigative Journalist...
