Wal-Mart has four billion shares outstanding. Thus, the $470,000 they recouped has returned approximately .00012 dollars per share, or ~1% of one penny per share.

To all who own WMT stock, think about this: The company you have a personal investment in just wreaked havoc in the life of a brain-damaged former employee whose child was killed in Iraq because returning that 1% of one penny to the shareholders is way more important than deviating from stated policy and helping someone in need. How do you feel about this? ***** do something about it and let those ***** in Bentonville know, please.

I ***** hate Walmart and I avoid the place at all costs. Just walking into that place makes me want to kill myself with it's tomb like atmosphere hanging low like some sort of smog cloud that makes people give up on life. That alone is enough to avoid the place, not to mention their selfishness and greed knows no boundaries. I don't see how anyone could be ok with that place unless of course they are a ***** idiot!!!

Ugh. This is standard operating procedure now. I was injured and my health insurance got to reclaim the money they paid (I didn't get any of my premiums back though). Walmart should be ashamed. Stockholders need to demand that they not only let the woman KEEP the money - they need to offer more for what they are doing to this family.

Corporate America and the American Government doing what it does best, take away money from the poor and give it to the rich. Wake up America, bring up your wages and don't let corporations and government decide what you deserve in life. If you want to be treated in a dignified and humanly way, stop supporting them and seek real change.

Wow. I was an outside vendor who had to work inside walmarts for several years, several of their policies disgusted me. But this is unimaginable. Are Americans really dumb enough to continue to spend money at a place like this?

The insurance company never fronted up and took any risk in the law suit with fees of any kind, yet there allowed to recoup on the back end.

Many insurance plans have this same clause.. Keeps insurance premiums from being EVEN HIGHER. SHE GOT A MILLION DOLLARS. I know that's not enough, but the 400,000 that Wal_Mart wants back keeps other low income Wal_Mart workers from paying even more.

You know I had stayed out of the whole 'Walmart is Evil' trend until now. That is an evil, evil insurance policy. And I don't care that it's 'legal' for Walmart to do this. Laws are *supposed* to be made to ensure the common good. Clearly in this case, awarding Walmart anything is against the spirit of the law. Thus, Supreme Court, get off your bums, get G.W.Bush's ***** out of your mouths and do your duty as justices! (Forgive the vulgarity).

Basically, every medical insurance company does whatever it can to make sure that it doesn't pay for the treatment people need, even if it is necessary treatment. This is why I'm a fan of some version of socialized health care (which isn't perfect either, but it's far less likely to result in situations like this one).

I do not participate in forwarding but I believe that in cases like this, we should forward as much as possible.

This woman was brain damaged in an accident with a truck. The trucking company paid this woman $1 million dollars. After taxes and attorney fee, that left the family with under $500,000 to care for this woman. Wal-mart sued the family and won the money because she was a member of their heath care system. Now the family is penniless and the husband has had to divorce his wife so that she could get more money from Medicaid. The husband now has to choose whether to send his son to college or take his college money to help pay for his mom's care.
Wal-Mart profits were $90 BILLION dollars last year. Let the woman and her husband keep that money. Wal-mart says that they have every right to the money, and if they don't take this woman's money, that it would not be fair to other members of the health plan!

Please share this story. I trying to get people stop shopping their but if enough people send a message to Wal-mart and other companies that just because you are a corporation does not give you the right to destroy people's lives. If this story gets enough attention and Wal-mart is hit in it's wallet maybe they will stop treating it's employee's like this.
