- inactive, on 07/09/2008, -28/+691It's almost as if there is some kind of "brigade" with god-like "bury" powers that are keeping such articles off the front page.
- sexualaj, on 07/09/2008, -34/+530Dear Mr Rose,
Please explain.
Sincerely,
The Diggers - Daniel591992, on 07/09/2008, -12/+350Digg is so broken it's not even funny. The front page is being gamed by top-users and users with hundreds of friends. The shout system has to be removed and the friend system has to be addressed. Maybe force users to know something about their friend before they add them? It won't make the power users happy, but it will help fix the issue.
Any staff member reading this????? - Pizzini3000, on 07/09/2008, -25/+259Perhaps we can at least get this to the front. Dugg for great Justice!
- harikaried, on 07/09/2008, -20/+231http://digg.com/political_opinion/The_Constitution ... is at 1000+ diggs and not promoted yet.
- Hangly, on 07/09/2008, -21/+232Digg seems to be attempting to change itself from a primarily tech/politics site into a more mainstream general interest site.
Part of that means making sure a lot of stupid crap no one here cares about (zenhabits, sports, et al) makes the front page, and part of it means suppressing threads that are... controversial.
That's my working theory anyway. It could be something more sinister, but how would you ever know? - Hangly, on 07/09/2008, -9/+164Dear sexualaj,
Muahahahahahahahahahaha.
Sincerely,
The Office of Strategic Influence - mikesbaker, on 07/09/2008, -3/+157I agree with Daniel - shouts are killing digg. I have few friends on digg with over 200 friends. When I see a friend request from someone from 08 with around 900 friends added I just keep moving.
- terrya64, on 07/09/2008, -4/+142Why have a friends ability at all, this isn't Myspace.
- soccernamlak, on 07/09/2008, -5/+139The irony would be if this story makes the front page, but the other one doesn't.
- blackolive, on 07/09/2008, -2/+123The bury crowd is *nothing* like digg's normal users - they're abusers who realized upcomming buries count the most.
As for the algorithm, it's just as corrupt - top users have more "diversity" than normal users & stupid news has more "diversity" than important news.
*Only* digg's frontpage users can accurately censor - every alternative will be gamed.
Digg could weaken upcoming buries, strengthen frontpage buries, & then let *far* more stories get promoted to the frontpage. (and then buried )frontpage. - inactive, on 07/09/2008, -13/+100send an email to feedback too...this is not right...
- Spudster, on 07/09/2008, -2/+65What's funny about Reddit is that my friend, not a power user one bit, has actually managed to have two submissions make frontpage. The guy doesn't game the system at all and got those two on frontpage solely from the ideal democratic model that Digg was supposed to represent.
Digg is so gamed now it's not even funny. There are a few simple solutions: Limit the number of submissions per day and change the algorithym so that Diggers who all Digg the same content repeatedly have the weight of their votes count less in determining frontpage status. - nelsonjs, on 07/09/2008, -11/+69Here is the original link Digg prevented from getting to the front page. Currently over 1,100 Diggs in less than 24 hours.

http://digg.com/political_opinion/The_Constitution ... - Rotzooi, on 07/09/2008, -9/+601130th digg an still nothing. Huh?
- Surferess, on 07/09/2008, -3/+51The front page stories have to clear a bar. However, none of us know where the bar is, and digg changes the bar daily, just for fun.
- benologist, on 07/09/2008, -2/+48They need to turn shouts off but then that's been true since they came up with the stupidest messaging system on the internet. I guess all the extra ad impressions - 3 per page x however many people that user swaps diggs with - make it worth keeping.
The tards have taken it a step further too. Instead of just swapping diggs now they swap shouts too. Retard1 shouts his friends about Retard2's story and vice versa, which gives them the "diversity" they need to hit the front page.
Meanwhile legitimate users are all but irrelevant, and the people digging 1000+ stories a day are the ones most likely to overlap with your own digging and affect your recommendations. - Hangly, on 07/09/2008, -24/+66Hm....
The Information Operations Task Force (IOTF) is described as a unit -- "deeper in the Pentagon's bureaucracy" -- which assumed much of the operations of the Office of Strategic Influence after it was shut down in February 2002. According to "Pentagon documents, the Rendon Group played a major role in the IOTF. The company was charged with creating an 'Information War Room' to monitor worldwide news reports at lightning speed and respond almost instantly with counterpropaganda," James Bamford reported November 17, 2005, in Rolling Stone magazine.
[...]
"Rendon was also charged with engaging in 'military deception' online -- an activity once assigned to the OSI. The company was contracted to monitor Internet chat rooms in both English and Arabic -- and 'participate in these chat rooms when/if tasked.' Rendon would also create a Web site 'with regular news summaries and feature articles. Targeted at the global public, in English and at least four (4) additional languages, this activity also will include an extensive e-mail push operation.' These techniques are commonly used to plant a variety of propaganda, including false information," Bamford wrote.

http://www.rendon.com/ - kalagmail, on 07/09/2008, -4/+42This why many are moving to reddit.
- verivalta, on 07/09/2008, -0/+36That would be an evil laugh Sexualaj, not a laugh at your name.
- Hortnon, on 07/09/2008, -11/+41Clearly, that's the most reasonable explanation.
- inactive, on 07/09/2008, -3/+33I used to love this site. Now it's like a skanky ex-girlfriend I just can't figure out how to break up with.
- wwwonka, on 07/09/2008, -5/+34this has been MASSIVELY bothering me about Digg lately as well.
It has become a trivial/interest/geek news zone on the front page. At least Slashdot claims it is what it is. Digg on the other hand is becoming a teen oriented "check out my skateboard faceplant on You Tube" link site.
Kevin Rose put down your red bull vodka, leave that trendy Mission bar, and get off your script kiddie about to be a millionaire ass and get involved - jspegele, on 07/09/2008, -8/+35It's easy to explain... a lot of people buried this story which has kept it off of the front page. Diggers scream for "true democracy" on the site, yet at the same time, complain that stories can be buried. Guess what, each person has just as much right to vote against a story as they do to vote for a story.
- djepik, on 07/09/2008, -3/+30Enough.
This is a call to arms.
Let's blow this ***** out of the water 09-f9-11-02-9d-74-e3-5b-d8-41-56-c5-63-56-88-c0 style. - Hortnon, on 07/09/2008, -7/+34The bar changes on a per-story basis, depending on who Diggs it, how fast Diggs are recieved, who submits the story, and probably some other factors. The process is kept secret to prevent widespread cheating.
- inactive, on 07/09/2008, -53/+80This is mostly because Ronbots and Troofers generally have multiple "sock puppet" accounts that weigh low in the algorithm and because many sane digg users bury their idiotic submissions, thus making the requirement for hitting the front page higher.
Just the other day an Infowars.net submission got over 1,000 diggs. Just because something doesn't hit the front page doesn't mean the the troofers aren't swarming to it with their sock puppets. - DooM, on 07/09/2008, -4/+31Removing shout is probably a good idea but it won't stop the gaming if people are determined. I mean MrBabyMan has a blog, afterall.. and people have email addresses.. all of which can be used to direct zombie diggers. If they really want to game the system they will.
- Monkeydew06, on 07/09/2008, -2/+29This story has 313... and is frontpage, "Constitution Dies" 1334! and is still in incoming!
- Arcueid01, on 07/09/2008, -7/+33Well the reason this was up here was because the vote on the FISA amendment is coming today! You can rest assured that we are going to get boned by our supposed representatives. They are going to pass this garbage legislation that is completely un-needed. They just want to cover up their own lawbreaking. The FISA court has approved 20,000+ warrants and only denied about half a dozen. Our government, which doesn't represent us merely wants to be able to bypass the judicial branch and circumvent not only the 4th Amendment but also our system of checks and balances.
Not to mention the sheep in this country will let it happen because they are too ***** stupid to research for themselves. - adn6691, on 07/09/2008, -2/+27it did
- blackolive, on 07/09/2008, -2/+27The "bar" is broken. Frankly it appears to promote stories at random - "who can get the most noob votes?"
- Hortnon, on 07/09/2008, -9/+29Well it's a Super Bury™, so...
All of them. - mikesbaker, on 07/09/2008, -15/+34so how many ronbot diggs do you think I canceled out with my bury?
- inactive, on 07/09/2008, -16/+35@KennMac
Were you aware that Alex Jones has singled out specific Digg users on his radio program to be attacked and buried by his listeners? Were you aware that truthers meet on prisonplanet and other forums to discuss ways to game Digg and solicit support for their postings? Maybe it's time for you to move to a forum where ignorance isn't such a drawback. Try prisonplanet. There are lots of ignorant people there. - smoothiefan, on 07/09/2008, -4/+22feedback@digg.com
or
http://digg.com/bugreport - trying2hide, on 07/09/2008, -2/+20I think that Digg has lost it's original intention
- StingingNettle, on 07/09/2008, -3/+21What about the "something big is happening" article that had over a thousand digs in less than 24 hours and didn't make it to the front. I don't care who you are, how do you explain that legitimately?
- nelsonjs, on 07/09/2008, -12/+30An Open Letter to Kevin Rose about this:
http://digg.com/people/An_Open_Letter_to_Kevin_Ros ... - mikesbaker, on 07/09/2008, -5/+22I had screens from prison planet forums that were calling for the gaming of digg and burying of stories and users that were againt PP Infowars and Alex Jones but sadly I lost them in a format. Hell Herkimer was PP #1 troll and probably still is. So yes there are actually people who have nothing better to do than follow the bury brigade around the tubes.
- grepmonkey451, on 07/09/2008, -4/+21Kevin Rose:
Sorry folks, that was a little (censorship) glitch in our algorithm - Navicerts, on 07/09/2008, -1/+18done!
- kinggimped, on 07/09/2008, -0/+17I agree with all of the above. Digg has been pretty ***** for a while now. That's not to say it doesn't still provide me with some good content now and again, but I can generally pretty much guarantee that at least 7 of the top 10 will be old or pure garbage.
As usual, it's the minority ruining it for the rest of us. - inactive, on 07/09/2008, -3/+19Which is why a "Democracy" never works because that means 51% can keep 49% of the people from seeing the truth out in the open or 51% can infringe on 49% of people's rights.
A democracy is crap, a republic, (you remember in the pledge of allegiance where it says "and to the republic, for which it stands...") is true freedom, too bad digg is going from democracy to fascism in a heartbeat. - Hortnon, on 07/09/2008, -12/+28If that were true, then ThinkProgress, HuffPo, etc wouldn't be making the front page.
