The recent stories manufactured or emphasized by the government and prominently covered in the media;
Regarding cyber attacks, are to gain support for the government controlling and limiting the freedom of the Internet.
Regarding guns and "assault weapons" are to gain support for the government further infringing upon the right to bear arms.
Regarding financial problems, are to gain support for the government regulating and controlling the free market.
Regarding Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, and North Korea, are to gain support for the government further invading these countries.
"The Central Intelligence Agency owns everyone of any significance in the major media."
-- William Colby, former Director of CIA - fontez1, on 04/08/2009, -18/+82Man this ***** would have never happened if Batman were elected president instead of that dumbass Obama.
- brad3378, on 04/08/2009, -6/+48Looks like a great excuse to push for the new "Smart Grid" that General Electric keeps promoting in its commercials.
......Makes me wonder if there's people behind the scenes pushing a hidden agenda - maggiedago, on 04/08/2009, -5/+42How odd that just last week Democrats introduced a proposal that would require all critical infrastructure companies to meet new cybersecurity standards and grant the president emergency powers over control of the grid systems and other infrastructure.
Cue the Twilight Zone music - Christianptriot, on 04/08/2009, -2/+32If you are not connected to this worldwide web - if your vital infrastructure is not accessible from outside the controls and elements of the grid, no one can cyber-attack it.
How tough is that?
We thought we were so smart to computerize everything sot hat one fat, lazy person in Kansas or wherever, can click a few keys on a terminal and re-route or switch electrical power across the country. Problem is, so can some smart teenage hacker in China.
We'll end up going back to the days when people actually went to a power station and threw big breaker switches - THEN we'll be safe from cyber attackers. - caif, on 04/08/2009, -1/+31After being actually licensed to operate two commercial nuclear power plants (not a trivial achievement), I assure you that no Cyber Attacker can "Take Control of Nuclear Power Plants!" Sorry, can't happen.
Doesn't work that way, because our plants are so old that there are no controllers that can be influenced by cyber attackers.
Additionally, most of the grid control is done by Micro-wave signals, with a back-up signal by wire. There is not much internet interface at all.
This article is Anti-Internet Hype, be very aware of this attack on our internet by our own government-haha. - inactive, on 04/08/2009, -5/+32Gosh, you make it sound like the government wants to control, suppress, limit, restrict, ban, and manipulate everything. Thats not possible because the government tells us we have everything to fear except the government and that only the government can save us. Surely the government wouldnt lie to us right?
Government good, freedom bad. Government good, freedom bad. Government good, freedom bad.
Freedom scares me. Its too hard. The government will do a better job managing my life than I will.
These are the slogans we chanted at the government run "School of Freedom and Independent Thinking." - cdcdark, on 04/08/2009, -1/+20This is ridiculous...its not like nuclear power plants are dialing up AOL with unpatched versions of Windows XP. I'm sure no real power grid has a web interface with a big off button. These are things that only happen in movies, not the real world. This all seems like a scare tactic to me.
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -4/+21another excuse to shut down the internets.....keep spreading the fear.!
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -2/+19***** propaganda,written to fearmonger.
BURIED. - roho76, on 04/08/2009, -1/+16All the more reason why we need independent (by that I mean I supply my own power on my own property) renewable energy. Why do we need to spend massive amounts of money on an over bloated poorly maintained electrical grid?
- caif, on 04/08/2009, -1/+15I agree with you. How come everything Dumb, has to have "Smart" put in front of it, i.e., Smart Car (stupid looking thing), Smart Cards (Big Brother Real ID), Smart Water (filled with aspartame), etc.
- richmomz, on 04/08/2009, -0/+14"If you are not connected to this worldwide web - if your vital infrastructure is not accessible from outside the controls and elements of the grid, no one can cyber-attack it."
+1 If the banking industry can operate on an independent network without major problems (as they have for decades now) there's no reason why other important civic functions can't as well. - mhanley, on 04/08/2009, -0/+14Didn't I see this on 24?
- caif, on 04/08/2009, -2/+15More Proof that "Nuclear Power Plants" are immune to these so-called cyber attackers:
Within the article, there is a downloadable .pdf of the letter from the North American (warning bells should be going off at this name) Electric Reliability Corporation (corporation!!! not government).
Within the downloadable .pdf, there is a hot-link that opens up the Basis for this report, directly from NERC's website. http://www.nerc.com/files/CIP-002-1.pdf
Section 4.2 specifically EXEMPTS those facilities regulated by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commision (All Nuclear Power Plants). Sorry bub, you have been Busted!!! We can read! We Know what you are doing. STOP IT NOW!! Leave the Internet Alone, it is not the enemy.
Was the HUGE Power Outage of April 2007, a Test by FEMA? - oxymoron69, on 04/08/2009, -1/+14Well then if you're a qualified voice and have some useful information on this matter.... maybe you should spread it.
I bet there's many folks in the various branches of the US .gov that have no clue how this all works and somehow assume that all of north americas infrastructure could be taken control of at any time by a hostile organization.
Maybe if they knew most critical systems were already safe........... wait, nevermind, logic doesn't enter into a politicians mind, they just care about who gives them the most cash and how often. - richmomz, on 04/08/2009, -1/+14There's no reason why ANY of that ***** couldn't be on a separate network isolated from the internet. My theory - they're setting us up for a false flag cyber attack to push through restrictions on internet use - get ready.
- sheeplescareme, on 04/08/2009, -1/+12there's nothing fear-mongering about this. the potus should be able to turn the internets and grid structures on and off at will. during the christmas holiday, he can set it all to lights and music for optimum entertainment value.
- richmomz, on 04/08/2009, -1/+12There is a hidden agenda, and it is to create a new national security risk by hooking up all of our important civic functions to the web. When something bad inevitably happens, the proposed solution (and the real objective of all this) will be to push through legislation that will allow the government to police the internet and restrict it's use.
"The Internet should never have been invented." J. Rockefeller, in comments before Congress where he stated that the free and open environment of the Internet is as big a national security threat as any nuclear or biological weapon... - mytruckhasdents, on 04/08/2009, -0/+11...Adam West has done an outstanding job at being governor of Quahog...I would have voted for him as president as well...
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -1/+11Isn't it just a BIT EERIE that the same day conficker gets an update is the same day The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 introduced in the Senate by U.S. Senators John D. Rockefeller (D-WVA) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME).? And now suddenly there are Electricity Grid Ninjas? FFS
If DNS servers become overwhelmed... then the Domain Name Service is not going to work. So would you have to navigate by IP address alone? Or would the internet be royally *****?
Jay Rockefeller said after all that the "Internet should not exist".
the same family name that says
“The way to make money is to buy when blood is running in the streets.”
"We are grateful to the Washington Post, The New York Times, Time
Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended
our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost
forty years."
"It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world
if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years.
But, the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a
world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite
and world bankers is surely preferable to the national
auto-determination practiced in past centuries."
-David Rockefeller
“Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as ‘internationalists’ and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure - one world, if you will. If that is the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.” -- David Rockefeller (Found on page 405 of his memoirs)
Food for thought/ Best April Fool's joke evar. - 10ofDiamonds, on 04/08/2009, -0/+10Sounds like alot of far fetched fear mongering to me. I dont doubt that there have been foreign spies reconoitering our infrastructure; but I am sure their impact and potential are being greatly exaggerated.
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+10No, there is no hidden agenda. Your government is in control everything is fine. Go back to sleep! Nothing to see here.
It really isn't hidden at all. - beclee, on 04/08/2009, -1/+10why would it be under control? the government has known about it for 6 years now
- elshanero, on 04/08/2009, -1/+10The sad part is that this transparent attempt to push their agenda will work. The sheeple are easily herded.
- sheeplescareme, on 04/08/2009, -3/+12class of '88 here - don't worry - have a soma holiday! - big brother has it all under control.
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -21/+30I'm sure Obama will tattle to the UN about it and that's about all.
- richmomz, on 04/08/2009, -0/+9Thanks, now I'm depressed and need another shot of Victory Gin...
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+8It isn't hidden, though. We wouldn't be able to connect any dots if it were actually hidden. I have been pointing out the extremely unusual coincidence that the conficker scare on April 1st happens to be the same day The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 was introduced in the Senate by U.S. Senators John D. Rockefeller (D-WVA) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME). Now suddenly there are Energy Grid Ninjas everywhere? So to really screw the internet you would have to hit the power grid AND the DNS servers? Ruthless.
Nothing is ever a coincidence with the Rockefellers. - goodinohio, on 04/08/2009, -3/+10Join us, for the greater good.
Terrorists!
Join us, for the greater good.
Terrorists! - caif, on 04/08/2009, -0/+7Mind you that there are REAL problems with electrical grid instability, such as Solar Magnetic Disturbances (SMD's). These blasts of charged solar ejecta have caused blackouts, and we in the control rooms are warned of their approach so that we could reduce power and minimize the hard landing to the grid.
In fact, the grid is more likely susceptible to Electro Magnetic fields, than anything the Internet can wield at it.
Preserve Free Speech, Preserve the Internet! - oxymoron69, on 04/08/2009, -0/+6You're damn right, self-sustainability is going to be very important in the near future.
Within the next 10 years I plan to leave the city behind for good, move back out to the home I grew up in out in the middle of nowhere setup a wind turbine or two & some solar panels.
When the ***** goes down in the USA, I don't want to be reliant on any systems that're directly connected to them.
The big east coast blackout a few years back was caused by americans.... thankfully it wasn't winter here, but if it was, it would have caused more lives to be lost.
Next time a yank drops the ball, I want to be thoroughly insulated from his idiotic mistake. - inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+6Almost all headline articles on mainstream news sites are rehashes of editorials which are written by the CIA. Its not a conspiracy.
You can read about how it works in the book "Economic Democracy" by JW Smith or read the excerpted section "They who write history control History" here:

Warning: Reading this is like taking the Red Pill, there is no going back. - LenBaird, on 04/08/2009, -0/+6The timing tells me that this is exactly what it is about. And as icing on the cake, they say it is China and Russia, who are talking about a new gold backed currency.
- ItStillMoves, on 04/08/2009, -0/+6Wooptidoo, more scaremongering to control the internet! Oh by the way, after I'm finished downloading the internet I will be 'penetrating' the pentagon on my xbox while crashing NORAD via my PSP.
- doublsh0t, on 04/08/2009, -0/+6(mayor)
- jsffive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+5It's as good a reason as I can think of for us actually getting energy independent, instead of depending on a centralized power grid. Solar power is one possible solution. But don't mention this to the power companies. I'm sure they don't want to hear about it.
It mentions that the Russians and Chinese have tried to infiltrate our grid... I wonder if WE'VE ever tried to do the same? - bardamu, on 04/08/2009, -6/+11Jackass. Those intrusions were probably put in place during the Bush Years! It will take a lot of time for Obama to fix all of that administrations screw ups.
- tomlonar, on 04/08/2009, -1/+6Buried. It is sad that most of the readers on world wide web will take this article seriously. Probably the story makers do see how ridiculous it sounds, but they know these stuff are efficient in seeding fear.
- ScienceDoc, on 04/08/2009, -0/+5This latest fear mongering BS brought to you by GE.
- acaloiar, on 04/08/2009, -1/+6The language used in this article is funny at best. "The Chinese", "The Russians"; as if every human from China or Russia is a spokesman or representative for their country. This sort of sensationalizing language is what leads to vast misperceptions of other cultures in our ethnocentric realities.
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -1/+6I know, lets connect our important electrical grid infrastructure up to the internet! who thought that one up?
by the way WSJ owned by rupert no? fearmongering. - maggiedago, on 04/08/2009, -3/+8What did the telepromter know and when did he know it
- andrewtheart, on 04/08/2009, -1/+5While he does win, you lose for pointing it out.
- Dumbledorito, on 04/08/2009, -2/+6It didn't take long for the Wall Street Journal to turn into the Daily Mail and Weekly World News all wrapped up into one, did it? Nice job, there, Mr. Murdoch.
- TheSkunkMonkey, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3"I know, lets connect our important electrical grid infrastructure up to the internet! who thought that one up?"
No one. Our electrical grid is NOT connected to the internet. It's a blatant lie that the average American will believe because they don't know any better. - JoeyNine, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3Isn't this the plot of Live Free or Die Hard?
- blacklilyninja, on 04/08/2009, -1/+4wow... not one die hard/john mcclane/the warlock joke.
- qwikk, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3map out infrastructure? seriously? sorry, this screams bogus propaganda.
- TheSkunkMonkey, on 04/08/2009, -2/+5Yay! More government propaganda.
